Healy shines again before Garth runs through India A

Mackay, Aug 9 (UNI) Alyssa Healy has continued her successful return to the middle, hitting a swashbuckling 70 as Australia A thumped India A by 114 runs in the second T20 here. Fresh off a rapid 27 in the opening game at the Great Barrier Reef Arena, Healy went bigger on Saturday finding the boundary 12 times in her 44-ball innings, laying the foundation for Australia A's 4-187. Her senior Australia teammate Kim Garth (4-7) then set the tone with the ball, taking three wickets in the Powerplay including knocking over the stumps of India A opener Shafali Verma (3), as the tourists were bowled out for 73 in 15.1 overs. Healy had earmarked her decision making as an area for improvement following Thursday's series opener - her first official match since January following a torrid run with injuries last summer - and she was again a class above as she raced away in her 95-run opening stand with fellow opener Tahlia Wilson. Wilson also impressed in her 35-ball 43, and when she fell just shy of a half-century, No.3 Anika Learoyd picked up where she left off in the opening game, hitting five boundaries in her 35 off 21. Courtney Webb (26no off 13) capped off a dominant night for the Australia A batters. "We spoke a lot about the batting innings (after Thursday) and just how we could push that score up to that 180-200 mark, and I think the girls were awesome today," Garth said after the match. "We spoke a lot about intent and how we're going to start our innings and I think we saw some really cool examples of that in Ani, she did really well, and obviously Midge up the top there was awesome. "Throughout the whole the whole batting innings ... I think we played with a lot more intent, so that was really pleasing to see." Garth and left-arm quick Lucy Hamilton, who came into the side for an injured Lauren Cheatle, then gave Australia A a dream start with the ball. Hamilton had Uma Chetry caught for a duck in her first over, before Garth bowled Verma to leave the tourists 2-3. Vrinda Dinesh dug in with 21 from 27 deliveries, but No.8 Minnu Mani (20) was the only other India A batter to register double figures as the Aussies ran rampant. Backing up Garth and Hamilton were fellow quicks Tess Flintoff (2-23) and Sianna Ginger (1-14), while off-spinner Amy Edgar finished with 2-17. Like Healy, Garth has been included in the 'A' T20 games to get crucial match practice ahead of the ODI World Cup in October. Australia haven't played since March, and Healy and Garth are among the few CA-contracted players who aren't currently in action in The Hundred. The pair will be joined by Tahlia McGrath and Darcie Brown for the one-day leg in Brisbane next week. "It was really nice to have a run around out there," Garth said. "There's a lot of stuff I'm happy with, but also a few things I'm working on that I think I need to tidy up on, just in terms of my execution at the end. "It feels like it's been a really long preseason, so it's great to get out there and run around with the girls." The third and final T20 will be played in Mackay on Sunday night. UNI BM

The Summer I Turned Pretty – Season 3 Episode 4 'Last Stand' Recap & Review

Episode 4 Episode 4 of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 begins two weeks after the lunch disaster, where Belly and Jeremiah told their families they're getting married. And four weeks before the big event takes place. Jeremiah is doing an internship with his father and Belly is working shifts at a restaurant. It's Belly's birthday today! Jeremiah calls her up and wishes her. They discuss how they're saving up for the wedding. After the call, Belly heads downstairs and receives a breakfast surprise from her parents. She tries asking Laurel to come wedding dress shopping with her but Laurel refuses. Laurel still thinks the wedding is a mistake and is intent on changing Belly's mind. Jeremiah tries to speak to his father but gets a cold shoulder in return. He's also being called a nepo baby at work, to make things worse. Jeremiah then asks Steven to be his best man. He's excited but asks Jeremiah to keep his participation a secret for now. Meanwhile, Taylor and her mother tried to sort out their finances. But when Belly calls and asks Taylor to come wedding shopping, they decide to meet her. They look for white dresses in regular stores and after a lot of trial and error, Belly finds her wedding dress! But she's upset that she had to do this without her mother. She later calls Jeremiah and asks how they're going to do this without both of their moms. That night, Jeremiah makes a surprise visit at Belly's house with a cake and a gift – a key to the summer house. He's also got flowers for Laurel and tries to talk to her about the wedding. But she stands her ground and asks them to at least wait till school. However, things spiral into a fight between Belly and Laurel, with Laurel saying she can't watch Belly make such a stupid mistake. Belly decides to leave the house for good