Two Maoists, including JJMP supremo Pappu Lohra were killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jharkhand's Latehar district on Saturday morning, police said.

Awadh Singh, the injured policeman, was airlifted to Ranchi for better medical care, officials added.
Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) chief Lohra, who was carrying a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head, and Prabhat Ganjhu, the sub-zonal commander of the organisation who carried a reward of Rs 5 lakh, were killed during the operation, police said.
The joint operation was carried out by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Jharkhand Police in Ichabar forest area under Latehar police station limits, a senior officer said.
'Two Maoists were killed in a gunfight with security forces. Police have recovered their bodies," Palamu DIG YS Ramesh told PTI.
Police confirmed that the bodies of Lohra and Ganjhu were recovered from the encounter site.
Ashish Kumar, another wanted member of the group who was injured during the operation, has been arrested. An INSAS rifle was recovered during the subsequent search, Ramesh said.
Acting on a tip-off about the presence of Lohra and his associates in the forest, a team of security personnel, led by Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav, launched a search operation, officials said.
'As soon as the Maoists spotted the security personnel, they opened fire. The team retaliated," a police officer involved in the operation said.
Lohra was wanted in 98 cases, including murder, extortion, and arson, across several districts such as Lohardaga, Gumla, Chatra, Palamu, and Latehar.
Ganjhu was wanted in 15 cases, according to Ramesh.
Both were allegedly involved in the killing of Deputy Commandant of Jharkhand Jaguar, Rajesh Kumar, during an operation in September 2021.
Calling the development a 'major success" for law enforcement, Palamu IG Sunil Bhaskar urged remaining Maoists to surrender, taking advantage of the state government's surrender policy.

Gurugram Bar Body Bans Non Lawyers From Wearing White Shirt, Black Trousers
Gurugram: The Gurugram District Bar Association has passed a resolution "banning" non-lawyers from wearing white shirts and black trousers in the court premises. The professional attire is now reserved solely for registered lawyers and authorised law trainees, said a senior members of the bar association while referring to the resolution. According to the resolution, it was often observed non-advocates or unrecognised law trainees wore white shirts and black trousers in the district court premises. The scenario, the resolution said, led to "misidentification" and in some cases even disrupted the dignity and discipline of the court proceedings. The bar association, as a result, "appealed to all concerned" to strictly adhered to the resolution in the interest of maintaining the dignity of the court. "No other person, including clerks, brokers, litigants or the general public, will be allowed to wear advocate's dress i.e. white shirt and black pants in any part of the court premises. The Bar Association will coordinate with the court administration and security staff to ensure the dress code. Violation of this can also attract a fine of Rs 5,000", it read. Advocate Rahul Dhankar, secretary of the Gurugram District Bar Association, said the resolution aims to check the activities of tout-like persons pretending to advocates in the court premises. "These types of people wear clothes like lawyers and fool clients by assuring them of legal services and documentation. Security staff at entry gates have been given special instructions to verify the identity of registered lawyers and trainee advocates through Bar Council-issued identity cards or other valid certificates," he said. Local lawyers welcomed the initiative and said the rule would curb fraud and ensure clients receive secure, reliable legal services. "The Bar Association has passed this resolution with the objective of maintaining the sanctity, identity and professional distinction of the legal fraternity within the court premises. Dress code decorum for advocates is for a reason and anyone trying to misuse this must be punished", said advocate Kulbhushan Bhardwaj, former president of district bar association, Gurugram.

Sonam Raghuvanshi Brought To Shillong, To Be Produced In Court Today
New Delhi: Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the murder of her husband Raja Raghuvanshi, was brought to Shillong overnight. She is in a three-day transit remand with the Meghalaya Police. Here are the top updates on honeymoon murder case: Sonam Raghuvanshi was taken to Bihar's Patna last evening via road from Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur - where she had surrendered before the police. She was then flown from Patna to Kolkata and was put on a flight to Guwahati at 9:20 pm. The murder accused was brought out of the airport by the Meghalaya police through the cargo gate and taken to the Sadar police station in Shillong. The Meghalaya police took Sonam to the Ganesh Das hospital for her medical test and brought her back to the police station, where she spent the night. The other four accused - Raj Kushwaha (Sonam's alleged lover and the mastermind of the murder), Anand Kurmi, Akash Rajput, and Vishal Singh Chauhan - have also been taken to Shillong separately. They will also be kept in jail and produced before the local court. As the Meghalaya Police team was entering the Indore airport with the four accused, a passenger waiting with his luggage slapped one of the killers, apparently expressing his anger over the crime that has shocked the nation. As the accused were wearing masks, it was not known who among the four accused was slapped. Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam got married on May 11. Nine days later, they left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20 - with a one-way ticket in hand. The couple roamed around the breathtaking hills for three days before going "missing". On May 23, Sonam took Raja to a hilly area on the pretext of a photoshoot. The three accused also followed them and initially spoke to Raja in Hindi. Eventually, Sonam pretended to be tired and started walking much behind her husband and the killers. As the five people reached a deserted place, Sonam shouted "kill him" - to the killers, sources said. Sonam's lover Raj was not involved in the actual murder. He did not travel to Meghalaya, but Shillong Police sources suggested he did the planning behind the scenes and was in touch with Sonam. It is alleged that Sonam had promised Rs 20 lakh to the "contract killers" - described as Raj's friends - to kill Raja. Officials said that the Meghalaya Police knew on June 3, a day after they found the body of Raja Raghuvanshi in a gorge, that Sonam was involved in the murder. They then formed a 20-member core team to find the accused in an operation that they codenamed 'Operation Honeymoon'. On the night of June 7, officials said they found Sonam in an unconscious state at a 'dhaba' in Ghazipur. She was taken to the Ghazipur Medical College for treatment, where she surrendered before the police, and was subsequently arrested. Police also arrested the three "contract killers" in overnight raids. The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Indore-based businessman who was found dead during his honeymoon in Meghalaya, has demanded justice after the victim's wife surrendered to killing him. Raja's brother, Sachin, said that Sonam being found alive raises many questions. The Indore-based businessman's sister slammed Sonam, saying she could have "eloped if she liked someone else". "My brother had vowed to be with Sonam Raghuvanshi for seven lives, but she couldn't stay with him for even seven days. What did he do that you killed him," she said. Sources said that Sonam's family knew she did not want to marry Raja. The murder accused's mother was also aware of her relationship with Raj, who was an employee of her family-run business.

JE caught while taking bribe
Bhubaneswar: A Junior Engineer was caught while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a contractor for clearing pending bills in Bargarh district on Tuesday, a Vigilance official said. Junior Engineer Susmita Oram had joined the government service under the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), Bargarh, at Gaisilet block in January 2024. This was her first posting, the officer said. The JE has been apprehended by the Odisha Vigilance official while demanding and taking a bribe of Rs 8,000 from the contractor (complainant) as the last instalment of her overall demand of bribe of Rs 32,000 for measurement and clearing pending bill in connection with the road improvement work under MGNREGA, he said. The estimated cost of the work is Rs 9.50 lakh, out of which, bills worth Rs 3.15 lakh had been paid earlier, he said. The official further said the JE was demanding a bribe of 10 per cent of the paid bill amount to clear pending bills. Out of the total demanded amount Rs 32,000, she had earlier taken Rs 24,000 a few days back and was demanding the remaining amount of Rs 8,000 to clear the rest bill. The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of the JE and seized, he said. Following the trap, simultaneous searches were conducted at two locations linked to the JE. A case has been registered at Sambalpur Vigilance police station under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 and further investigation is in progress, Vigilance sources said.
