CISF's Geeta Samota scripts history as first woman from the force to scale Everest
New Delhi [India], May 26 (ANI): Sub-Inspector Geeta Samota of the CISF has created history by becoming the first woman personnel from the force to scale Mount Everest, setting a shining example of indomitable courage and unyielding determination. Today, after her successful summit, Geeta arrived at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, where she received a grand welcome from senior CISF officials, the CISF band, and a large crowd of well-wishers.
The 35-year-old climber summited the world's highest peak, Mount Everest, standing tall at 8,849 metres, on May 19. Alongside the Indian tricolour, she proudly hoisted the CISF flag on the summit, marking a landmark moment in the 56-year history of the paramilitary force.
Speaking to ANI, Geeta Samota said, 'First and foremost, I'm deeply thankful to the CISF for the honour of having its flag hoisted atop the world's highest peak, Mount Everest. I'm especially grateful to our DG Sir for his unwavering support throughout every mission of mine. Today, I feel immense pride in my organisation. In the 56-year history of the CISF, its flag has now flown on the summit of Everest, and for that, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all CISF personnel.'
Talking about the beginning of her mountaineering journey, Geeta added, 'A mountain journey isn't something that happens in a day or two. It requires years of struggle and preparation. For me, it's been a 10-year-long journey. My target is to climb the highest peaks of all seven continents. I've already hoisted the CISF flag on five of them, and only two remain, which I aim to complete soon.'
She dedicated her achievement to her CISF colleagues.
Geeta said, 'I dedicate this achievement to all my CISF colleagues. Just as I've struggled to reach Everest, they too work with the same level of effort, honesty, and perseverance every day. This success belongs to all of them.'
She also spoke about the increasing presence of women as the face of India's armed and paramilitary forces, and the recent example of two women officers being entrusted with briefing responsibilities during Operation Sindoor.
She futher added, 'Earlier, these ideas existed only in books and speeches, women's empowerment was more of a concept than a reality. But today, we're seeing it on the ground. This is a very positive change, and we're proud to see women advancing in every field. Dream big. Only when you dream can you turn them into reality. It will take time and demand a lot of hard work, but it is possible. The armed forces are a great platform to fulfil such dreams. I'm living proof of that, having climbed Mount Everest.'
'The journey was incredibly tough. There were moments when I questioned myself, thinking I was better off staying down below. But the moment you reach the top and hoist the national flag, all the exhaustion and doubt vanish. At that point, the only words that come out are 'Jai Hind',' she concluded. (ANI)

Golden Line: DMRC completes tunnelling at Tughlakabad Railway Colony station
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Saturday successfully completed tunnelling at Tughlakabad Railway Colony station in south Delhi for the upcoming Golden Line, a part of the Phase IV of the metro expansion, said a DMRC official. The tunnel will connect Maa Anandmayee Marg, near Kalkaji Temple, to Tughlakabad station, the last station on the Golden Line. The DMRC official said the last tunnelling breakthrough of 792 metres, achieved using a tunnel boring machine (TBM), took place in the presence of Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar, and other officials. TBMs are designed to bore through various soil and rock layers while minimising disruption to the surface. 'They are especially effective in urban settings and have been extensively used in previous metro phases,' the DMRC official said. According to the official, the breakthrough of a parallel tunnel running across the stretch will be achieved by July this year. Operation target Of the 23.62-km stretch of the Golden Line, 19 km is underground and the remaining 4.5 km is elevated. The metro line, according to the DMRC, is expected to be operational by mid-2026 and will feature four interchange facilities: the Magenta Line at Indira Gandhi International Airport's T-1, the Airport Express Line at Aerocity, the Yellow Line at Chhatarpur, and the Violet Line at Tughlakabad. A total of 15 stations will be located on the Golden Line, comprising 11 underground and four elevated stations. Once the Golden Line becomes operational, south Delhi will be directly connected to the IGI Airport. Work in progress Speaking on the occasion, the Transport Minister said that the breakthrough reaffirms the Centre's commitment to modern and sustainable urban infrastructure that enhances ease of living, reduces road congestion, and contributes to environmental sustainability. 'Ever since our [Bharatiya Janata Party] government came to power in Delhi, we have worked to restore the public's trust, and this is now clearly visible in the progress of long-delayed metro phases. What was once stalled is now moving at full speed,' said Mr. Singh.

Sonali Bendre recalls visiting Babulnath Temple and Siddhivinayak Temple with Coldplay's Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson: ‘She's such a lovely person'
When British singer Chris Martin of Coldplay visited India earlier this year, it wasn't just his music that stole hearts. Alongside Hollywood actress Dakota Johnson , the duo surprised fans by exploring the spiritual side of Mumbai. They were joined by Bollywood actress Sonali Bendre and 'Swades' star Gayatri Oberoi during their quiet yet meaningful visit to some of the city's most iconic temples. Before Coldplay's big concerts at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on January 18 and 19, Chris and Dakota paid a special visit to the Babulnath Temple. Photos and videos of the couple offering prayers along with Sonali and Gayatri quickly went viral, showing them soaking in the spiritual vibe. Sonali recalls taking Dakota and Chris to Mumbai's famous temples In her interview with ANI, Sonali Bendre fondly remembered the moment she was asked to join the group on their spiritual journey. She said, "She's (Dakota) such a lovely person. It was my yoga teacher who told me that, you know what, somebody is coming in and they want to be taken to a few temples. Will you do this? I'm like, okay, who is it? And that's how I get to know. So I think Chris and her (Dakota) wanted to have a temple experience. And I think that's an experience everybody should have at some point. It was lovely. Philippines to offer visa-free entry to Indians from June 8
The Philippines said on Saturday that Indian nationals will be allowed to enter the country without a visa for tourism purposes beginning June 8. The visa-free arrangement is aimed at boosting tourism arrivals from India, which rose 12% in 2024 to nearly 80,000, according to data from the Department of Tourism. Despite the growth, Indian arrivals to the Philippines remain a small portion of the over five million who travelled to Southeast Asia last year. Under the visa-free policy, Indian nationals can enter the Philippines without a visa for up to 14 days. Those holding valid visas or residence permits from the United States, Australia, Canada, Schengen countries, Singapore, or the United Kingdom can stay in the Philippines visa-free for up to 30 days.
