England U21 3-2 Germany U21 (AET): Jonathan Rowe the hero as Young Lions claim back-to-back Euro U21 titles
England U21 have retained the European U21 Championship by beating Germany U21 in a dramatic final after extra-time. 2009 was the last time these two nations faced off in a Euro U21 Championship final and it was a one-sided affair as Germany ran out 4-0 winners. Advertisement A reversal seemed to be on the cards at one stage as England raced into a two-goal lead inside the opening 25 minutes, but Germany responded and got back on level terms with strikes either side of the break and they almost won it with the virtually the final kick of the regular 90. In the end, Jonathan Rowe - on as a substitute at the start of extra-time - scored what turned out to be the winner with only his second touch of the game, earning the Young Lions their fourth U21s title in the process. Harvey Elliott, the hero in the semi-final against the Netherlands, gave England a dream start inside five minutes. Omari Hutchinson was heavily involved as he saw a shot saved by Noah Atubolu and the rebound fell to the in-form Liverpool midfielder who found the net with a lovely finish. The Young Lions had chances - most notably through Jay Stansfield - to extend their lead before Hutchinson did just that. Advertisement Captain James McAtee did superbly to work the ball to the unmarked winger in the box and the Ipswich star drilled an effort through Atubolu's legs to put England 2-0 up before the half hour mark. Very much on top, Lee Carsley's youngsters could have been out of sight before half-time as a fine save from Atubolu kept Germany in the game. That said, shortly before the break came a turning point. Alex Scott limped off with an injury and his replacement Tyler Morton couldn't get near Nelson Weiper who planted a bullet header past James Beadle to reduce the deficit in stoppage time. Paul Nebel, who claimed the assist for Weiper's goal, completed the comeback with a fantastic strike and was then denied a winner in stoppage time as his effort crashed against the crossbar. Having survived that scare, Carsley's substitution at the start of the second half paid off within minutes as Rowe made enough contact with Morton's superb cross to crown England kings of Europe at under-21 level once again.

Germany U21s accused of pinching BEER MUGS by ‘crying hostess' who stormed team bus past security with machine guns
A 'VISIBLY DISTRAUGHT' woman stormed past a security armed with a submachine gun onto the Germany Under-21 team bus to accuse them of stealing BEER MUGS. Antonio Di Salvo's men are aiming to tame our Young Lions in Bratislava tonight and become European champions. 3 3 And it seems £35m-rated star striker Nick Woltemade and Co's thirst for success has got the better of them. Germany secured their spot in the showpiece by thumping France 3-0 on Wednesday at Kosicka Futbalova Arena. Now explosive reports in their homeland have revealed that afterwards they were confronted by one of the stadium's VIP hostesses on the team bus. The fuming woman, described as being 'visibly distraught' and having 'her makeup smeared by tears', stormed the coach as staff and players waited for the few remaining stars to complete post-match doping tests. The lady marched straight past a security guard armed with a submachine gun and four stewards to board the coach and headed straight for boss Di Salvo, who was seated near the front. She then pulled out her phone and began taking several photos as the Germans looked on in total bemusement. The mugs, worth €3 each, were believed to have been provided for the match officials to enjoy some post-match fluids. Instead, 15 of them went missing and stadium staff were quick to point the finger of blame at the German players. A stadium supervisor told BILD: 'German players simply stole around 15 beer mugs. They probably think it's all free — but it isn't. 'That's why my employee ran onto the bus. She wanted to take photos as evidence.' Germany denied all accusations of theft and instead claim that somebody else, not associated with them, must have removed the mugs. U21 press officer Markus Beer said: 'It was all completely different. The woman had brought several beer mugs into the catacombs, presumably for the referees. Then later, empty mugs were there, which were suddenly gone. 'Someone must have thrown them away. She obviously thought our players had simply taken them. But that was definitely not the case.' It remains unclear whether the mugs were eventually recovered by the distraught woman and staff at the Kosicka Futbalova Arena. 3 But Lee Carsley and his England side will be going all out to ensure it is Woltemade and his pals who look the mugs at the Stadion Tehelne Pole in the Slovakian capital. And hopefully it will be them crying into their beer steins later should our boys lift the European Championship for a second-consecutive time. England's Under-21 Euros squad in FULL ENGLAND are looking to retain their status as Under-21 European champions this summer in Slovakia. Here is Lee Carsley's full squad for the blockbuster tournament: Goalkeepers: James Beadle (Brighton and Hove Albion), Teddy Sharman-Lowe (Chelsea), Tommy Simkin (Stoke City) Defenders: Charlie Cresswell (FC Toulouse), Ronnie Edwards (Southampton), CJ Egan-Riley (Burnley), Tino Livramento (Newcastle United), Brooke Norton Cuffy (Genoa), Jarell Quansah (Liverpool) Midfielders: Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Archie Gray (Tottenham Hotspur), Hayden Hackney (Middlesbrough), Jack Hinshelwood (Brighton and Hove Albion), Tyler Morton (Liverpool), Alex Scott (AFC Bournemouth) Forwards: Harvey Elliott (Liverpool), Omari Hutchinson (Ipswich Town), Sam Iling Jnr (Aston Villa), James McAtee (Manchester City), Ethan Nwaneri (Arsenal), Jonathan Rowe (Marseille), Jay Stansfield (Birmingham City)

