Suspect arrested with R4m worth of dagga
A man was on Tuesday arrested in Dundee for dealing in dagga after he was found in possession of 90 bags of compressed dagga.
SAPS spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the arrest comes after the police had gathered intelligence about a vehicle that was spotted entering the country, from Eswatini via Paulpietersburg, with a load of dagga.
'Proactive police officers from Glencoe K9 unit, Zululand District Task Team, as well as Dundee Crime Prevention members operationalised the information, and the vehicle matching the description was spotted on the R33 driving towards Blood River.
'Members attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away. A chase ensued, and the police managed to stop the vehicle in Dundee. Upon searching the vehicle, police found compressed bags of dagga on the passenger seat, the back seat, as well as in the boot.
'A total of 90 bags full of dagga, with an estimated street value of R4-million, were seized. The suspect (32) was subsequently arrested and charged with dealing in dagga. He is expected to appear at the Dundee Magistrate's Court soon,' said Ngcobo.
