AI represents the next big wave of opportunities: Bosch R&D Centre head
VISAKHAPATNAM: The young generation has immense potential to create new business opportunities using artificial intelligence, said Bosch Global Software Technologies R&D Centre head and vice president Naveed Narayan. During the ceremony, a total of 3,513 degrees were conferred upon graduates from a wide range of academic disciplines, including engineering, pharmacy, architecture, science, law, humanities, and management. This comprised 2,646 undergraduate, 723 postgraduate, and 144 PhD scholars. As many as 48 students were awarded gold medals. Senior faculty members Prof. P. Bharani Chandra Kumar and Dr. P Shanthi Latha received best researcher awards for their outstanding work. Delivering the graduation day address, Narayan said that the entire world is now looking towards India for solutions to complex problems, and it is the responsibility of the youth to recognise this and contribute to building a new India. Highlighting the historical evolution of technology, the Bosch Global Software Technologies R&D Centre head and vice president noted that every era has presented new opportunities, and today, AI represents the next big wave. He remarked that AI is not limited to engineers alone; professionals across all fields can harness its power to drive meaningful change. He also spoke about how factors such as demography, geopolitics, digital commerce, and AI are shaping India's future. While acknowledging concerns about job losses due to AI, he assured that new opportunities would emerge and advised students to shift their mindset from seeking long-term job security to becoming solution providers and job creators. Gitam pro vice-chancellor Prof. Y Gouthama Rao shared insights into the university's growth. He said that Gitam places high priority on quality education and a strong value system. The university has supported 120 student startups through its venture development centre and has seen strong placement success, with around 530 companies visiting the campus and 90% of students securing jobs. He also highlighted the faculty's achievements, stating that they are actively involved in 25 major research projects and have produced 208 patents. Prof. Rao congratulated all the graduating students for bringing laurels to the university. AP colleges embrace multidisciplinary edu
Visakhapatnam: Several degree colleges in Andhra Pradesh have recently begun integrating advanced courses into conventional degree curricula, offering them as minors or skill-based programmes. For example, a BSc student can now opt for minors or skill development courses such as fundamentals of economics, management, principles of accounting, public administration, entrepreneurship development, data analytics, and business writing. Similarly, Arts students have the option to choose from subjects like basic mathematics, statistics, principles of chemistry, and marketing skills. This marks a significant shift from previous norms, as until recently, such minor programs were primarily available only in engineering colleges. Colleges believe this transition not only fosters interdisciplinary learning but also significantly boosts employability by equipping students with practical, industry-relevant skills that go beyond their core subjects. Prof K Vedavathi, principal of the school of science at Gitam Deemed to be University, said the 11 BSc and 11 MSc programs, along with MCA and BCA courses offered at the school, are designed to empower students not only with deep subject knowledge but also with the flexibility and skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving global landscape. "This initiative represents a conscious move towards multidisciplinary education, which is expected to be a pathway to holistic development. Under the NEP-2020 framework, students enrolled in undergraduate science programs at Gitam have the unique opportunity to pursue minors in other disciplines. Students can select minors from a diverse array of disciplines and flexible liberal education courses, such as atmospheric physics, business analytics, quantum computing, and Carnatic vocal music. This broad-based approach not only expands intellectual horizons but also equips students with versatile skills that are crucial in today's dynamic job market It plays a vital role in nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability — qualities essential for both professional success and personal growth," Vedavathi explained. K Gunda Reddy, president of Andhra Pradesh private degree college managements association, noted that when the four-year honours program with a single major was introduced two years ago, guidelines were issued to ensure degree programs allowed students to focus on their chosen major while also pursuing minors and skill development programmes aligned with their interests.

GITAM holds spl graduation ceremony for int'l students
Visakhapatnam: Gitam Deemed to be University conducted its sixth special graduation ceremony for international students from Kenya, Rwanda, Bhutan, Nigeria, Nepal, Ethiopia, Uganda, and other nations. As many as 60 international students completed their academic programs in engineering, science, pharmacy, paramedical sciences, and management this year at Gitam. Addressing the gathering, registrar Prof D Gunasekharan highlighted the growing appeal of India's higher education system among international students. "India's educational landscape rich in diversity, culture, and history makes it a preferred global destination for academic pursuits. Education plays a critical role in fostering economic growth and development across nations," said Prof Gunasekharan. BARC to establish AKRUTI Kendra at Gitam University
Visakhapatnam: The Bhabha Atomic Research Centre ( BARC ), through its AKRUTI (Advanced Knowledge and Rural and Urban Technology Implementation) program, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Gitam Technology Enabling Centre (GTEC), Gitam Deemed to be University, Visakhapatnam. The collaboration aims to establish an AKRUTI Kendra on the Gitam campus, which will serve as a platform for technology translation and commercialisation, particularly for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and local industries. The MoU was exchanged between Gitam Registrar Dr. D Gunasekharan and department of atomic energy (DAE) technology transfer and collaboration division and public awareness and media interaction division head Daniel Babu in the presence of Gitam Vice-Chancellor Dr. Errol D'Souza, BARC technology transfer and collaboration division AKRUTI group leader Bharati A. Bhalera. GTEC coordinator Prof Raja P Pappu, Gitam distinguished professors Guraada Ravi Kumar and Venkata Rao Tata. The AKRUTI program, a flagship initiative by DAE-BARC, focuses on deploying advanced atomic research technologies for societal applications, particularly in rural and urban development.
