Bamboo was taking over my garden & had me fearing for my house – until a cheap buy from The Range got rid of it for good

Find out how to get rid of invasive bamboo GROWING PAINS Bamboo was taking over my garden & had me fearing for my house – until a cheap buy from The Range got rid of it for good Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A FED-UP gardener has revealed how she finally managed to wipe out a monster bamboo infestation using a budget buy from The Range. Posting in the Gardening on a Budget Official Facebook group, one frustrated woman explained how her partner's garden had been completely overrun by bamboo. 2 A gardener turned to Facebook after having their garden overun by bamboo Credit: Facebook/ Gardening on a budget official 2 People recommended The Range's Roundup Tree Stump and Rootkiller Credit: The range She described it as 'solid' ground and saying 'there's so much of it' they didn't know where to start. But thankfully, green-fingered Brits rallied around to offer tried-and-tested advice and one product kept cropping up as the miracle fix. Gardeners recommended the Roundup Tree Stump and Root Killer, which retails at £18.99 from The Range. The powerful weedkiller is specially designed to target tough, woody plants and it seems bamboo doesn't stand a chance. One user swore by the stuff, commenting: 'I used this on mine. It took a few months, but it's gone and never came back.' Another backed it up, adding: 'It's brilliant stuff. The Roundup kills it – best time is when it stops growing in October or November.' The product's official description says it's a 'non-selective, translocated weedkiller' that travels throughout the plant and root system. It tackles everything from tree stumps to nettles, ivy and invasive bamboo. It's absorbed by leaves or freshly cut surfaces and works both above and below ground. Once it hits the soil, microbes break it down, meaning it's safe to replant in treated areas. 6 Reasons Bamboo May Not Be Ideal for Your British Garden And for gardeners dealing with full-blown bamboo battles, this stuff might just be the saviour. One poor user shared: 'I get invaded by my neighbour's bamboo, it's a menace. "My garden is tiered because of sloping, and the roots even disturbed and knocked off the boards on the bottom tier.' She revealed the stubborn plant caused 'numerous shoots coming up on my lawn', adding: 'It took weeks. I still get the odd shoot popping up and as soon as I see it, I'm on it.' Others chimed in with more DIY hacks, including repeatedly pouring boiling water over shoots to kill them off, though most agreed that Roundup offered a long-term fix with minimal fuss. With its ability to take down even notorious intruders like Japanese knotweed, the weedkiller has gained a bit of a cult following among gardeners desperate to reclaim their lawns. So if bamboo is creeping into your space and boiling water just won't cut it, this £18.99 could be the price of peace and quiet in your garden. As one user put it: 'It's the only thing that worked and trust me, I tried everything.' How to prevent bamboo from taking over your garden For those that are still tempted to add bamboo to their garden, there is a way that you can make it more manageable and reduce the risk of it taking over your flowerbeds. Rather than simply planting a smaller patch, green-fingered influencer Dave The Plant Man suggests putting down a plastic root barrier to prevent it from spreading. In a recent Instagram reel, he advised his followers: 'Basically, you dig a trench [and] you put this [the bamboo barrier], leave it sticking out a little bit.' According to the gardening whizz, this will stop any shoots and rhizomes from spreading through the soil. If you already have a bamboo plant in your garden, you can also use the same method by placing the plastic barrier around your existing patch.

Read on for more easy ways to give your garden a makeover HOUSE THAT I turned my ugly outhouse into a stunning feature – folk say it's the best £10 Shein transformation they've seen A SAVVY woman has shared how she transformed her ugly outhouse on a budget. Tracy Wright, from the UK, took to social media to show off the simple garden transformation that left people floored. Advertisement 2 Tracy Wright was sick of looking at her ugly outhouse Credit: Facebook/gardeningonabudgetofficial 2 She gave it a quick makeover with a Shein buy Credit: Facebook/gardeningonabudgetofficial In the post, she shared a picture of her 'ugly' cold house in the garden, which was made of bricks and featured a grey and black door. But she was able to give it a new lease of life and brighten up the old building with two cheap buys. She used a shower curtain which depicted the image of brick walls with lots of ivy falling down. To add to the effect (and because the curtain was a little too short) Tracy added some faux ivy to the top of the outhouse which blended in perfectly with the curtain. Advertisement She wrote: "Thought I'd jump on the bandwagon with the shower curtain idea. "Turned my ugly-looking old coal house into something a little different." She revealed that she picked up the shower curtain for just £5 from Shein. People were left in awe over just how good it looked, with many saying it was the best use of a shower curtain to decorate they had seen to date. Advertisement Tracy managed to make the shower curtain look clean and tidy by first ironing it so there were no creases. After, Tracy stapled the shower curtain to some thin plywood and then used No Nails glue to attach the plywood to the outhouse. Peter O'Mahony shares gardening update 'I've been planning for years' on Instagram The post as shared on the Facebook group, Gardening on a Budget Official, which boasts 453k followers. People were quick to congratulate Tracy on her DIY skills in the comments. Advertisement One person wrote: "So much nicer to look at." Another commented: 'This is so effective." How To Make Your Small Garden Look Bigger Garden design expert Fiona Jenkins from has created a guide on how to make your small garden look larger. Add shelves - for additional storage and place to hold more plants. Use foldaway furniture - to take up less space when not in use. Add privacy - with fencing, trellis, brick walls or hedging. Add a water feature - to make your garden seem like a natural retreat. Go bright - when choosing plants, opt for bold colours to make the space pop. Use large planters - to get more plants in less space. Plant vertically - add plants upwards to make your garden seem fuller, and therefore, bigger. Use blue flowers at the edges - blue flowers and plants recede into the distance and make the garden appear bigger. Grow tall plants - it's better to think big when it comes to a small garden. Keep clutter a minimum - as it can give the illusion of less space than there actually is. "Oh wow it looks brill," penned a third. Meanwhile a fourth said: "That looks amazing." Advertisement "And it looks fabulous,' claimed a fifth. Someone else added: 'I actually hate the shower curtain thing. Find it really tacky when I've seen people post pics, but this is done really well. I'm impressed. Looks lovely."

