Billie Eilish Ties A Very Important Record — But Can She Go All The Way?
Billie Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather' rules the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart for a ... More thirty-seventh week, tying the second-longest reign in the ranking's history. HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA - MARCH 10: Billie Eilish attends the 96th Annual Academy Awards on March 10, 2024 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by) Billie Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather' has become one of the most successful rock and alternative singles in recent memory, at least in terms of how long it's held on inside the upper reaches of a number of charts. The Grammy-nominated smash has been holding court on a number of Billboard rankings for nearly a year, and while it's still a win, it has already solidified its place in history. This frame, the cut manages a very impressive feat once again, as Eilish extends a reign that's already pushed the title into rarefied territory. 'Birds of a Feather' is steady at No. 1 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart once more. That's a position it has rarely relinquished since it debuted. The track has now ruled the tally for 37 weeks. For context, it's only spent 48 total frames on the ranking. The tune has been one of the most consumed rock and alternative releases in the U.S. for months on end. Whether via streaming, sales, or airplay, 'Birds of a Feather' continues to perform like a brand new single, even though it's been charting for close to a year. 'Birds of a Feather' is now tied as the second-longest-running No. 1 in the history of the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart. It sits alongside 'Heat Waves' by Glass Animals, which also managed 37 weeks in the penthouse not long ago. That track went on to become a defining hit of its own era, and one that helped the group become breakout stars, if only for a time. At this point, 'Birds of a Feather' looks like it's ready to keep going, and there's a decent chance it might rule for several more weeks…but whether it can actually match the all-time record is a little harder to predict. Panic! At the Disco's 'High Hopes' is still the song to beat, with a staggering 65-week reign. That remains one of the longest runs at No. 1 on any Billboard chart. Eilish's current total only covers a bit more than half of that chart-topping span – still, she's closer than almost anyone else has ever gotten. This week, 'Birds of a Feather' isn't just ruling the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, it's also leading two other Billboard tallies. The composition is in charge of both the Hot Alternative Songs and the Alternative Streaming Songs rankings again. Beyond those three No. 1s, the cut also remains inside the top 10 on six additional Billboard lists. The single is just a few weeks away from celebrating a full year on each of those rankings, and it will almost certainly reach that milestone with ease…and then keep on charting.
