Saudi authorities arrest foreigners for drug offenses

RIYADH: The Kingdom's authorities arrested several foreign nationals across the country this week for drug offenses, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Tuesday. Security patrols in Asir region arrested two Sudanese residents for possessing 16 kg of qat in Al-Farsha governorate. In addition, the General Directorate of Narcotics Control arrested two Bangladeshi residents in the Eastern Province for selling methamphetamine, also known as shabu. Meanwhile, border guard land patrols in the Ad-Daer sector in Jazan arrested three Ethiopian nationals for smuggling 73,500 unregulated medical tablets. And in the Al-Rabou'ah sector in Asir they arrested 17 Ethiopians for smuggling 255 kg of qat. The security authorities called on citizens and residents to report drug-related activities by calling 911 in Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and 999 and 994 in other regions of the Kingdom. All reports will be handled confidentially, the authorities said.

ZATCA Foils Attempt To Smuggle 310,000 Captagon Pills Through Jeddah Port

The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) thwarted an attempt to smuggle 310,000 Captagon pills, a form of amphetamine, into Saudi Arabia through Jeddah Islamic Port. ZATCA spokesperson Hamoud Al-Harbi said the illicit pills were discovered hidden in various compartments of a vehicle arriving at the port. Upon uncovering the concealed shipment, ZATCA coordinated with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, leading to the arrest of eight individuals believed to be linked to the case. Al-Harbi reaffirmed the authority's commitment to tightening customs control across Saudi Arabia's entry points, emphasizing that such efforts are vital to protecting society from the dangers of drug trafficking. He also encouraged the public to report smuggling attempts by contacting the designated hotline (1910), emailing 1910@ or calling internationally at +9661910. ZATCA guarantees full confidentiality and offers financial rewards for verified reports.

The Saudi security authorities have seized 411,546 amphetamine pills hidden inside plastic tubes in the intestines of sheep in the Hafar Al-Batin governorate in the Eastern Province. The authorities arrested the recipients —two Saudi citizens and a displaced expatriate. The arrests were made during the security campaign carried out by the Ministry of Interior to crack down on drug smugglers through close monitoring of drug smuggling and trafficking activities, which target the security of the Kingdom and its youth. The security authorities called upon citizens and residents to report any information they have about any activities related to drug smuggling or trafficking, by calling the numbers 911 in the regions of Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh and the Eastern Province, and 999 in the rest of the regions of the Kingdom. They can also contact the General Directorate of Narcotics Control's reporting number 995, and via email (Email: 995@ All reports will be handled with complete confidentiality, the authorities revealed.

The Saudi security authorities have arrested 20 drug smugglers in massive security operations carried out across the Kingdom within the last 24 hours. Those arrested include citizens and violators of border security regulations. The arrests were made in the regions of Tabuk, Asir, the Northern Borders, and Jazan, for their involvement in promoting or smuggling narcotics. In the Tabuk region, the General Directorate of Narcotics Control arrested six citizens and Egyptian residents for promoting hashish and amphetamine, in addition to pills subject to medical circulation regulations. In the Asir region, a citizen was arrested for promoting 8,000 pills subject to medical circulation regulations. In the Northern Borders region, two citizens were arrested for promoting hashish and amphetamine. As part of efforts to combat cross-border smuggling attempts, Border Guard land patrols teams in the Dhahran Al-Janoub sector in the Asir region arrested five Ethiopian border security violators, who were in possession of 52 kilograms of hashish. Border Guard patrols in Al-Daer sector in the Jazan region also arrested four Ethiopian violators for smuggling 80 kilograms of khat, while security patrols in Al-Farsha governorate in the Asir region foiled an attempt to smuggle 28 kilograms of khat. The security authorities confirmed that they had completed the initial legal procedures against those involved, and handed them over, along with the seized items, to the competent authorities. They were then referred to the Public Prosecution. The authorities emphasized their continued pursuit of anyone who would threaten the security of society. They called upon citizens and residents to report any information they have about any activities related to drug smuggling or trafficking, by calling the numbers 911 in the regions of Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh, and the Eastern Province, and the number 999 in the rest of the Saudi regions. The information can also be passed to the General Directorate of Narcotic Control over the number 995, the authorities said while noting that all reports will be dealt with in complete confidentiality.
