Glastonselfy festival announces end after 10 years of joy

The festival began in 2015 to honour Leanne, a special friend of organizer Jayne Jeremiah. Leanne had been diagnosed with terminal cancer and desperately wanted to attend Glastonbury festival but was worried that she wouldn't be well enough to attend. So, Jayne made the decision to bring Glastonbury to her and organised a small festival for around 150 people in a local rugby club so that she could attend her own version of the world-famous festival. Since its inception Glastonselfy has grown rapidly, with this year's event taking over Crosskeys Rugby Club for two days of live music and fun for all ages. It quickly became a staple for communities to attend, with some travelling from afar to show their faces at the well-loved festival. Since 2015, the festival has raised thousands for charity, benefitting those in need in the local community. It has run as an entirely charitable event since it began, raising thousands for local causes in the process. This year alone the festival raised £13,400 for local alternative education provider Wellies Farm, bringing the total raised over the last decade to almost £60,000. In it, Jayne thanks those who brought their talents to the stage, the venues the festival was lucky enough to call home, friends, family, photographers, and her incredible 'Selfy Squad' of volunteers – without them, the festival would never have happened. Jayne also expressed her gratitude to Leanne's family. She said: 'To Leanne's family for allowing me the honour of remembering her with the festival for over the last decade this will be her forever legacy. The final Glastonselfy took over Crosskeys RFC for a full weekend (Image: Delwyn Edwards) 'Leanne, I hope I did you proud.' 'All good things have to come to an end, I guess, but what an ending we had in 2025 - we certainly went out with a big bang.' A huge hole will be left in the community with the end of Glastonselfy, but there is no doubt that many will look back and smile at the cherished memories that were made by attending.

Glastonselfy festival celebrates 10 years in style

In 2015, festival organizer Jayne Jeremiah's 'special friend' was diagnosed with terminal cancer. She had wanted to go to Glastonbury but was worried that she wouldn't be well enough to attend. So, Jayne brought Glastonbury to her and organised a festival for 150 people in a local ruby club, so that she wouldn't have to miss out. Unfortunately, her friend would pass away before the festival could be held but Jayne decided to go ahead with it, to honour her memory. It's now a two-day event held in Crosskeys Rugby Club and takes over the entire pitch and club for the weekend. Complete with stalls, bars, two stages for live music, and a range of other activities for the entire family to enjoy, it quickly became a staple for those in the community to attend. Jayne said: 'I still don't believe that people want to come year after year. Even when times are tough, like now, they still make the effort to come.' Every year, the festival boasts a variety of music and tribute acts across two stages, crafts stalls, bars, impersonators, a total wipeout course, a rodeo bull and an animal event for children to get up close and personal with critters. Even the rain on Friday night wouldn't stop the partygoers, as they danced the night away in ponchos at the 80s party. Made up of friends and family, they book time off work and give up their weekend to help Jayne get the festival up and running smoothly. Jayne says that without them, the weekend wouldn't be possible. The festival runs purely as a charitable event, supporting local charity Wellies Farm. The charity is an alternative education provider, specialising in giving children and young adults with additional learning needs and behavioural issues the support they need to thrive and learn outdoors, as 'not all classrooms have four walls'. Jayne first met the leaders of Wellies Farm at Izzyfest, a similar festival that was named for 17-year-old Izzy Withers on the same field that Glastonselfy takes place on today. Glastonselfy's yellow wellies are a staple of the festival (Image: Delwyn Edwards) Jayne and her special friend both had a love for yellow wellies, so when Jayne found Wellies Farm at the event and saw their incredible logo it was a match made in heaven, and they have supported one another ever since. Their bright yellow wellies have now become a staple across the festival, with other items joining in the fun and getting adorned with colourful dots, becoming the image of Glastonselfy. Jayne said: 'I won't lie, I stood back on Friday night and I shed a tear. 'It's bittersweet because if she'd never passed away then this would never have happened.'
