CAIRO – 29 April 2025: Egypt's Minister of Labor, Mohamed Gebran, has announced that the ministry facilitated the creation of 378,000 job opportunities domestically and an additional 6,000 jobs for Egyptians abroad within the past ten months. Speaking to "Al-Youm Al-Sabea" newspaper, Minister Gebran stated that the Ministry of Labor is currently finalizing the National Employment Strategy, a comprehensive document being developed in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and various local and international development partners. This strategy aims to address the challenges facing the domestic and international labor markets and keep pace with evolving employment patterns and future professions. Gebran emphasized the ministry's ongoing commitment to supporting the state's efforts in reducing unemployment rates, which have significantly decreased from 13% in 2014 to the current 6.4%. He attributed this progress to the large-scale national projects underway in the "New Republic." Detailing the job creation figures, the minister explained that from July 1, 2024, to April 1, 2025, the ministry successfully provided 378,174 job opportunities for young people in private sector establishments. He underscored the commitment of companies to adhering to the minimum wage. These efforts were achieved through 42 employment forums, including specialized events for individuals with disabilities, in addition to the ministry's employment offices across governorates and the periodic National Employment Bulletin, published every 15 days in collaboration with the private sector. Minister Gebran further highlighted the ministry's focus on inclusivity, stating that 55,000 job opportunities were allocated to women and 20,000 to individuals with disabilities. Moreover, 6,000 job opportunities were secured abroad through the ministry's labor representation offices in several Arab and European countries, where approximately 5 million Egyptians are currently employed. During the same ten-month period, the ministry issued 313,831 work permits for Egyptians seeking employment overseas. In a significant move towards modernizing employment services, Minister Gebran pointed out that the first virtual employment forum was organized in April 2025. This innovative event facilitated the simultaneous signing of employment contracts for numerous young individuals, including those with disabilities, across 27 governorates via video conferencing, reflecting the ministry's commitment to digitalizing employment services and improving accessibility.
