Young footballers from Cape Town shine at Sweden international tour
The Dream Possible team with their parents and guardians Image: Ayanda Ndamane Young footballers from Cape Town's Life Zone Soccer International have returned home in triumph after completing their three-week Dream Possible Tour in Sweden — a journey that has once again showcased the extraordinary talent emerging from under-resourced communities. As part of their ninth international tour, Life Zone's Under-12 boys and girls squads represented South Africa at two prestigious tournaments abroad. The boys team made history by claiming gold in the Piteå Summer Games, going undefeated throughout the tournament. Their momentum continued in the Storsjöcupen, hosted in Östersund, where they placed second overall. The girls squad put in a spirited performance, advancing to the quarter-finals. Coach Jeremy Wyngaard, founder and head of Life Zone Soccerl, said the Dream Possible Tour is a culmination of hard work, sacrifice, and a community united by belief. "This is our 9th tour to Sweden. The kids are from some of the schools that we work in Kensington, Factreton, Heideveld, communities associated with being underprivileged, yet there is so much talent. That is why it's so important to firstly acknowledge the parents and the grandparents who work hard throughout the year to raise funds." Life Zone Soccer International, a grassroots development initiative, has defied the odds since its inception."At first people told us we are crazy, we not going to make it with the touring idea, and look now, we just came back from our ninth tour, in victorious fashion," Wyngaard said proudly. He believes that the Dream Possible Tour is more than just a sports outing — it's a launchpad for long-term change. "Many of these players have the ability to make it very far, even internationally. All it takes is the support and constant building of character and skill set. It is possible, dreams are possible." Proud mom Glenda with her son Vellentino Dolan Image: Ayanda Ndamane That belief rings true for Francois 'Faffa' October, whose son Samuel was part of the gold-winning boys team. "Samuel has been playing soccer since seven years old. I don't know where he got his talent from, certainly not from me, but he's definitely got a skill set," he joked. October recounted the moment the boys were crowned champions in Sweden. "We had a WhatsApp group and it just went crazy — our boys, Capetonians, South Africans placed first in Sweden! I am overwhelmed with pride." Among the standout players was Vellentino Dolan, the youngest on the squad and the team's top scorer with more than 40 goals out of 129. "I don't even have words to explain how proud I am of not only Vellentino but the team. But my son, wow, he is showing that anything is possible, so his dream of playing internationally one day is very much possible," said his mother, Glenda Dolan. Glenda, who works full-time, saved every month to make the tour a reality."He is just so good, he made it worthwhile. I am proud to call him my boy." When asked about his goal-scoring secret, 11-year-old Vellentino, a striker and die-hard Liverpool fan, said softly: "Before I score, I run and pray. I just pray, then I score." Coronation Street fan-favourite to stay on show as star signs new contract
Another Coronation Street favourite's future on the cobbles has been confirmed, with the star having signed a new contract to stay in the cast. Glenda Shuttleworth (Jodie Prenger) has quickly become a fan-favourite with her outgoing nature behind the Rovers bar, with her penchant for karaoke bringing joy to viewers. In recent weeks, her antics have become even more outrageous since being made manager of the local boozer. Though the Rovers is still on the market with owner Carla Connor (Alison King) having yet to find a buyer, Glenda's future on the cobbles has been confirmed. 'I've just re-signed my contract! The poor things have got stuck with me for another year!' Jodie told Bella Magazine. 'I'm thrilled. I love it there. I used to always say to my agent, 'Would you ask if I can be on Corrie?' 'I was that crazy person outside, pitched in a tent, wanting to get in – and now I'm in!' Metro has reached out to Coronation Street for comment. Glenda first appeared on our screens in 2022, arriving on Coronation Street after working as an entertainer on a cruise ship. As the sister of George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) she quickly found her place among the locals and settled in behind the bar of the Rovers. However, she didn't entirely leave her entertaining background behind, as she purchased a franchise of theatre school Little Big Shotz in 2023. More recently, she embarked on a brief romance with Michael Bailey (Ryan Russell), and was left terrified after being attacked during a break-in at the pub. More Trending She also found herself at odds with brother George after learning that she had inherited half of the family business. Prior to taking on the role of Glenda, Jodie had an illustrious stage career, after winning the reality TV series I'd Do Anything. Glenda Gilson defends pal Louis Walsh after backlash from Boyzone documentary
