VISAKHAPATNAM: The young generation has immense potential to create new business opportunities using artificial intelligence, said Bosch Global Software Technologies R&D Centre head and vice president Naveed Narayan. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He was the chief guest at the 16th graduation ceremony of Gitam Deemed to be University, held on Saturday. During the ceremony, a total of 3,513 degrees were conferred upon graduates from a wide range of academic disciplines, including engineering, pharmacy, architecture, science, law, humanities, and management. This comprised 2,646 undergraduate, 723 postgraduate, and 144 PhD scholars. As many as 48 students were awarded gold medals. Senior faculty members Prof. P. Bharani Chandra Kumar and Dr. P Shanthi Latha received best researcher awards for their outstanding work. Delivering the graduation day address, Narayan said that the entire world is now looking towards India for solutions to complex problems, and it is the responsibility of the youth to recognise this and contribute to building a new India. Highlighting the historical evolution of technology, the Bosch Global Software Technologies R&D Centre head and vice president noted that every era has presented new opportunities, and today, AI represents the next big wave. He remarked that AI is not limited to engineers alone; professionals across all fields can harness its power to drive meaningful change. He also spoke about how factors such as demography, geopolitics, digital commerce, and AI are shaping India's future. Gitam president and Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharath reiterated the university's commitment to ethics and values, which serve to inspire the younger generation. While acknowledging concerns about job losses due to AI, he assured that new opportunities would emerge and advised students to shift their mindset from seeking long-term job security to becoming solution providers and job creators. Gitam pro vice-chancellor Prof. Y Gouthama Rao shared insights into the university's growth. He said that Gitam places high priority on quality education and a strong value system. The university has supported 120 student startups through its venture development centre and has seen strong placement success, with around 530 companies visiting the campus and 90% of students securing jobs. He also highlighted the faculty's achievements, stating that they are actively involved in 25 major research projects and have produced 208 patents. Prof. Rao congratulated all the graduating students for bringing laurels to the university. GITAM vice-president Prof M Gangadhara Rao, secretary M Bharadwaja, vice-chancellor Prof. Errol D'Souza, registrar Dr D Gunasekharan, deans, directors, governing body members participated in the graduation ceremony. Visakhapatnam: Gitam Deemed to be University conducted its sixth special graduation ceremony for international students from Kenya, Rwanda, Bhutan, Nigeria, Nepal, Ethiopia, Uganda, and other nations. As many as 60 international students completed their academic programs in engineering, science, pharmacy, paramedical sciences, and management this year at Gitam. Addressing the gathering, registrar Prof D Gunasekharan highlighted the growing appeal of India's higher education system among international students. "India's educational landscape rich in diversity, culture, and history makes it a preferred global destination for academic pursuits. Education plays a critical role in fostering economic growth and development across nations," said Prof Gunasekharan. GITAM School of Pharmacy principal Prof Srinivas urged graduates to apply their acquired knowledge towards the development of human capital in their home countries. He encouraged them to pursue research-oriented careers to better serve society.
