Geeta Samota becomes first CISF personnel to scale Mt Everest: Recited Hanuman Chalisa for strength

The pride of achieving an unprecedented feat is often beyond words. And for Geeta Samota, who has etched her name in history, a smile says it all. The 35-year-old Sub-Inspector recently became the first Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel to scale Mount Everest in the 56 years since the force was established. Now back on the plains, Geeta opened up about her recent achievement during a visit to Delhi. Her daunting journey began on May 15, and was marked by avalanches, bone-numbing fatigue, emotional breakdowns and constant threat of danger. But when it culminated in the early hours of May 19, the moment spelt sheer triumph. 'I unfurled the Tiranga... uss ek moment mein jitni bhi thakaan thi, whatever struggles I had gone through, they felt worth it,' says Geeta who was born in a village in Rajasthan and is currently posted in Udaipur. 'No amount of training can fully prepare anyone for it. Jab aap itni unchai pe jate ho, tab har kadam pe lagta hai ki 'Kahin agla kadam mera last toh nahin',' she tells us, noting that the summit doesn't just test physical endurance but breaks and rebuilds human spirit. She adds, 'During the journey, I saw casualties; climbers who lost their lives during the expedition.' A post shared by CISF India (@official_cisf) In moments of self doubt, it was spirituality that lifted her spirit. 'Maine kam se kam 2,000 baar Hanuman Chalisa padhi hogi during the expedition. That gave me the strength to just keep going,' she reveals. In 2015, she became the first woman in CISF to complete the gruelling QRT (Quick Reaction Team) course. She recalls: 'My first expedition was Mt Elbrus (the highest mountain in Europe), which was a failure on the first attempt... I've never stopped since and have accomplished five peaks.' Now, with Everest behind her, Geeta's next goal is clear: conquer the final two peaks to complete the Seven Summits. But before she takes on the next mission, she says: 'It doesn't matter how unfathomable your dream is, if you trust yourself and have unbreakable faith, you will always achieve everything!'

CISF's Geeta Samota scripts history as first woman from the force to scale Everest

New Delhi [India], May 26 (ANI): Sub-Inspector Geeta Samota of the CISF has created history by becoming the first woman personnel from the force to scale Mount Everest, setting a shining example of indomitable courage and unyielding determination. Today, after her successful summit, Geeta arrived at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, where she received a grand welcome from senior CISF officials, the CISF band, and a large crowd of well-wishers. The 35-year-old climber summited the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, standing tall at 8,849 metres, on May 19. Alongside the Indian tricolour, she proudly hoisted the CISF flag on the summit, marking a landmark moment in the 56-year history of the paramilitary force. Speaking to ANI, Geeta Samota said, 'First and foremost, I'm deeply thankful to the CISF for the honour of having its flag hoisted atop the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. I'm especially grateful to our DG Sir for his unwavering support throughout every mission of mine. Today, I feel immense pride in my organisation. In the 56-year history of the CISF, its flag has now flown on the summit of Everest, and for that, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all CISF personnel.' Talking about the beginning of her mountaineering journey, Geeta added, 'A mountain journey isn't something that happens in a day or two. It requires years of struggle and preparation. For me, it's been a 10-year-long journey. My target is to climb the highest peaks of all seven continents. I've already hoisted the CISF flag on five of them, and only two remain, which I aim to complete soon.' She dedicated her achievement to her CISF colleagues. Geeta said, 'I dedicate this achievement to all my CISF colleagues. Just as I've struggled to reach Everest, they too work with the same level of effort, honesty, and perseverance every day. This success belongs to all of them.' She also spoke about the increasing presence of women as the face of India's armed and paramilitary forces, and the recent example of two women officers being entrusted with briefing responsibilities during Operation Sindoor. She futher added, 'Earlier, these ideas existed only in books and speeches, women's empowerment was more of a concept than a reality. But today, we're seeing it on the ground. This is a very positive change, and we're proud to see women advancing in every field. Dream big. Only when you dream can you turn them into reality. It will take time and demand a lot of hard work, but it is possible. The armed forces are a great platform to fulfil such dreams. I'm living proof of that, having climbed Mount Everest.' 'The journey was incredibly tough. There were moments when I questioned myself, thinking I was better off staying down below. But the moment you reach the top and hoist the national flag, all the exhaustion and doubt vanish. At that point, the only words that come out are 'Jai Hind',' she concluded. (ANI)

CISF sub-inspector Geeta Samota becomes first from force to scale Mt Everest

NEW DELHI: CISF sub-inspector Geeta Samota has become the first CISF personnel to scale Mt Everest, the world's highest peak at 8,849 metres. The feat is a culmination of her 'seven summits' dream that took wing in 2019 with her becoming the first woman from a central armed police force (CAPF) to climb Mount Satopanth in Uttarakhand. Having trained at the ITBP's mountaineering training institute in Auli, Geeta went on to scale Mount Lobuche in Nepal the same year. Even COVID pandemic could not break her streak, as she went on to climb four more peaks over a span of six months and 27 days between 2021 and early 2022. These included Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 mtrs) in Australia, Mount Elbrus ((5,642 mtrs) in Russia, Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 mtrs) in Tanzania, andMonday, Geeta achieved the most ambitious challenge of her mountaineering career, as she stood on Everest peak, the 'roof of the world'. — CISFHQrs (@CISFHQrs) Geeta comes from a modest background, having grown up with four sisters in Chak village of Sikar district, Rajasthan. Growing up, she would hear tales of boys' accomplishments but noticed a void in stories celebrating girls' achievements, an observation that ignited a quiet determination within her to make her mark. A promising hockey player in college, she had to step away due to an injury and joined the CISF in 2011. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Health: Over-40s are snapping up the new indestructible military smartwatch Indestructible Smartwatch Undo At CISF, Geeta noticed that mountaineering was a less-trodden path; CISF did not even have a dedicated mountaineering team at the time. She astutely recognized this as an opportunity and became the only female participant in the 2015 mountaineering course batch at the ITBP training institute in Auli. Geeta has earlier been conferred with the International Women's Day award in 2023 by the Delhi Commission for Women and the 'Giving Wings to Dreams Award 2023' by the ministry of civil aviation. The CISF has been a steadfast supporter of her mountaineering endeavors, sending her on expeditions and granting her financial backing. On Tuesday, CISF DG congratulated SI Geeta, with the force describing her as a beacon of inspiration for the youth of India and source of immense pride for the entire CAPF fraterinty. CISF now plans to send a full mountaineering team to scale Mt Everest in 2026.
