Glenda Gilson defends pal Louis Walsh after backlash from Boyzone documentary
Former Xpose star Glenda Gilson has defended Louis Walsh against backlash after Sky's documentary, Boyzone: No Matter What. Following the release of Sky's docu-series Boyzone: No Matter What, the music manager was criticised for his treatment of the hit boyband. Glenda – who has been a long-time friend of Louis' as well as Boyzone star Keith Duffy – responded to the criticism the former X Factor judge received. The former Xpose star said: "Well, I'm on two sides there, because I'm great pals with the lads as well. Keith Duffy would be a good friend of mine, but Louis is my pal. I could see two sides of it. I could totally see it. "Louis got them headlines they never would have gotten in their life. But I see the way Louis works. We all know you take it with a pinch of salt, and it's also edited. Chop a few words out of a sentence, and it sounds totally different." The Dubliner, from Castleknock, also spoke about Louis being on Celebrity Big Brother, saying she thinks he found it "tough" being stuck in the house. "I just remember watching him laughing, you know, when you know someone. But I thought he was brilliant. I thought he did all the interviewing, like Kate Middleton's own brother… He (Louis) did the interview, and he asked the questions we all wanted to know. "But I'd say that was tough for him, like it has to be tough for a man of his age, a man that's so used to having his own privacy and then being in Big Brother…" Last year, the Mayo native revealed he had been diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer, which he identified as 'Waldenström'. Asked how Louis is doing since his blood cancer diagnosis, she said in jest: "He's good. It's Louis, you can't kill a bad thing." Glenda, who is married to businessman Rob MacNaughton stepped back from the spotlight over the last few years to raise her two sons, Bobby and Danny. But the Dubliner admitted she would like to make a return to TV at some point. "I don't know (when I will). At least this year, my two kids will be on the same school run, school time, I feel like I get a bit of my life back. But I told my life is their life, if you know what I mean. So I want to be there for pickups, collection, all that I do to dabble in and out of work. "I love people, and I love talking to people. I love having the craic. That was what I was all about. I love communicating with people. I love people. So anything that gets me doing that. "I mean, people said to me, 'are you writing a book?' And I'm like, 'No, I'd have to die the next day.' And then I tell them a few stories, and they're like, 'Glenda, write the book.' But I'd have to seriously die the next day." But she said taking a step back to raise her kids was the best decision she ever made. "Probably, and it was at a time when everything changed as well, like Xpose, you couldn't see around today. It wouldn't be around today. You couldn't do what we did, just with everything. "You know, the way life is. But so, yeah, time changed for a reason, I think. "And you know, I was a child model. I was modelling at three years of age, I was always working so and I always said my mom was always at home for me and picked me up from school and was always there. "So it was kind of what I was used to. I wanted to do that, and I've been afforded to do that right now."

Emmerdale and Corrie fans 'rumble crossover' and which characters will meet
Viewers of Emmerdale and Coronation Street are predicting what leads to the big crossover next year on the ITV soaps, and which characters will end up meeting each other Soap fans are guessing what leads to the big Emmerdale and Coronation Street crossover in a soap first, after ITV's announcement. Next year in a soap first, both soaps will merge for one night only for a full hour-long episode. Not only that, but the events of the episode will pave the way for each soap's future storylines in the fallout. While the episode will be self-contained, meaning the episodes before and after won't directly link to or follow on from what goes on in the special episode, it has been confirmed whatever goes on will have an impact on both shows. It's thought one character from each soap will meet and share scenes together. Exact details have yet to be confirmed about what sets up the crossover, what happens in each fictional location in the episode and what the "ambitious stunt" is that bosses are planning. It's been said the soap's bosses have come together with a "genius" way to bring the shows together, crossing over. The events of the big episode will impact all those involved and both shows going forward, with "everlasting" consequences. Afterwards, the soaps will both return to their new normal pattern of transmission. The communities of both soaps will be forever linked, and it's been confirmed that familiar faces depart in the scenes and exciting new characters arrive into both soaps. Fans will be even more thrilled to learn that they'll be able to have their say in the outcome of the soap, as ITV announced they'll be able to choose one character from each soap who they would like to see meet, and interact, in a scene. Details of this initiative are set to be released next month via both soaps Insta, Facebook and TikTok accounts. Now, fans are predicting the two characters that will meet up and share a scene together. Ahead of the details surrounding the storyline, the stunt and the crossover plans, fans are also thinking they know what big storyline could come out of the episode. There's obviously the stunt, with it not clear if both Weatherfield and Emmerdale will have stunts unfolding, or if it will be in one location. Perhaps there's more than one stunt, or maybe more characters will feature across both locations. But fans are already guessing, or hoping, that it will be Mandy Dingle from the Dales and Corrie's Glenda Shuttleworth who will team up for the scene. Fans want the Rovers barmaid and Mandy to feature together either as new friends or even in a catfight. One fan said online: "Mandy and Glenda need to meet," as another said: "Mandy and Glenda." A third fan commented: "Mandy having a bar fight with Glenda," while another wrote: "Can't help thinking Glenda and Mandy would be a laugh." A further theory read: "MANDY DINGLE AND GLENDA SHUTTLEWORTH BESTIE ERA I JUST KNOW IT." As for the storyline fans had other ideas. Some viewers thought one character from each soap will sleep together leading to the first ever crossover baby, while some fans questioned if a couple on Corrie could help a former Emmerdale couple reunite amid rumours. One fan said: "Right who's getting pregnant then???! First ever crossover baby." On the latter theory, a fan said: "WAIT THERE'S ACTUALLY GOING GO BE AN EMMERDALE / CORRIE CROSSOVER?????? WHEN SWARLA ARE THE CATALYST FOR VANITY GETTING BACK TOGETHER THEN WHAT."

