Unni Mukundan Shelves Marco 2 Plans Due To 'Too Much Negativity'

News1815-06-2025
Unni didn't dodge it. In a candid reply, he wrote, 'Bro, apologies, but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I'll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers."
Take a look:
The original Marco, a gritty crime thriller, was a commercial success and had stirred buzz for a sequel. Helmed by director Haneef Adeni, the film stood out for its gripping narrative and striking visuals. But Marco also drew flak for its intense violence and morally ambiguous characters. The mixed reactions, especially the criticism over its dark tone, seem to have played a part in Unni Mukundan's decision to call off the sequel.
Veteran actor Jagadish, who portrayed the menacing antagonist Tony Isaac in Marco, had earlier weighed in on the controversy. At a press event, he said, 'The question is, do audiences like the character or Jagadish as a person? In Marco, my character supports violence. But does the audience like Tony Isaac or Jagadish? If it's Jagadish they like, then let me be clear, I have never spoken in favour of violence."
Marco is a 2024 Malayalam neo-noir action thriller directed and written by Haneef Adeni. Produced by Shareef Muhammed under the Cubes Entertainments banner, the film features Unni Mukundan in the lead as Marco Jr., a cold-blooded gangster raised by the feared Adattu crime family. The story kicks off after the violent death of his blind foster brother Victor, triggering Marco's brutal path of vengeance.
The film, a standalone spin-off of Mikhael, exists in the same universe, with some familiar characters placed in a new narrative. It also stars Siddique, Jagadish, Kabir Duhan Singh, Abhimanyu Shammi Thilakan, Anson Paul, Ishaan Shoukath, and Yukti Thareja in key roles. Gritty, violent, and stylized, Marco made waves for its dark themes and intense storytelling.
Meanwhile, Unni Mukundan was last seen in the comedy-drama Get Set Baby, directed by Vinay Govind.

Malayalam actor Rini Ann George spoke to the press in Kochi on Wednesday and alleged that a prominent youth leader from a well-known political party in Kerala has been inappropriate with her for three years now. She claimed to have complained to senior members of the party, only for them to ignore her pleas. Here's what she said. Malayalam actor Rini George has accused a young politician of propositioning her inappropriately. Rini Ann George claims political leader invited her to hotel room Rini addressed the media in Kochi on Wednesday and claimed, 'I came in contact with the politician through social media. His inappropriate behaviour began three years ago, when I first received objectionable messages from him. When I threatened to expose him, he said, you go tell anyone…who cares?' The actor also alleged that several other women have faced such harassment from him. 'I have not suffered any assault, but I have received such messages. He once said let's book a room in a five-star hotel, you should come. When I reacted strongly, there was no trouble for a while. But later, he began messaging me again,' she claimed. Not filing police complaint and speaking up now Rini also claims that she complained against him to senior members of his party, but instead of disciplinary action, he was given a prominent position. The actor, however, has not yet filed a police complaint against the politician. 'If I file a complaint, I will put myself in danger. That will be the only result. I urge women in the country to elect public representatives wisely,' she said. She also claimed she did not wish to 'embarrass' the political party involved. The actor also stated that she is only speaking up now because she realised more women have faced such harassment from the politician. 'Through my friends, I have learnt that several other women have faced harassment. I am speaking up for them.' Rini is known for appearing in several advertisements and the Malayalam film 916 Kunjoottan, which was released this year. With inputs from PTI

Mammootty's friend Sreeraman says he had difficulty walking, couldn't taste food when sick: ‘Recovery wasn't overnight'

Malayalam star Mammootty battled an unspecified illness earlier this year and revealed earlier this week that he was fully recovered. While the actor and his family have remained mum on what really happened to him, his friend, actor VK Sreeraman, spoke to Manorama News about what happened. Here's what he said. (Also Read: Mammootty's brother Ebrahimkutty moved by 'whole world' praying for star's recovery: 'Crossed vast sea of turmoil') Mammootty battled an unspecified illness earlier this year and revealed recently that he was fully recovered. VK Sreeraman on Mammootty's health Sreeraman told the publication that Mammootty received treatment for something and has lost his ability to taste and smell. He said, 'In the initial stages, when he called me, he said that food didn't taste good and he had difficulty walking. But he didn't talk of any of that as if it was of great importance.' Instead, the friends reportedly talked of everything from agriculture to the state of roads in Kerala and politics. The actor also revealed that when Mammootty called to tell him he had recovered, there was more relief than excitement in his voice. Mentioning that the star's recovery didn't happen overnight, Sreeraman said, 'He called and said he passed the test. There was no excitement, but I know he was relieved. Although I was happy, I didn't show it. I said I knew he could do it, and he called me a know-it-all.' According to Sreeraman, Mammootty is now waiting for the doctor's go-ahead to get back to work, as there's a risk of infection. Mammootty's health In March this year, rumours did the rounds that Mammootty had cancer and was taking a break from acting to recuperate. His friend Mohanlal also prayed at Sabarimala for his health. However, his team denied to MidDay that he had cancer. Later, MP John Brittas confirmed to Reporter TV that Mammootty was taking treatment for an illness, but called it a 'minor health issue' without revealing much. Mammootty's personal secretary George posted on his behalf on Instagram that he was now recovered.

Neelakuyil 4K restoration: The blue koel sings again

For both men, this evening was more than a screening. It was personal history entwined with cultural memory. 'I always say the only crime I have committed is acting in Neelakuyil,' Vipin said with a laugh, addressing the audience before the show began. 'I am the only one still alive from the cast and crew of Neelakuyil. I am alone here. After some time, I too will be gone and forgotten. But Neelakuyil will never be forgotten by the public. For me, this is something truly special.' His words carried a heavy resonance. A master cinematographer who would later shape Malayalam cinema's golden decades, he was reliving his very first tryst with the medium. As the child of Sathyan's and Miss Kumari's characters (Sreedharan Nair and Neeli), his presence on stage connected the present audience with a vanished era, reminding them that cinema, unlike lives, can defy mortality.