Taking to the Facebook group Gardening on a Budget Official, they shared: 'What on earth! 'The grass was a little patchy and had some moss. 'I used this last week after spending two days using an aerator. 'The state of the grass now..... 'It wasn't like this before using this box of destruction! 'This is my first post on here and some help or advice would be appreciated. What should I do now.' Thankfully the gardening fan had some words of advice to save the day - and said that Westland Triple Care, which is £10 on Amazon, did actually work for her. They explained that it is aerating that 'does that' to lawns, but you need to 'water at least half an hour a day after using the seeds' to revive it. She explained the same thing had happened to her, and said: 'Mine was aerated. I was gutted, cried for a week. 'I waited till it was warmer as done in March, then I seeded, used two large boxes as did back and front. The four easy steps to get your tired lawn lush for summer & you don't need to worry about pigeons ruining it either 'I put the sprinkler on every morning at 7 o clock and every evening at 9 o clock. 'Once you get all the dead stuff up, sprinkle more, see and wait. 'Mine took 6 weeks of true dedication. 'I watered whether it rained or not as lawns are dry as a bone two inch down. 'All is not lost, good luck.' 4 She claimed watering your lawn every day with the seeds will get super green grass Credit: Getty The upset gardener thanked her for her help and said he would 'water, water, water' his grass. The Westland Triple Care lawn feed is said to 'nourish your grass but also tackle weeds and moss head-on.' It is said to create 'a strong and healthy lawn', with greening visible within seven days - if used between the months of February and October.

The 65p Tesco buy that cleaned black spots off my grubby patio & left it looking brand new – just soak and scrub

ONE keen gardener has shared his hack for cleaning up his "grubby" patio and it only costs 65p. Taking to the Garden on a Budget Facebook page, one man described using some bleach, water and pressure washer to transform his neighbour's patio. Advertisement 3 One Facebook user shared how he cleaned up this 'grubby' patio Credit: Gardening on a Budget Official/ Facebook 3 He applied bleach and water for one hour before washing it off Credit: Gardening on a Budget Official/ Facebook 'Just to demonstrate the cheapest and most effective way of cleaning a patio I did my neighbours today so some before and and water left to soak and pressure washed,' wrote Facebook user Scott on the page and shared before and after photos of his efforts. This method would only set you back 65p for the bleach from Tesco, provided you have access to a pressure washer. He was inundated with questions about his method and asked for tips on how to get the best result. Scott explained how he left the bleach for one hour to soak and dry before washing it off. Advertisement gardening "What's the ratio to bleach and water please ???" asked one person to which Scott replied, "Fill a bucket and 300 ml of bleach. The key to this is brush it in and let it soak until dry." Others pointed out that using bleach outside was not great for the environment and some people asked for pet friendly alternatives. Scott said of pet friendly options: "Have done it with washing up liquid too in the past with similar results. Just to break the debris from the surface is all your doing. Bleach merely speeds up the process. Go for Fairy as long as its gets a light scrub and soaks in your good." When using Advertisement Most read in Fabulous Exclusive It should never be used in garden beds as it can make your soil too alkaline to grow plants. When bleach breaks down in your soil, it leaves behind salt, which is harmful to plants. If you have weeds between patio slabs, and choose to use bleach to kill them, it can also damage the stones. My garden was looking so old and the patio was broken - now it's a lush oasis and people can't believe how little I spent Bleach also has strong fumes and can be bad for the environment and your health. It's not only the bleach which can be damaging to the backyard, but also overusing a pressure washer. She had abruptly stopped when she reached one of the neighbour's boundaries due to a dispute. The woman explained on her @__bambamx account: 'When you help your mum paint her slabs, and she has two neighbours - but she doesn't like one. 'Neighbours at war - Don't get any blatant than that.' While one side had the full tile effect, the other was left completely bare. People were amused by the act, with the video racking up over 2,400 likes. Many were also impressed with the DIY hack and asked how it was achieved. One user explained: 'Cream masonry paint full slab then brown for stencil, then top coat of slab sealant.' She's not the only person to have transformed their outdoor space using a stencil with amazing results. We previously shared how one savvy homeowner managed to transform her dull patio on a budget - all by herself. I transformed my grubby garden patio for less than £50 - it was so easy to do, all you need is some paint & a stencil 3 Meanwhile, she finished the design off for the neighbour she did like Credit: tiktok/@__bambamx She used nothing but a stencil and a lick of paint. The DIY whizz named Maddy Mcgrail took to Facebook group Gardening On A Budget Official and posted a before snap of her patio, which was plain and in desperate need of some TLC. Speaking to Fabulous, she then explained how she simply purchased two stencils from Dizzy Duck, which cost her around £40, and some paint which she had leftover. To achieve the finished look, she painted the patio black and, once dry, she then stuck the affordable stencil on one pavement slab at a time. Next, she slowly brushed the white paint over it and after painting over all the gaps, she carefully removed the stencil. 3 Maddy transformed her dull patio using stencils and a lick of paint Credit: Facebook/Gardening on a Budget Official She was then left with a stunning geometric print which gives her outdoor haven a total new lease of life. Proudly posting a photo of her efforts online, she penned: "Well I think the hard work as paid off!" And it seems she isn't the only one to think so, with super impressed social media users quick to flock to the comments section to praise her very handy DIY skills. 'Well done!! Looks amazing," enthused one person.