Nick Woltemade only focused on Germany U21s amid Bayern Munich interest
Nick Woltemade has been front and centre of a transfer to Bayern Munich this week, but Germany's U21 star avoided any questions that arose of a pending transfer to the Bundesliga champions with his sole focus on winning the UEFA European U21 Championship. 'I'm really looking forward to the final and being on the pitch with the guys that I've been playing with for so long,' Woltemade told reporters gathered at the press conference. 'This is a unique opportunity to win the title – that's what we're aiming for. It will be my last U21 international match, and that's why there's a lot of anticipation for the game.' Advertisement When asked about how the background noise affects him, the 23-year-old replied: 'Well, I'm really looking forward to the game,' before a UEFA representative intervened. Pushed for an answer, Woltemade added: 'There are always things happening around you – that affects not only me, but other players as well,' before stating that the final is his only focus: 'It's the only chance in my life that I can win the U21 title, and I'd love to do that.' Germany U21 head coach Antonio Di Salvo also had his say on the matter: 'I'm concerned with 23 players and the final, and I couldn't care less about anything else. We have our focus on preparing the entire team for this game, and nothing else matters at all.' GGFN | Daniel Pinder

England U21 vs Germany U21 prediction, odds and betting offer
The European Championship U21 final finds old rivals England face Germany with both sides equally matched as the Young Lions look to secure back-to-back U21 titles England's U21 team stands on the brink of history, just one victory away from becoming the first side since Spain in 2013 to clinch consecutive U21 European Championship titles. This opportunity arises after a thrilling 2-1 triumph over the Netherlands, thanks to Harvey Elliott's crucial double, propelling the Young Lions into Saturday night's final. Under Lee Carsley's guidance, England's journey has been a rollercoaster. They began with a promising 3-1 win against the Czech Republic but then faced challenges, drawing 0-0 with Slovenia and losing to Germany in their final group match. However, they found their stride in the quarter-finals, defeating Spain 3-1 in a repeat of the final from two years ago in Georgia. The Young Lions aim to secure a standalone third place in the all-time list of U21 European champions. Their previous successes were in the early 1980s, and they ended a long title drought by lifting the trophy again in 2023. Germany has been dominant throughout this year's tournament, winning all five of their matches, including a victory over England in the group stage. Antonio di Salvio's squad is riding high on an unbeaten streak of 20 matches since their last defeat, which coincidentally was to England. In this summer's competition, Germany opened with a commanding 3-0 win over Slovenia, followed by a 4-2 triumph over the Czech Republic. They capped off their group stage with a 2-1 victory over the defending champions. Their path to the semi-finals included an extra-time win against Italy after conceding a late equaliser but eventually securing a spot in the last four. Germany's semi-final against France was straightforward, as they surged to a 2-0 lead within the first 15 minutes and concluded with a decisive 3-0 win. England has bested Germany in two of their last three encounters at U21 level under Carsley's leadership, although their most recent clash in this tournament ended in Germany's favour. Saturday night promises an electrifying showdown as these two powerhouses meet once more in the U21 Euros final. England enters as slight favourites due to their knockout stage experience and arguably stronger squad depth, despite having already suffered a defeat to Germany earlier in this competition.
