Unni Mukundan Denies Assault Claims, Says It's A Plot Against Friendship With Tovino
Last Updated: Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan is accused of abuse by former manager Vipin Kumar. Unni denies it though. Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan is facing accusations of physical and verbal abuse from his former manager. According to a report by Matrubhumi, Vipin Kumar, the ex-manager, has lodged a complaint with the Info Park Police in Kochi after receiving hospital treatment for his injuries. In the latest update, Unni Mukundan has denied all the claims. Speaking to Manorama Online, Mukundan confirmed visiting Vipin's flat in Kochi with a mutual friend, Vishnu Unnithan, but said their discussion happened in an area covered by CCTV. Unni accused Vipin of trying to damage his reputation and said he had gone there only to question him about it. 'Yes, I removed and broke his sunglasses, but I did not engage in any act that could be called physical assault," said Unni, adding, 'I personally called Tovino and explained the situation. We've been friends since we entered the industry and share a strong bond. No false rumour can destroy that friendship." Unni further claimed that he had asked Vipin to return passwords to his accounts and write an apology. He accused the former PR manager of blackmail and of taking undue credit during the promotions of Marco. Unni also alleged that several complaints have been made against Vipin within the film industry, including one by a female actor to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). After lodging a complaint with the Info Park police in Kochi, Vipin spoke to the media, saying, 'I did promotions for Tovino Thomas' Narivetta. I had posted praising the film, which Unni didn't like. He called me that night and asked me to stop working for him. I said okay." Vipin alleged that Unni called him to the parking area of his building on Monday, where the assault took place. According to the FIR, Unni allegedly punched him in the face, broke his sunglasses, and threatened to kill him. 'He beat me up after abusing me…I worked with him for six years. I am a PR consultant and work with other actors, he knows that. He's frustrated that he didn't get good films after Marco. Even Get Set Baby failed at the box office. He was supposed to direct a film, but Gokulam Movies withdrew. He is showing that frustration on the people around him. None of them are with him now. Even I have my limits," claimed Vipin. Theb charges against Unni range under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 296(b) (uttering obscene songs, ballads, or words in a public place), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 324(4) and 324(5) (causing loss or damage) of Bhariya Nayay Sanhitha (BNS). Ever since news broke on Monday evening that a police complaint was filed against actor Unni Mukundan by his former PR manager, Vipin Kumar, for alleged physical and verbal assault, the two have indulged in a he-said-he-said while talking to the media. After the manager claimed that Unni allegedly beat him up for praising Tovino Thomas' film, the actor denied all claims. 'I did promotions for Tovino Thomas' Narivetta. I had posted praising the film, which Unni didn't like. He called me that night and asked me to stop working for him. I said okay.' Vipin then claimed that Unni had asked him to come to the parking lot of his building on Monday, where he was assaulted. Unni also claimed that he asked Vipin to write an apology and return the passwords to his accounts. He also claims that the former PR manager was 'blackmailing' him and stealing 'credit' during Marco promotions. Unni alleged that there are numerous complaints against Vipin in the film industry, including one by a female actor to the ICC. Meanwhile, Tovino has not addressed the issue and is busy promoting his recent release Narivetta on social media.

Speaking to the media, he said that the actor has been frustrated for the past few months about not getting good films despite the success of 'Marco'. "I am a promotion consultant and I do PR for movies and many actors. I did promotions for Tovino Thomas's 'Narivetta'. I had posted [on social media] praising the film which Unni didn't like. He called me that night asking me to stop working for him as his manager. I said okay to it. I am not a paid manager. I am a PR consultant. I have worked for many films. He already knew that,' he further, he said, "I came to the parking area of the building where I stayed as he asked me to. He assaulted me after abusing me. I have been working with him for the last six years. He was frustrated recently as he didn't get good films after 'Marco'. His film 'Get Set Baby' failed at the box office. He is not getting films after that. He was planning to direct a movie which was to be produced by Gokulam movies. They withdrew from the project. He is now showing the frustration on people around him. None of them are with him now. I have limits listening to all of it,' Vipin Mukundan's 'Marco' tasted pan-Indian success. However, his next release, 'Get Set Baby' bombed at the box actor is yet to respond to the controversy.

Because of the performances and also because it is a technically good movie, the violence felt believable. I don't think the film became a hit just because of the violence.' The L2 Empuraan actor further mentioned, 'Any emotion, if it is conveyed effectively to the audiences, then the movie will be a success.' FIR lodged against Unni Mukundan for assaulting manager Fast forward to now, Unni Mukundan's manager has filed a complaint against him at the Infopark Station as well as the FEFKA. He claimed that the Marco actor was unhappy with the flat response for his film Get Set Baby and was sad that there were no further film offers coming his way. The actor has been known for his bad temper and behavioral issues, especially with his staff. The manager further added that Unni Mukundan physically assaulted and even threatened him for praising Narivetta on social media. Any further comment from the team of the Malayalam actor is yet to be made on the ongoing debate.