ITV Coronation Street legend to return 60 years on after Rovers takeover
Coronation Street fans believe Glenda Shuttleworth will soon be getting a new love interest in the form of a returning character Coronation Street fans are buzzing with speculation about a potential new romance for Glenda Shuttleworth, portrayed by Jodie Prenger. There's also excitement brewing at the prospect of a returning soap legend. Glenda made her debut in Weatherfield back in 2022 as the daughter of soap legend Archie Shuttleworth (Roy Hudd) and sister to George (Tony Maudsley), the local undertaker. The Rovers Return barmaid quickly won over viewers and has been at the centre of numerous major storylines over the years. From an unexpected break-in at the Rovers to a family feud over the Shuttleworth empire, Glenda's life has been far from peaceful recently. This week on the ITV soap, Glenda was overjoyed to become the new manager of the Rovers Return. As fans will recall, Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) had to give up control of the iconic pub after failing to repay Carla Connor (Alison King), who decided to sell it, reports Belfast Live. As a result, Jenny ended her stint at the Rovers and has since found work at The Kabin. In Monday's episode which aired on May 12, with Jenny no longer at the helm, Carla offered the managerial role to Ryan (Ryan Prescott), who had just accepted a job with Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney). Carla then selected Brenda for the position, much to her delight. She immediately got stuck in, performing several songs for the pub-goers later on. Coronation Street viewers are abuzz with rumours about Glenda's love life, surmising that her burgeoning career suggests romance is on the horizon. On a fan forum dedicated to the soap, spectators have been eagerly speculating who Glenda could be entangled with next. One fan couldn't contain their delight: "It's about time Glenda is having a storyline, always liked her. All she needs now is some romance!" The comments section ignited with viewers proposing Chris Gascoyne's character Peter Barlow as a fitting match. Prognoses were shared with certainty: "Peter Barlow! They would be good together." Another added with gusto: "Yeah, he could come back and help her run the Rovers." Additionally, one fan was daring in their assertion: "He used to run it back in the day so never say never.." Renowned character Peter, who originally set foot on the scene in 1965 and springs from the iconic Ken (portrayed by William Roache), has played pivotal roles in numerous key story arcs within the soap. Records show his most recent appearance occurred in 2023. Meanwhile, A devastating Coronation Street death might be looming next week, with Craig Tinker set to depart the ITV soap following a "vicious attack". Colson Smith, who has played Craig for over ten years, had his upcoming exit confirmed earlier this year after it was revealed last autumn that his character would be written out. Recent rumours have speculated that Craig could meet a tragic end, a prospect now seemingly supported by forthcoming spoilers, new images, and a tantalising trailer. While fans will undoubtedly hope for Craig's survival and wish to see him leave Weatherfield unscathed, it has been officially announced that the beloved character will suffer severe injuries, leaving him in a critical condition. As the plot line involving Kit Green and antagonist Mick Michaelis escalates, the unfortunate Craig may be collateral damage, with others also at risk.