after this. The two end up at the Cousins summer house. In the morning, they're surprised to see Conrad there. Turns out, he's been staying there the whole time and continues to lie to them about the summer job, saying it will start soon. Belly considers going back to either of her parents' houses but Jeremiah insists he's fine with her staying at Cousins. While out on a run, Agnes calls Conrad and tells him he got the internship at Garth. When he returns to the house, he and Jeremiah go out surfing. Jeremiah brings up the wedding and soon realises Conrad thinks they're getting married too soon. He storms back to the house and tells Belly what happened. When Belly texts her father, he confronts Laurel. He urges Laurel to let Belly make her own mistakes and makes it clear that if the wedding happens, he'll be there. Meanwhile, Conrad buys a flight ticket back west. Over the weekend, Steven and Denise meet in the office for some extra work and end up connecting with each other. Belly says goodbye to Jeremiah who is headed back to work. Realising how hard it is to say goodbye, she decides to cancel her Paris trip and stay with him. Steven then calls Taylor and says he looked into Scott some more. Turns out he opened some lines of credit in Lucinda's name, leaving her with a huge debt. He offers to help pay but she shuts him down. As Belly looks at her old debutant ball dress in her room, she recalls the first time she stayed there. Susannah had done the room up for her but Belly got scared on her own at night. Laurel hugged her all night. At present, Belly cries thinking about her mother. Conrad sees her but he's on his way to the airport and he doesn't say anything. Back home, Taylor tells Lucinda she's not going for the New York internship and has even paid half her mother's debt. Belly wakes up from a nap to see a text from Jeremiah that says Conrad is in and has agreed to be best man. Belly goes downstairs and sees him still there. He says Belly and Jeremiah look happy together. He's even baked Belly some birthday goodies which earns him a hug from her. As she hugs him, he thinks to himself, 'What have I done?' The Episode Review The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Episode 4 continues to be a bit of a drag. We get to see the fallout of Belly and Jeremiah's decision and naturally, no one is very happy about it. Laurel and Belly's relationship takes the strongest hit here and the issues between the mother and daughter feel quite compelling, in part due to Jackie Chung's compelling performance as a concerned mother who is at her wits' end. Overall though, the pace is slow and watching Belly and Jeremiah struggle isn't very engaging. This is largely due to the same reason the previous episode didn't hit the spot — this wedding has been rushed and their relationship isn't convincing enough to warrant it, particularly due to the cheating plotline. If Belly and Jeremiah could convince us of deep romance and everlasting love, like other stories about young marriages have done before, the episode would be a better watch. But as it stands, they do feel like kids rushing headlong into something they don't understand. Even more so when Belly cancels her Paris trip. Funnily enough, the part of the episode that hits the most is Conrad changing his mind, just because he can't stand seeing Belly crying. Atlanta United CEO Garth Lagerwey steps away after cancer diagnosis

Atlanta United president and CEO Garth Lagerwey, one of MLS's most successful executives, is stepping away from his duties after being diagnosed with cancer. Atlanta announced the news Thursday, referring to Lagerwey's leave of absence as "indefinite" and noting that doctors gave the 52-year-old an "encouraging" prognosis for a full recovery. "I have made the difficult decision to step back from Atlanta United to tackle my cancer treatment head-on," said Lagerwey in a team statement. "I would like to express my profound gratitude to Arthur Blank for not only his support, but by doing everything in his power to make this process as painless as possible for me and my family. I could not possibly work for a better organization than [AMB Sports and Entertainment]." "On behalf of myself, Atlanta United, and the entire Blank Family of Businesses, we stand fully behind Garth and his family as they navigate this difficult challenge," added Atlanta United owner Arthur Blank. "Garth's resilience and optimism are part of what makes him such an exceptional leader, and I know he'll carry those strengths in the days ahead. MLS: Lionel Messi transfer rumors won't go away. Will GOAT ink new Miami contract? "I have complete confidence in our leadership team and players as we navigate this transition together. We all look forward to welcoming Garth back in the future and will be praying for him and his family's continued strength, and a smooth recovery." Atlanta announced that in Lagerwey's absence, Chief Soccer Officer Chris Henderson, Chief Business Officer Skate Noftsinger and Senior Vice