Maoist Leader Who Planted Bombs Inside Bodies Of Policemen Among 4 Arrested
Last Updated: Jharkhand ATS and Ranchi Police arrested four Naxal operatives, including CPI (Maoist) sub-zonal commander Yogendra Ganjhu, who was extorting businesses and targeting CCL employees In a joint crackdown, the Jharkhand Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Ranchi Police have arrested four Naxal operatives, including Yogendra Ganjhu, a sub-zonal commander of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) in the Koyal-Shankh Zone. The arrests were made from the Khalari police station area on the outskirts of Ranchi. Ganjhu, a repeat offender, had earlier served time for one of the most disturbing attacks in Jharkhand's Maoist history by planting IEDs inside the bodies of slain policemen in Latehar's Garu region. Released from jail recently, police say he was once again attempting to revive operations by extorting local businesses and targeting employees of Central Coalfields Limited (CCL). The action came after a CCL employee filed a complaint about a Rs 1 crore levy demand. The caller, identifying himself as 'Manoj ji," threatened to kill the employee if the money wasn't paid. The Maoist group had also reportedly issued similar threats to local traders, triggering concerns about a fresh wave of extortion and intimidation in Ranchi's coal belt. Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha confirmed that the operation was based on intelligence shared by ATS. Along with Yogendra Ganjhu, the police arrested Mukesh Ganjhu, Manu Ganjhu, and Rajkumar Nahak. A SIM card used for issuing the threats was allegedly bought for Rs 10,000, hinting at a calculated effort to remain off police radar. 'After his release, Yogendra was trying to regroup and collect funds for the Maoist outfit," SSP Sinha said, adding that the police and ATS are closely tracking the movement of other suspected operatives. Raids are ongoing to locate more members believed to be part of this network. While the arrests have disrupted immediate threats, authorities are urging continued vigilance. The area remains sensitive, and police believe more Maoist operatives could be trying to re-establish their presence in and around Ranchi. view comments First Published: July 15, 2025, 12:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Maoist commander arrested, cache of arms recovered in Jharkhand's Chatra
Chatra (Jharkhand): The Jharkhand Police have arrested a senior Maoist leader and recovered a huge cache of ammunition from a forest in Chatra district, officials said. Arjun Ganjhu, a top commander of the banned Maoist outfit Tritiya Sammelan Prastuti Committee (TSPC), was apprehended during a raid in Tikda village under the Lawalong police station area. Acting on a tip-off about his movement, a special team led by Simaria SDPO Shubham Khandelwal conducted the operation and nabbed the militant. Chatra Superintendent of Police Sumit Agrawal informed during a press conference on Tuesday that a country-made pistol was recovered from Ganjhu at the time of his arrest. Following interrogation, he revealed the location of a hidden arms cache in a nearby forest. A search led to the recovery of 723 live cartridges concealed underground in a box. The cache included 477 rounds of INSAS rifle ammunition and 246 rounds of .303 rifle cartridges -- indicating preparations for potential attacks or supply to other cadres in the region. SP Agrawal said the recovery dealt a blow to the operational capabilities of the TSPC in the area. Ganjhu is a repeat offender and had previously been jailed for involvement in Maoist-related activities. In a separate operation, Lohardaga Police arrested another absconding Maoist, Lalind Mahato alias Rajkumar Yadav, who had been evading capture for several years. Lalind, a resident of Semardih village in Kisko police station limits, has multiple cases lodged against him in Lohardaga, Latehar, and other districts of Jharkhand. Lohardaga SP Sadique Anwar Rizvi said that Lalind was associated with the squad of Ravindra Ganjhu, a zonal commander of the CPI (Maoist), who carries a bounty of Rs 15 lakh on his head. Police believe that Lalind's arrest could yield crucial intelligence about Maoist activities and logistics in the region. After his court appearance, preparations are being made to send him to judicial custody.

Two top Maoist leaders killed in J'khand action
Jharkhand: Two senior leaders of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a splinter Maoist outfit, were killed in a gunfight on Saturday during an anti-Naxal operation in the forests of Latehar district. One of the slain militants, Pappu Lohra, was the supremo of the JJMP and carried a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head. His associate, identified as Prabhat Ganjhu, had a reward of Rs 5 lakh. The gun battle took place under the jurisdiction of the Latehar Police Station and was the result of a joint operation by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jharkhand Police, launched on the basis of intelligence input regarding the presence of Lohra and his group in the area. According to Palamu DIG YS Ramesh, the Maoists opened fire on the approaching security personnel, prompting a retaliatory response. Both Lohra and Ganjhu were killed in the ensuing exchange of fire. Latehar Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav led the operation, which is reportedly still ongoing. In addition to the two fatalities, another JJMP member was injured and subsequently arrested. Security forces also recovered an INSAS rifle from the site. The deaths of Lohra and Ganjhu mark a significant blow to the JJMP's activities in the region, further weakening the influence of the renegade Maoist faction in Jharkhand.

Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) chief Lohra, who was carrying a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head, and Prabhat Ganjhu, the sub-zonal commander of the organisation who carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh, were killed during the operation, police said. The joint operation was carried out by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand Police in Ichabar forest area under Latehar police station limits, a senior officer said. 'Two Maoists were killed in a gunfight with security forces. Police have recovered their bodies," Palamu DIG YS Ramesh told PTI. Police confirmed that the bodies of Lohra and Ganjhu were recovered from the encounter site. Ashish Kumar, another wanted member of the group who was injured during the operation, has been arrested. An INSAS rifle was recovered during the subsequent search, Ramesh said. Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Lohra and his associates in the forest, a team of security personnel, led by Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav, launched a search operation, officials said. 'As soon as the Maoists spotted the security personnel, they opened fire. The team retaliated," a police officer involved in the operation said. Lohra was wanted in 98 cases, including murder, extortion, and arson, across several districts such as Lohardaga, Gumla, Chatra, Palamu, and Latehar. Ganjhu was wanted in 15 cases, according to Ramesh. Both were allegedly involved in the killing of Deputy Commandant of Jharkhand Jaguar, Rajesh Kumar, during an operation in September 2021. Calling the development a 'major success" for law enforcement, Palamu IG Sunil Bhaskar urged remaining Maoists to surrender, taking advantage of the state government's surrender policy.
