Spring Re-Event held at the Sioux City Citizen's Convenience Center

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Spring time means spring cleaning. The city of Sioux City was here to help out with that chore on Saturday with their Spring Electronics Re-Event. The event was held at the Citizens Convenience Center on 28th Street, just off Highway 75. The center took in all electronics, batteries and lightbulbs to be recycled. The center also took in tires and mattresses. 'It's keeping our community clean, it's cheaper for our residents to dispose today,' said Arah Montagne, the Environmental Services and Program Development Manager for the City of Sioux City. 'We're recycling, we're doing our part. We're keeping it out of our landfills, cutting down on landfill fires. Gill Hauling is always a great supporter for us, and they help us out on this event as well and we just want to help them out too and keep those landfill fires down and recycle.' This event is held twice a year so if you missed the event Saturday, there will be another one the last weekend in September. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Sioux City Police Department invests in license plate reading cameras

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Since July of last year, the Sioux City Police Department has been using Flock LPR (License Plate Reader) cameras to aid in solving crimes. They are used in high-traffic areas to read license plates of cars to generate leads, find missing persons, and find crime suspects. Sioux City currently has eight Flock cameras, with four more going through the permitting process. They also have access to over 22,000 cameras across the country in the LPR network. Gill Hauling introduces new app for Sioux City residents 'A camera for one, in a way, is a camera for all,' police captain Ryan Bertrand said. 'We're able to share our cameras that we have in Sioux City, we can also have other law enforcement agencies that are also part of the LPR network share their cameras with us. So in effect, what that does is gives us the bang for the buck.' All the Flock cameras are solar-powered. Of the eight cameras, three are stationary and five can be moved to different locations.
