I Wear This Elevated Basic More Than Anything Else In My Wardrobe - And It's Selling Fast
@Instagram/@ @claudia_berresford, Grazia/Gemma Lavers There are clothes you have for a season, and then there are lifers. A 'lifer', per se, is what I like to refer to those absolute failsafes in your wardrobe as. Those items you know will always be on hand to save any outfit dilemmas (or consequential breakdowns). The best example of a lifer? A basic t-shirt. In fact, I wear a white t-shirt so often that if you were to bump into me on a Sunday morning coffee run, Thursday evening supermarket dash or Saturday evening on the sofa, chances are, I'd be wearing one. But, you don't need to take a peek into my wardrobe, an It-girl's suitcase or an A-lister's styling rail to know that we all have one item in common. The beauty in a t-shirt, of course, lies in its versatility. Whether you're planning on pairing it with an oversized blazer and trousers, or (my favourite), with a pair of COS jeans, a t-shirt will pull any outfit together, with no need to even think about it. ©Instagram/@claudia_berresford & Other Stories, Draped Asymmetric T-Shirt - White Look to & Other Stories for the perfect elevated t-shirt. Its style features flattering draping around the middle, a classic round neck and an asymmetric hemline. There are a couple of requirements that said t-shirt has to meet, however, before becoming a permanent fixture in my wardrobe rotation. It must have a round neck, for example, it must also not be see-through (you wouldn't believe how many white tees I've tried on and had the disappointing reality that I wouldn't be able to wear it out of the house), and it must also have that perfectly oversized fit. If it ticks all three of those boxes, then yes, you will see me in it for the next 10-15 working days. & Other Stories, Draped Asymmetric T-Shirt - Black The same style as its lighter counterpart, style the black with a bright coloured pair of trousers and ballet flats. Lately, the humble t-shirt has had a little bit of a quiet reinvention. While scrolling the high street, you might notice that t-shirts now come with additional elevated details - a considered fold, or a boxy bagginess. There's a gentle architecture to a draped t-shirt, the kind of shaping you'd expect from a statement dress or tailoring, yet it retains all the ease of a throw-on-and-go basic. & Other Stories' Draped Asymmetric T-Shirt has an asymmetric hem and comes in an array of different colours, from a classic white to a more transitional mole brown. Zara's iteration, its Washed Cap Sleeve T-Shirt, features softly draped sleeves that make a white tee look infinitely cooler (take your usual size, however). Both of these high street picks are proof that draping isn't necessarily a one-size thing - it can be more structured, or more flowy and romantic, all while keeping the familiar comfort of a t-shirt intact. Zara, Washed Cap Sleeve T-Shirt Zara's take on a draped t-shirt is equally as chic, with a round neck and draped cap sleeves. Stick to your usual size as the t-shirt comes up slightly oversized anyway, but still has that fitted middle. It's also available in two delectable darker colours, brown and mink. Just when you thought fashion couldn't possibly reinvent anything else, along comes the draped t-shirt. It's a subtle change, yes, but one with carefully placed folds, knots and ruching that brings a fresh shape to a piece we all know and love. And isn't that just the best thing about a draped t-shirt? You already know you're going to love it, as it holds the same qualities as a classic t-shirt, but it's just a little more exciting, and a little more, well, fun - I call that shopping smarter rather than shopping harder. You'll thank me later. Mango, T-Shirt With Gathered Asymmetrical Neck Mango's draped t-shirt features an asymmetric neck and gathering. A good one to have in your wardrobe when the 'nice top and jeans' formula comes up, finish the look with a pair of vintage Levi's and kitten heels. All Saints, Leslie Satin Short Sleeve Top All Saints also has a draped t-shirt, and its style is there to cinch you in and flatter. With inner drawstrings, adjustable length and zip closure, style this iteration with a pair of denim shorts and flat knee-high boots. River Island, Beige Short Sleeve Drape Side T-Shirt River Island's take looks similar to the popular & Other Stories style, and is available in a similar array of colours, including white, black and butter yellow. Use the t-shirt to dress up a pair of wide-leg trousers, and add colourful accessories. Whistles, White Twist Front Detail Tee Whistles has a white t-shirt with twist-front detailing at the chest, short sleeves and a crew neckline. The brand calls it a 'must-have addition to your spring/summer collection' and honestly, we can't disagree. H&M, Tie-Detail Top H&M is also another great place to head to if you're on the hunt for those basic pieces that build the foundation of a capsule wardrobe. Its Tie-Detail Top has all the hallmarks of the perfect tee, just with the addition of a tie around the middle. I'm Shocked - The Only Face Tan I Use Is Now Under Half Price In The Amazon Sale
