Xabi Alonso urges Real Madrid not to underestimate ‘historic' Juventus

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has urged his side not to underestimate Juventus, as the two clubs prepare to meet in the Club World Cup round of 16. Madrid dropped points against Simone Inzaghi's Al-Hilal whilst Igor Tudor's side lost 5-2 to Manchester City in the final group stage match. Advertisement Despite this thumping at the hands of the Premier League giants, Xabi Alonso has urged his Real Madrid not to underestimate the Bianconeri, with quotes via Tuttosport, arguing that 'the result against [Manchester] City doesn't matter – they have a great team and it will be really tough.' Alonso on Juventus threat to Real Madrid and Mbappe fitness Alonso is aware of the threat the Old Lady pose, adding that 'once you get past the group stage, every match feels like a final. Juve is Juve – they are a historic club in Europe.' When asked about the French forward, Alonso said 'We need Kylian, obviously. We want him back as soon as possible and in the best condition. He's one of the best players in the world so I hope that he will be ready. I can't guarantee he'll play but we are optimistic.' Mbappe was instrumental for Real Madrid last season after his move from PSG, scoring 31 goals and assisting three in 34 La Liga matches. However, Madrid failed to win their domestic title, with Hansi Flick's Barcelona proving too tough to overcome.

How much Chelsea will earn from Anjorin sale to Torino

How much Chelsea will earn from Anjorin sale to Torino More details are emerging on the Torino agreement for Tino Anjorin, as Empoli must give 40 per cent of the €5m fee to his old club Chelsea. As reported last night, the deal is done to snap up both Anjorin and his Empoli teammate Ardian Ismajli, who is a free agent after his contract was allowed to run down. Advertisement Sky Sport Italia now clarify that Torino are going to pay circa €5m to buy the attacking midfielder. (Photo by) Empoli are still making a healthy profit, but as part of the agreement that saw them snap up the player last year for free, they will owe his former club Chelsea a 40 per cent cut of the fee. That means the Tuscans are set to pocket €3m and Chelsea will get €2m from the sale. A product of the Chelsea youth academy, Anjorin also played for Lokomotiv Moscow, Huddersfield and Portsmouth before moving to Italy. He scored two goals with three assists in 22 Serie A games this season, but could not prevent Empoli's relegation. The English player is seen as the heir to Milan-bound Samuele Ricci.

Juventus dealt bitter injury blow ahead of Real Madrid showdown

Real Madrid take on Juventus in their Club World Cup round of 16 tie on Monday, and they have been handed a boost ahead of that match at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. Xabi Alonso's side have had a solid tournament thus far, with wins against Pachuca and RB Salzburg, as well as a draw against Al Hilal. And they will be favourites to defeat Juventus and book their place in the quarter-finals, where they would face Borussia Dortmund or Sergio Ramos' Monterrey. Juventus to be without key defender against Real Madrid And Real Madrid's hopes of progression look to have been given a small, with MD reporting that Juventus will be without Nicolo Savono for the remainder of the Club World Cup. Nicolo Savona was injured against Manchester City (Image via Getty Images) Advertisement Savona suffered an ankle injury during Juventus' 5-2 defeat to Manchester City earlier this week, and the Italians have announced that 'diagnostic tests revealed a high-grade capsule ligamentous injury.' He is expected to miss two months, meaning that he would be absent for the start of the new Serie A season in August. Savona started all three of Juventus' matches in the Club World Cup group stages, but he will not be available against Real Madrid. It is a big blow for head coach Igor Tudor, who will have to turn to Gleison Bremer or Daniele Rugani instead. This news on Savona coincides with positive injury news for Real Madrid, with it looking increasingly likely that Kylian Mbappe will return for the round of 16 showdown in Miami. The Frenchman missed all three of Los Blancos' group stage matches due to illness, but he is back in training. Xabi Alonso is hopeful of having him available to face Juventus, although he would not be risked as a starter due to a lack of match sharpness.
