Overnight closures coming to Abinojii Mikinah this weekend
Abinojii Mikinah and Dakota Street is seen on Aug. 15, 2025. (Glenn Pismenny/CTV News Winnipeg) The city is reminding drivers of more overnight closures on Abinojii Mikinah this weekend. The city said the closures are happening at the intersection with Dakota Street to allow for overnight paving operations. During the closures, the city said there will be no through traffic in any direction. The first closure begins at 7 p.m. Friday and ends at 6 a.m. Saturday. The intersection will also be closed from 4 p.m. Saturday night to 6 a.m. Sunday morning and again from 4 p.m. Sunday night to 6 a.m. Monday morning. If you are driving in the area, the city said all directions of travel will be required to turn right.

Kenaston lane closures to begin Monday

(Glenn Pismenny/CTV News Winnipeg) Traffic on Kenaston Boulevard is expected to be disrupted for the first part of the week as lane closures take effect on Monday evening. The City of Winnipeg will be closing lanes on Kenaston from Lowson Crescent to Rothwell Road for street construction and maintenance at the rail line crossing near Ikea. All southbound lanes will be closed in the area from Monday at 7 p.m. until Tuesday at 6 a.m. Drivers are asked to use a detour from Sterling Lyon Parkway to Waverley Street. Northbound lanes will then be closed from Tuesday at 7 p.m. to Wednesday at 6 a.m. For this closure, drivers are asked to use the detour at McGillivray Boulevard to Waverley Street. All work is expected to be done by Wednesday.

Winnipeg community warned about aggressive deer

Signs have popped up in the community warning people there is a doe protecting its fawn. 'While there were no reports of the deer making contact, it was determined that some warning signage was necessary,' a provincial spokesperson said in an email to CTV News Winnipeg. (Glenn Pismenny/CTV News Winnipeg) The province said incidents like this are rare and short-lived, as the mother doe is only this protective until the fawn is more independent. The province said relocating the deer would only be a last resort, as it would cause a lot of stress on the deer and her fawn. 'The public is urged to be cautious, and avoid the area or take an alternate route at this time.'

Lane closure for Kenaston Boulevard coming next week for rail line maintenance

(Glenn Pismenny/CTV News Winnipeg) If your evening commute includes Kenaston Boulevard next week, you may want to find an alternate route for a couple of days. The City of Winnipeg will be closing two lanes on the street from June 16 to 18 from Lowson Crescent to Rothwell Road. Starting June 16 at 7 p.m., all southbound lanes will be closed until 6 a.m. for street construction and maintenance at the rail line crossing. Drivers are asked to use a detour from Sterling Lyon Parkway to Waverley Street. The northbound lanes will be closed the next day from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Drivers are asked to use the detour at McGillivray Boulevard to Waverley Street. The work is expected to be finished June 18.
