He has previously spoken of helping to raise Nestor Galban, who is now in his 20s and moved in with Gaetz when he was 12 years old after immigrating to the U.S. from Cuba. "He is a part of my family story," Gaetz told PEOPLE in 2020. "My work with Nestor, our family, no element of my public service could compare to the joy that our family has brought me." Gaetz did not formally adopt Nestor (and he declined to discuss Nestor's relationship with his biological family at the time of the interview). Nestor, he said, "is my son in every conceivable way, and I can't imagine loving him any more if he was my own flesh and blood." Gaetz has recently come under fire following the House Ethics Committee's bombshell report, made public in December 2024, claiming he paid for sex with a 17-year-old, in addition to illicit drug use and accepting improper gifts. Those claims also pushed him to withdraw his name from consideration for a position in President Donald Trump's cabinet as attorney general. Gaetz has consistently denied any wrongdoing at the time of publication. Just after his cabinet nomination, Gaetz resigned from his House seat. At the time, the House Ethics Committee was just weeks away from releasing the report. His resignation on Nov. 13 marked the end of his nearly eight-year tenure. Former Congressman Matt Gaetz and his wife Ginger Gaetz unveiled the unusual name for their newborn baby. The conservative couple sent out multiple social media posts on Wednesday morning showing off their baby boy. 'Beyond grateful to introduce our son,' Ginger wrote on X before revealing that his name was Luckey Louis Gaetz. Gaetz himself then responded to her post by writing, 'Baby Luck has landed.' The baby's name is similar to Ginger's maiden name 'Luckey.' In one post sent out by his wife, Gaetz is seen bringing the baby fresh from the hospital in a carrier seat with the caption 'DADDY.' A whole host of MAGA world personalities congratulated the happy couple, including Gaetz's former congressional colleague Florida Senator Rick Scott as well as Trump advisor Alex Bruesewitz. 'Children are a gift from God! Congrats, @mattgaetz and @GingerLGaetz,' Scott wrote. Back in June, the couple announced the pregnancy with a social media picture of them standing together showing off Ginger's baby bump while holding up a sonogram. In December 2020, Gaetz announced his engagement to Ginger before the couple officially married in southern California the next year. Gaetz's time in Congress was marred by controversy surrounding allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor and illicit drug use which he denies. Following Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 election, Gaetz was nominated as the president's pick for U.S. attorney general. However, a House Ethics Committee report on the misconduct allegations that had not been finalized before Gaetz resigned from Congress ultimately tanked his nomination. Moderate Republican senators vowed to not push him through confirmation, which ultimately led to Gaetz being shelved for Pam Bondi. Gaetz is known for famously ending the speakership of Kevin McCarthy after calling for a no confidence vote.

The former firebrand Florida Representative resigned from Congress last year after he was briefly nominated to serve as President Donald Trump 's attorney general following the 2024 presidential election. Gaetz's nomination was withdrawn by the White House after he received pushback from a number of senators, including members of his own party, who were irked by allegations he paid underage women for sex. Gaetz denied the claims and was never charged with a crime. In a text conversation with his mother which was filmed while Gaetz was on an airplane, the father-to-be revealed that he has a son on the way. 'I'm a happily married man with a son on the way, two penthouse condos, a 1:1 real estate asset to debt ratio' Gaetz wrote in one of the text. After Gaetz departed Congress, his seat was filled by former Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis. Ginger's sister Roxanne Luckey once described the former Florida congressman as 'weird and creepy' and said she was 'unfortunately not surprised' at his being investigated for sex crimes. In a string of TikTok videos, Roxanne criticized Gaetz, saying that she spent the summer of 2020 in Washington DC working as a White House intern, and was uncomfortable with him from the start. 'As someone who has personally experienced a ton of creepy old politician men hitting on me when I was underage, and experiencing sexual assault at that age by people of power, it's very disheartening,' she said. 'And I have zero tolerance of people like him.' She added that she is 'tired of them getting away with this type of stuff.'
