Phillies star Bryce Harper activated from injured list ahead of Padres game

ryce Harper of the Philadelphia Phillies has been activated from the 10-day injured list. The two-time MVP has missed out on 22 matches for right wrist inflammation since June 6.
A good indicator came over the weekend when Harper, who joined the team at Atlanta, took some live batting practice on Saturday at Truist Park and appeared ready. Phillies manager Rob Thomson said to the Associated Press,
'He was great. Looked like he got his bat speed, and his timing looked fine.'

The 32-year-old Bryce Harper played in 57 games this season before his right wrist injury. Although he attempted to play through it for a while, the pain ultimately became too much, and he was placed on the injured list.
The Phillies went 12-9 without him, still afloat in the tightly packed waters of the National League.
Statistically, Bryce Harper has a respectable slashline of .258/ .368/ .446 this season with .814 OPS. He has 9 HRs, 34 RBIs, 13 doubles, 35 walks, 32 runs, and 8 steals in 253 plate appearances. And since the Phillies are in the midst of a gauntlet stretch that will make them face a significant number of teams still jockeying for playoff positioning, it was going to be so vital for the Phils to get him back into the lineup.

Roster move sees Buddy Kennedy designated for assignment
The Phillies removed infielder Buddy Kennedy to create space for Bryce Harper on the 26-man active roster. Kennedy, a South Jersey product from Millville, made just four appearances following his contract being selected on June 19. The 26-year-old had been tearing it up at Triple-A Lehigh Valley with a .283 average with 8 homers, 40 RBIs, and a .835 OPS in 61 games before his short major league promotion.

The Arizona Diamondbacks took Kennedy in 2017, and the Phillies traded for him from the Detroit Tigers in June 2024. He's not likely to be occupying a spot in Philadelphia for long, but based on how well he performed in the minors, he may have a permanent spot in the bigs in his future. Now, attention turns to Bryce Harper, making his return to Citizens Bank Park, where he will re-stabilize the Phillies lineup as the club opens an important game against the Padres.