President of Strategy Dimitrios Efstathiou will run their respective departments on a day-to-day basis, with Lagerwey and CEO of AMB Sports and Entertainment Rich McKay receiving regular reports. Lagerwey's statement expressed "full confidence" in the club's leadership to thrive during his absence, and concluded with a simple declaration: "I shall return." Garth Lagerwey: Who is Atlanta United executive? Lagerwey began his career in MLS as a player in the 1990s, playing for the Kansas City Wiz, Dallas Burn and the now-defunct Miami Fusion. Upon retiring in 2000, Lagerwey got a law degree from Georgetown, but stayed attached to soccer by working as a color commentator for D.C. United and New England Revolution radio and television broadcasts. However, his rise to prominence in MLS came as an executive. Real Salt Lake named Lagerwey its general manager in 2007, and by the end of its third season the club was lifting MLS Cup. Despite running one of the league's smallest-market clubs, Lagerwey's cap management and talent identification kept RSL among the league's serious contenders. A focus on the long-term also saw the club start an academy in Arizona, and to this day RSL is one of the better MLS teams in terms of developing youngsters into pro-ready players. Lagerwey left RSL in 2014 for the Seattle Sounders, and his success continued. Seattle won five major trophies during Lagerwey's tenure, including the 2022 Concacaf Champions Cup (making the Sounders the first MLS club to win that competition in 22 years) and two MLS Cup wins in 2016 and 2019. The Sounders were a model of consistency during Lagerwey's nine-season run, finishing in first or second place in the Western Conference six times, and only finishing outside of the top 10 in MLS's overall standings once. One week after Sounders season-ticket holders voted to retain him in 2022 — a formal process specific to Seattle where the team GM could lose their job should enough fans deliver a vote of no confidence — Atlanta United announced that Lagerwey was its new president and CEO. After missing the playoffs for just the second time ever in 2022, the Five Stripes returned to the postseason in the 2023 and 2024 campaigns, stunning Inter Miami in a major first-round upset last year. Review – Aquaman #7: The Fate of Atlantis

Aquaman #7 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: Aquaman and his crew have made it closer to Dagon's sanctum – and they've picked up an unlikely new partner in their efforts in the form of Zan, one of the two Wonder Twins. As a water elemental, he makes sense to add to the cast – and this teenage adventurer adds a fun touch of chaotic energy to the story. We haven't seen either of the Wonder Twins in any real capacity since the end of Mark Russell's acclaimed take on them, so it makes me wonder where Jayna is and how Zan got captured. But there isn't much time to dwell on that, as the heroes find themselves under attack once again. They beat a hasty retreat to the ship and blast their way through, finally finding the location of the lost Atlantis – which was literally stolen from the surface and transported here whole. And the entire population has been living here in Dagon's kingdom – but time hasn't been working the same way down here. The lost city. Via DC Comics. It's impossible to talk too much about this story without discussing the big twist at its center, but solicits have been kind of giving it away, so yeah – a lot more time has passed in Atlantis than it has on the surface level. This has turned Garth and Jackson into wizened warriors, Andy into a teenager who takes after her mother – and Mera into an old woman on the brink of death. I'm not sure all of this will stick, because it's such a massive status quo change not just to Aquaman's family but to his entire supporting cast. However, the scenes when Arthur is reunited with his family are truly harrowing, as this entire situation is definitely a father's worst nightmare. It reminds me of the ending of Chris Nolan's Interstellar. It's such a huge reset for the title that I can't even guess what'll come next – but I suppose that's the mark of a run that manages to genuinely shake things up for its character. Inside a Glamorous, Art-Filled Wedding at the Iconic Rainbow Room

