Chhava Sanghatna clash: Ex-NCP youth wing president Suraj Chavan surrenders before Latur police

NCP leader Suraj Chavan, who was on the run for the last three days after he allegedly thrashed Chhava Sanghatna state president Vijaykumar Ghatge, surrendered before Latur Police on Wednesday, an official said. He was issued a notice by the police and allowed to go, an official said, adding that Chavan and ten other accused would be called for questioning when needed. When contacted, Latur DySP Ranjeet Sawant said,'Chavan surrendered at Vivekanand police station in Latur today after he was booked under Section 118 (1) of BNS. Though the offence is cognisable as the punishment under it is less than seven years, he was not arrested. He was told to present himself before the police whenever needed for questioning.' He denied that there was any pressure on the police to go soft on the accused Chavan had resigned as the NCP's youth wing president on directions from the party head and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar amid outrage over the assault. Police said other accused in the case have also surrendered and told to present themselves when needed for questioning. Ghatge was thrashed by Chavan and other members of the NCP after he threw playing cards on the table in front of NCP state president Sunil Tatkare during his press conference on Sunday. Ghatge and other members of Chhava Sanghatna were demanding the resignation of state agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate after a video purportedly showing him playing 'rummy' on his mobile phone during the recently concluded monsoon session of the state legislature went viral. However, Kokate has denied the allegations. MNS leader Prakash Mahajan met Ghatge at a private hospital where he is undergoing treatment for injuries.

Kolhapur city struggle with water shortage for fourth day, KMC vows normal supply from today

Kolhapur: The city faced its fourth day of water cuts on Tuesday, prompting KMC to deploy 25 tankers to cater to the needs of the residents. KMC officials expect normal water supply to resume by early Wednesday morning. A software malfunction in the Variable Frequency Drive system at the Kalammawadi pumping station caused water supply disruptions. "KMC succeeded in fixing the fault in the software. The work was completed in a day by procuring the required material from Mumbai. After this, the installation work was completed at 2am on Tuesday and the water supply resumed smoothly. Low-pressure supply continued in the city on Tuesday. Regular water supply will resume from Wednesday morning," KMC water supply engineer Harshjit Ghatge said. During the repair period, water was supplied to the city through 25 tankers. "Four tankers of the municipal corporation and 21 private tankers were deployed during the period. Transformer work under the Shingnapur Water Supply Scheme also started from Tuesday," Ghatge said. Residents faced significant inconvenience due to the four-day water supply disruption . Suresh Oswal, a resident of Rajarampuri, said, "Water tankers are provided to slum pockets due to political pressure. But even after calling repeatedly, KMC water tanker didn't arrive at our place. We had to spend money on private tankers."
