Suspect arrested with R4m worth of dagga
SAPS spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the arrest comes after the police had gathered intelligence about a vehicle that was spotted entering the country, from Eswatini via Paulpietersburg, with a load of dagga.
'Proactive police officers from Glencoe K9 unit, Zululand District Task Team, as well as Dundee Crime Prevention members operationalised the information, and the vehicle matching the description was spotted on the R33 driving towards Blood River.
'Members attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped away. A chase ensued, and the police managed to stop the vehicle in Dundee. Upon searching the vehicle, police found compressed bags of dagga on the passenger seat, the back seat, as well as in the boot.
'A total of 90 bags full of dagga, with an estimated street value of R4-million, were seized. The suspect (32) was subsequently arrested and charged with dealing in dagga. He is expected to appear at the Dundee Magistrate's Court soon,' said Ngcobo.

Armed robbery suspects nabbed after shootout in Groenkloof
Two robbery suspects were arrested on Saturday evening after a shootout with security officers in Groenkloof ended in a vehicle crash. Emergency Medical Solutions (EMS) spokesperson Dean Slater said the incident took place around 19:00 on August 9 on George Storrar Avenue. He explained that security officers were pursuing the suspects when the suspects became aware of the officers, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. 'One suspect was hit in the chest during the shootout, and the vehicle they were in crashed shortly afterwards,' said Slater. EMS paramedics arrived at the scene and treated the wounded suspect for a gunshot wound to the chest. Slater stated that the suspect was then transported to a nearby medical facility under the care of an emergency care practitioner, with police maintaining a guard during the transfer. 'The second suspect was taken into police custody at the scene and was not injured,' he added. Slater confirmed that both suspects are now in custody and that EMS worked closely with law enforcement throughout the incident. The Limpopo police spokesperson, Col Malesela Ledwaba, said an argument allegedly broke out, during which the husband took a service firearm and shot her in the upper body. 'When he attempted to run to the vehicle to flee the scene, the community who observed the entire incident chased and assaulted him, setting him alight next to his vehicle. The vehicle was burnt beyond recognition,' his statement read. Ledwaba said both the female sergeant and her husband died at the scene. The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, expressed shock at the tragedy and urged SAPS members to seek professional help for domestic disputes rather than resorting to violence. 'The SAPS has in place an Employee Health and Wellness Programme that is offered free of charge. We call upon members to make use of these services that are at their disposal,' she said. Ledwaba said cases of murder have been opened and urge anyone with information to contact Detective Sergeant Stanley Chauke on 072 554 3141, the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111, or via the MySAPSApp. 'Investigations continue,' he concluded.
