You could also offer me a role," said Genelia while talking to FilmyMantra. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'But you go as per the norms. Maybe you think I'm married, so I don't need this character. I just feel filmmaking has changed, and so should our mentality. It's very important that if you want a character of a certain age, you should cast someone of that age. When we cast an actor who's much younger than the character I played, they can't understand the little-little things of it. It's important to cast right. And I hope opportunities go everyone's way," she added. How Genelia D'Souza stays fit at 37: Actress credits her ‘Indian diet' with a twist. Here's what she eats
At 37, Genelia D'Souza continues to turn heads not just for her screen presence but also for her fitness. The actress, who is all set to appear in Aamir Khan's upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par , recently opened up about her health journey and how her diet plays a central role in maintaining her toned physique. Transition to a Plant-Based Lifestyle In a candid conversation on the Pretty Healthy with Dr. Priti podcast last year, Genelia revealed that she became a vegetarian around 2017. Over time, she took a step further and completely eliminated dairy, embracing a fully plant-based lifestyle. The decision, she explained, was not just about physical health but also about being more conscious of what she consumes. Genelia admitted that making the switch was not easy initially, as finding the right vegan alternatives required time and planning. However, with consistent effort and a focus on nutrition, she gradually adjusted to her new lifestyle. She pointed out that mindful meal planning is key to getting enough protein from plant-based foods. Belief in the Indian Diet Genelia also praised traditional Indian meals for their variety and nutritional balance. 'I feel the Indian diet is the most balanced diet. A: there's a lot of cooking that's involved. B: there's a lot of spices, so all foods are forgiving in this diet because you know every food can taste better if you spice it the right way,' she said. She believes that the inclusion of spices and diverse ingredients makes Indian cuisine ideal for plant-based eating. According to her, the diet works for vegetarians, vegans, and even those who consume meat, as long as they are mindful of their choices. She also shared that she follows a monthly meal plan to ensure consistency and nutritional balance. Busting Myths About Protein Addressing common misconceptions about vegan diets, Genelia responded strongly to the claim that plant-based eaters struggle to get sufficient protein. 'Oh my God, I'm fed up with this. It is such a myth... I lifted 100 kg on a plant-based diet , so it's an absolute myth,' she said during the podcast. She noted that even foods like bananas contain protein and emphasized that protein is not exclusive to animal-based products. Explaining her own approach, Genelia mentioned that she substitutes common Indian dishes with vegan alternatives. 'So instead of palak paneer, I do palak tofu,' she said, acknowledging that while tofu isn't exactly like paneer, it can be flavorful if prepared well. She highlighted tofu's nutritional value, stating that it's comparable to meat in terms of protein while being low in fat and cholesterol-free. Upcoming Project: Sitaare Zameen Par While maintaining her health remains a priority, Genelia is also gearing up for her role in Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual sequel to the 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. The film stars Aamir Khan as a basketball coach named Gulshan, who is assigned by a court to train a group of intellectually disabled children. Directed by R.S. Prasanna, the film is set for release on June 20 and features ten new child actors in pivotal roles.
