Emmerdale and Corrie fans 'rumble crossover' and which characters will meet
Soap fans are guessing what leads to the big Emmerdale and Coronation Street crossover in a soap first, after ITV's announcement.
Next year in a soap first, both soaps will merge for one night only for a full hour-long episode. Not only that, but the events of the episode will pave the way for each soap's future storylines in the fallout.
While the episode will be self-contained, meaning the episodes before and after won't directly link to or follow on from what goes on in the special episode, it has been confirmed whatever goes on will have an impact on both shows. It's thought one character from each soap will meet and share scenes together.
Exact details have yet to be confirmed about what sets up the crossover, what happens in each fictional location in the episode and what the "ambitious stunt" is that bosses are planning. It's been said the soap's bosses have come together with a "genius" way to bring the shows together, crossing over.
The events of the big episode will impact all those involved and both shows going forward, with "everlasting" consequences. Afterwards, the soaps will both return to their new normal pattern of transmission.
The communities of both soaps will be forever linked, and it's been confirmed that familiar faces depart in the scenes and exciting new characters arrive into both soaps. Fans will be even more thrilled to learn that they'll be able to have their say in the outcome of the soap, as ITV announced they'll be able to choose one character from each soap who they would like to see meet, and interact, in a scene.
Details of this initiative are set to be released next month via both soaps Insta, Facebook and TikTok accounts. Now, fans are predicting the two characters that will meet up and share a scene together.
Ahead of the details surrounding the storyline, the stunt and the crossover plans, fans are also thinking they know what big storyline could come out of the episode. There's obviously the stunt, with it not clear if both Weatherfield and Emmerdale will have stunts unfolding, or if it will be in one location.
Perhaps there's more than one stunt, or maybe more characters will feature across both locations. But fans are already guessing, or hoping, that it will be Mandy Dingle from the Dales and Corrie's Glenda Shuttleworth who will team up for the scene.
Fans want the Rovers barmaid and Mandy to feature together either as new friends or even in a catfight. One fan said online: "Mandy and Glenda need to meet," as another said: "Mandy and Glenda."
A third fan commented: "Mandy having a bar fight with Glenda," while another wrote: "Can't help thinking Glenda and Mandy would be a laugh." A further theory read: "MANDY DINGLE AND GLENDA SHUTTLEWORTH BESTIE ERA I JUST KNOW IT."
As for the storyline fans had other ideas. Some viewers thought one character from each soap will sleep together leading to the first ever crossover baby, while some fans questioned if a couple on Corrie could help a former Emmerdale couple reunite amid rumours. One fan said: "Right who's getting pregnant then???! First ever crossover baby."
On the latter theory, a fan said: "WAIT THERE'S ACTUALLY GOING GO BE AN EMMERDALE / CORRIE CROSSOVER?????? WHEN SWARLA ARE THE CATALYST FOR VANITY GETTING BACK TOGETHER THEN WHAT."