There's no denying that fake tan is a summer staple. Among my bag of essentials sit the Drunk Elephant sunshine drops, Shisiedo's eye masks, Erborian's CC creme and, most importantly, my favourite fake tan – St Tropez's face mist. You might be thinking, fake tan? In the summer? To most, it might seem counterproductive – you can get an equally as good tan sitting outside most of the time – but, for us Brits, who spend most of the supposed 'summer' in a raincoat, fake tan is somewhat of a necessity. My favourite for tanning my face? St Tropez's Purity Face Mist, of course. St Tropez's face mist delivers that just-back-from-the-Med glow. The formula is packed with skin-loving ingredients that won't block your pores, and it actually smells good (which is a nice departure from the usual pungent biscuit smell). The best bit? It's gloriously low-effort. Five to six spritzes, either under or over make-up, and you'll be bronzed in under 12 hours. The easiest way to work it into your skincare routine is to spray the mist over your evening serum, but before your moisturiser. St Tropez, Self Tan Purity Face Mist Price: $9.99 (was £24) St Tropez's bronzing mist is praised for its ultra-lightweight finish and natural-looking tan. Plus, if you're worried about any breakouts while using the mist, worry no more, as it's made with non-pore-blocking ingredients and is enriched with hyaluronic acid. With reviewers dubbing the face mist as 'long-lasting and you don't need much for each application' and 'the best results ever,' it's clear the face mist isn't just my favourite, but is a favourite for over 10,000 others, too. Currently on sale at under £10 in the Amazon Prime Day sale, now's the best time to invest in your summer glow. Holiday booked or not, the St Tropez face mist is your fast-track to that beach break in a bottle, delivering a glow that gives the illusion of time spent somewhere far more glamorous than your commute. I Missed Out On This Instagram-Famous Top Twice - But It's Just Been Restocked
Lighter evenings, Pimms back on the menu and constant talk about a looming heatwave all point in one direction - we're waiting for summer. As for your wardrobe? Nothing says 'I'm ready for summer' like digging out gingham, well, everything. Whether the print conjures memories of 90s rom-com wardrobes, picnic blankets (in a chic way of course) or Alexa Chung's festival heyday, gingham has truly earned its place as a sunny staple. Albaray's take on the gingham trend, its Gingham Blouse, feels somewhat nostalgic, thanks to its comfortable elasticated neckline. Steering clear of twee territory or any cottagecore connotations, the monochrome check is anything but frumpy, and the sleeves have a gentle puff, which gives the top volume and interest (but won't make you feel like you're off to a debutante). Plus, made from a responsibly sourced cotton blend, the gingham blouse also ticks the box for breathable comfort, designed to take you from a commute on the central line to copious beer gardens this summer. Gingham Blouse Albaray's Gingham Blouse is the perfect summer top. Not only does it have that trending gingham pattern that's reminiscent of a (very chic) picnic blanket, but it also has balloon sleeves and elasticated neckline - which means it can be worn one of two ways - on your shoulders or off. Depending on how you want to style the blouse, the top can be worn both on and off your shoulders. Yes, it may be tan line-dependent, but this Albaray top actually stays put if you're planning to wear it off the shoulder without having to constantly readjust. Style it with a pair of wide-leg linen trousers and a straw bag for a look that wouldn't look out of place on the French Riviera, or, for everyday with Bermuda shorts and chunky sandals. Come the cooler evenings, layer the Gingham Blouse underneath a lightweight trench coat (Alexa Chung was spotted in an affordable Mango style only last week) or boxy blazer. It's rare to find a summer top this good - and, clearly I'm not alone as the Gingham Blouse has just been restocked for the second time and is already selling out in a couple of sizes. Gingham may be a timeless print, but this one won't be around long so serious contemplation isn't advised.