When planning their New York City wedding, Peter Kelly and Garth Greenan were excited by the opportunity, as a gay couple, to subvert some of the traditional wedding customs that didn't quite resonate with them. 'It was really about doing something that was unique to us as a couple, but also unique to our expectations of [what] a wedding [can be],' Garth says. 'Which, until fairly recently, wasn't even an option for us.' Even a quick Google search showed Peter just how much mainstream wedding planning focused on the bride. 'There are all these conventions set up and we don't really fit that exactly,' he says. 'We started to think about things like, What colors do we have to use? We don't necessarily have to use the black, white, pink, or whatever is more conventional, so why don't we do a mid-century palette? Why don't we do a lot of oranges and browns?' Chellise Michael Photography The wedding took place at the iconic Rainbow Room, a fitting choice for two grooms deeply rooted in the art world—Garth as the founder of Garth Greenan Gallery, and Peter as the founder of Kelly Art Advisory. Visuals played a central role in the celebration. 'I love seasonal realities, and that was a big part of why we chose the Rainbow Room. You look across the park, you see all the orange trees and everything, and it's like seasons are changing, time is moving,' Peter explains. Read on for details about the grooms' custom Bode tuxedoes, how they incorporated art into their ceremony, and why some might even call it a shotgun wedding. The Planning Chellise Michael Photography 'We're fairly traditional,' Garth says. 'The idea started that we were going to do something small. Then it became like, no, we really want to celebrate this and do something proper and big. I don't know that either of us [loves] the kind of attention a wedding brings, but it became this big thing.' The couple teamed up with wedding planner Jove Meyer and quickly landed on the Rainbow Room, a venue Garth had recently visited for an event. 'When we were touring basically every venue possible in the city in a day, it just called out to us as this is where you're supposed to get married,' he recalls. True to their personalities, Peter and Garth made decisions swiftly and confidently. 'The overarching theme for us as a couple and our wedding was that we're very, very, very into planning, and we're very decisive, so it all came together as fast as it possibly could. We never had 12 venues on hold or five chairs that we were looking at,' Garth says. The rehearsal dinner was held at Mel's, a Chelsea pizzeria that has since closed. 'You could see the fire inside [the pizza oven], so it was kind of glowing. We had chosen sort of fall-ish, '70s colors. It wasn't deliberately autumnal, it was just evocative of the era that we were most interested in,' Garth says. 'It was a beautiful evening,' Peter adds. 'We got married right after Halloween, and they still had the Halloween decorations up, which I felt like Garth would be annoyed at, but I thought was so cute.' The Looks Chellise Michael Photography Both grooms wore custom tuxedoes by Bode. 'Garth and I have both been pretty big fans of the brand for a while. We're both really into art, and especially American art. Bode is interested in providing all of these handmade crocheted fabrics, these American textile traditions,' Peter explains. The tuxedoes leaned classic but featured intricate embroidery and beadwork. 'We had this opportunity to be traditional, but to twist it a little bit and put our own spin on it and make it our own. Whatever a wedding means to us, that can be reflected in our tuxedos and our outfits.' The Ceremony Chellise Michael Photography The ceremony was officiated by Neal Ambrose-Smith, an artist the couple collaborates with. They took part in a meaningful ritual, being wrapped in a blanket created by the artist Howardena Pindell. Peter's brother read a Walt Whitman poem chosen by Garth, while Garth's brother shared an excerpt from the Book of Ruth selected by Peter. Chellise Michael Photography Jaune Quick-to-See Smith, an artist Peter has worked with (and Neal Ambrose-Smith's mother), created a beautiful register that was signed by the wedding guests. 'Jaune kept saying that the only reason you're married is because a group of people that care about you and matter to you recognize that you're married,' Garth shares. 'Having all of those people bear witness to that is super important.' The Cocktail Hour Chellise Michael Photography 'The most memorable moment was when Peter and I were alone right after we had actually gotten married—we were together in the wedding suite,' Garth says. 'It was the first moment that we had together where we were actually husbands alone. I couldn't really remember what happened, but I knew something really great had happened.' The Reception Chellise Michael Photography Garth and Peter did their first dance to Dusty Springfield's 'The Look of Love.' The music selection was thoughtfully curated, evolving through the decades as the night progressed. 'The DJ started off with disco, and then it progressed into the '80s and '90s and the 2000s and 2010s. The night went on and just kind of got a little more dancey and fun,' Garth says. The Morning After On Sunday morning, Garth's best man hosted a brunch catered by Electric Burrito in Chelsea, held at the West Village townhouse the couple had just purchased. 'It was nice to kind of say, 'Okay, now that everybody's leaving and we just had this wedding, this is where we're going to be setting up our life together,'' Peter reflects. The new home and the wedding marked monumental life moments happening back-to-back. And soon after, a baby arrived. 'You could say it was a shotgun wedding,' he laughs.
