Malayalam film Premalu 2, starring Naslen and Mamitha Baiju, delayed. Here's why
Fans of Naslen and Mamitha Baiju-starrer 'Premalu', one of Malayalam cinema's most beloved romantic comedies in recent years, will have to wait a little longer for the sequel. Actor-director and co-producer of the film, Dileesh Pothan, confirmed in a recent interview that the follow-up to the 2024 blockbuster has been the sequel had been announced in April last year after the film's dream run at the box office, Pothan revealed that the team has not yet resumed work on the second part. During an interview with The Cue, Dileesh Pothan said, 'Our next immediate project won't be 'Premalu 2', it's another directorial venture of Girish AD.' He stated that the sequel is 'halted at the moment' and added that it is uncertain when the team will begin developing in early 2024, 'Premalu' took audiences by surprise with its heartwarming storytelling, quirky humour and fresh cast. The film follows the story of Sachin, a dejected engineering graduate from Kerala who fails to get a visa to move abroad. Instead, he shifts base to Hyderabad with a friend and ends up meeting Reenu, a new recruit at an IT company. Their journey through confusion, awkwardness, and youthful romance forms the crux of the film, with a cast of colourful supporting characters adding to the charm. Headlined by Naslen and Mamitha Baiju, 'Premalu' also stars Sangeeth Prathap, Akhila Bhargavan, Meenakshi Raveendran, Shyam Mohan and Mathew Thomas in pivotal roles. The film, backed by Fahadh Faasil, Dileesh Pothan and Syam Pushkaran, emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of the Malayalam industry in was last seen in the 2025 hit Malayalam film, 'Alappuzha Gymkhana', which released in theatres in April. He will be seen in the recently announced film, 'Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra'.Mamitha has an exciting line-up of upcoming films. After starring in 'Dude' opposite Pradeep Ranganathan, which is scheduled to release later this year, she will also be seen sharing screen space with Thalapathy Vijay in 'Jana Nayagan' and Suriya in Venky Atluri's 'Suriya 46'.