Coronation Street fans 'work out new owner of The Rovers' after cryptic spoiler
Coronation Street viewers think they know which character will become the new landlady of The Rovers pub which remains up for sale on the ITV soap, currently owned by Carla Connor There could be a new owner of The Rovers on Coronation Street very soon. New spoilers have left fans convinced one character in particular will be eyeing up the place after a clue. The pub is currently run by Jenny Connor with the help of her stepdaughter Daisy Midgeley. But when it emerged that the money the pair used to buy the pub came from Stephen Reid's account after he'd stolen it from Carla Connor, Carla was furious and demanded the money back. She made it clear that until they paid up the pub was now hers, and she was the owner. Carla has given them months to pay up to which they have not, and Carla recently confirmed she would need to sell the pub for the money after drama with her partner Lisa Swain and Lisa's daughter Betsy. Jenny was keen to become the official owner again and buy it from Carla, telling Carla to give her priority when selling. But with Jenny's money now at risk amid Daisy's scheming with her mum Christina Boyd and mystery Dom, who is faking a romance with Jenny to get her to invest with him, there's every chance someone else will be the buyer. Spoilers for next week certainly tease someone doesn't want the place to sell. READ MORE: Coronation Street character found dead in heartbreaking twist as fans left 'furious' In episodes next week, Glenda Shuttleworth makes it her mission to stop the sale when some potential buyers come looking around the pub. She sparks suspicions with Carla's nephew Ryan Connor who decides to keep an eye on her. As the potential new owners look about the place, Glenda tries to put them off and it's clear she doesn't want Carla accepting any offers. So what is she up to, and why is she sabotaging the sale? Could it be out of loyalty to Jenny, or perhaps fears she may lose her job? Could it be an ulterior motive, and might she be trying to get the pub herself? Fans certainly think so, believing the spoilers might be a hint that Glenda herself may try to buy the famous pub and be the next Rovers landlady. Taking to social media, they shared their thoughts that this might be her big plan, and they loved it. One viewer shared of their prediction about Glenda being the new owner: "Maybe Glenda takes on a secret buyer and Glenda and Eva share ownership of the Rovers." Another fan said: "I think maybe Glenda and George could end up owning the Rovers." A third viewer commented: "I need the gorg Glenda to be actual landlady." A further comment suggested: "Hmm, Glenda putting prospective buyers off, I wonder if she might buy it!" Another viewer said of the spoiler: "What is Glenda doing putting off buyers? Does she wanna be on Carla's 'Get out' list next." Viewers will have to tune in next week to find out what Glenda is up to and whether she will be caught out.

Nigel Farage will be delighted with free publicity from John Swinney
The excellent letter by Glenda Burns from Glasgow of April 24 'nailed' the sentiments of many in the self-determination movement as she cast both a sceptical and derisory eye on the literally self-appointed political equivalent of an early reformation 'kirk session'. I refer of course to Mr Swinney's convention of the usual 'outrage' enthusiasts to establish a resistance group to deal with the Reform UK party which everybody and their auntie these days erroneously associates with skinhead white supremacists. READ MORE: John Swinney: Labour austerity is feeding rise of far right in UK Firstly let me say I am, like Glenda, an inheritor of the values and aspirations of the last 100 years of the Scottish emancipation movement and as such not a member or supporter of Reform UK. The 'rag tag assembly' appears not yet to have understood a fundamental law law of psychology, namely 'what we resist, persists' and the marketing aphorism that there is 'no such thing as bad publicity'. Farage must be delighted with their efforts! If these FM-appointed anti-fascist warriors turned all of their daily publicly funded efforts to providing the antidotes for those aspects of modern pseudo-democracy which have led to the conception and growth of Reform UK, we would be saved from threat of the 'fascism' that they fear. There are many 'salt of the earth' decent Scottish and English citizens not aligned with the 'woke' neoliberal 'I am alright Jack' beneficiaries of the political corporate alliance that the Labour Party, Tory party and, yes, the current SNP leadership pay court to. READ MORE: What did we learn from John Swinney's anti-far-right summit? There is an emergent demographic in Scotland who are literally desperate to find wholehearted and competent advocates to address threadbare public services, deteriorating public mental and metabolic health, crap housing, a precarious life of non-unionised labour and not least the erosion of the sense of belonging to a 'common weal' cultural identity as opposed to the failing union status quo. Many good folk have been forced to look beyond the 'business as usual' two-party system towards Reform. If we want rid of the spectre of Reform UK, we need to take them at their word and put all of our popular and political efforts into doing do just that! That is the 'reformation' of the British Isles into a new union of autonomous 'independent' nations whose citizens enjoy the direct democratic participation and sovereignty that will end the electoral and colonial aristocracy that has allowed and participated in the exploitation and immiseration of our people. When will we ever again see a SNP leadership and grassroots membership that will 'cross the rubicon' and deliver what our children and grandchildren deserve and our grandsires demand rather than form little 'concerned' committees of salaried hysterics with those who do not share their vision. Thanks, Glenda. Dr Andrew Docherty Selkirk I REFER to your article titled 'Scottish schools must have single-sex toilets, judge orders' (Apr 24). Firstly, are we really saying that primary-age pupils of different sexes cannot share the use of the same toilet cubicle? I bet they do at home and in many restaurants, on a plane and at events. Secondly, why are we getting hung up on shared use of toilets? As long as the users have privacy and are unhindered in their use of the facility, I see no problem. Donald MacKay Crossford, Fife