Former Xpose star Glenda Gilson has defended Louis Walsh against backlash after Sky's documentary, Boyzone: No Matter What. Following the release of Sky's docu-series Boyzone: No Matter What, the music manager was criticised for his treatment of the hit boyband. Glenda – who has been a long-time friend of Louis' as well as Boyzone star Keith Duffy – responded to the criticism the former X Factor judge received. The former Xpose star said: "Well, I'm on two sides there, because I'm great pals with the lads as well. Keith Duffy would be a good friend of mine, but Louis is my pal. I could see two sides of it. I could totally see it. "Louis got them headlines they never would have gotten in their life. But I see the way Louis works. We all know you take it with a pinch of salt, and it's also edited. Chop a few words out of a sentence, and it sounds totally different." The Dubliner, from Castleknock, also spoke about Louis being on Celebrity Big Brother, saying she thinks he found it "tough" being stuck in the house. "I just remember watching him laughing, you know, when you know someone. But I thought he was brilliant. I thought he did all the interviewing, like Kate Middleton's own brother… He (Louis) did the interview, and he asked the questions we all wanted to know. "But I'd say that was tough for him, like it has to be tough for a man of his age, a man that's so used to having his own privacy and then being in Big Brother…" Last year, the Mayo native revealed he had been diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer, which he identified as 'Waldenström'. Asked how Louis is doing since his blood cancer diagnosis, she said in jest: "He's good. It's Louis, you can't kill a bad thing." Glenda, who is married to businessman Rob MacNaughton stepped back from the spotlight over the last few years to raise her two sons, Bobby and Danny. But the Dubliner admitted she would like to make a return to TV at some point. "I don't know (when I will). At least this year, my two kids will be on the same school run, school time, I feel like I get a bit of my life back. But I told my life is their life, if you know what I mean. So I want to be there for pickups, collection, all that I do to dabble in and out of work. "I love people, and I love talking to people. I love having the craic. That was what I was all about. I love communicating with people. I love people. So anything that gets me doing that. "I mean, people said to me, 'are you writing a book?' And I'm like, 'No, I'd have to die the next day.' And then I tell them a few stories, and they're like, 'Glenda, write the book.' But I'd have to seriously die the next day." But she said taking a step back to raise her kids was the best decision she ever made. "Probably, and it was at a time when everything changed as well, like Xpose, you couldn't see around today. It wouldn't be around today. You couldn't do what we did, just with everything. "You know, the way life is. But so, yeah, time changed for a reason, I think. "And you know, I was a child model. I was modelling at three years of age, I was always working so and I always said my mom was always at home for me and picked me up from school and was always there. "So it was kind of what I was used to. I wanted to do that, and I've been afforded to do that right now."

Emmerdale and Corrie fans 'rumble crossover' and which characters will meet
Viewers of Emmerdale and Coronation Street are predicting what leads to the big crossover next year on the ITV soaps, and which characters will end up meeting each other Soap fans are guessing what leads to the big Emmerdale and Coronation Street crossover in a soap first, after ITV's announcement. Next year in a soap first, both soaps will merge for one night only for a full hour-long episode. Not only that, but the events of the episode will pave the way for each soap's future storylines in the fallout. While the episode will be self-contained, meaning the episodes before and after won't directly link to or follow on from what goes on in the special episode, it has been confirmed whatever goes on will have an impact on both shows. It's thought one character from each soap will meet and share scenes together. Exact details have yet to be confirmed about what sets up the crossover, what happens in each fictional location in the episode and what the "ambitious stunt" is that bosses are planning. It's been said the soap's bosses have come together with a "genius" way to bring the shows together, crossing over. The events of the big episode will impact all those involved and both shows going forward, with "everlasting" consequences. Afterwards, the soaps will both return to their new normal pattern of transmission. The communities of both soaps will be forever linked, and it's been confirmed that familiar faces depart in the scenes and exciting new characters arrive into both soaps. Fans will be even more thrilled to learn that they'll be able to have their say in the outcome of the soap, as ITV announced they'll be able to choose one character from each soap who they would like to see meet, and interact, in a scene. Details of this initiative are set to be released next month via both soaps Insta, Facebook and TikTok accounts. Now, fans are predicting the two characters that will meet up and share a scene together. Ahead of the details surrounding the storyline, the stunt and the crossover plans, fans are also thinking they know what big storyline could come out of the episode. There's obviously the stunt, with it not clear if both Weatherfield and Emmerdale will have stunts unfolding, or if it will be in one location. Perhaps there's more than one stunt, or maybe more characters will feature across both locations. But fans are already guessing, or hoping, that it will be Mandy Dingle from the Dales and Corrie's Glenda Shuttleworth who will team up for the scene. Fans want the Rovers barmaid and Mandy to feature together either as new friends or even in a catfight. One fan said online: "Mandy and Glenda need to meet," as another said: "Mandy and Glenda." A third fan commented: "Mandy having a bar fight with Glenda," while another wrote: "Can't help thinking Glenda and Mandy would be a laugh." A further theory read: "MANDY DINGLE AND GLENDA SHUTTLEWORTH BESTIE ERA I JUST KNOW IT." As for the storyline fans had other ideas. Some viewers thought one character from each soap will sleep together leading to the first ever crossover baby, while some fans questioned if a couple on Corrie could help a former Emmerdale couple reunite amid rumours. One fan said: "Right who's getting pregnant then???! First ever crossover baby." On the latter theory, a fan said: "WAIT THERE'S ACTUALLY GOING GO BE AN EMMERDALE / CORRIE CROSSOVER?????? WHEN SWARLA ARE THE CATALYST FOR VANITY GETTING BACK TOGETHER THEN WHAT."
