"Going to slap..." Johnny Manziel's scorching comment defending Cam Newton adds fuel to fiery Jalen Hurts media controversy

Johnny Manziel sides with Cam Newton (Imagn Images) Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel has once again taken to social media to defend a fellow football icon—and this time, his fiery words were aimed at Philadelphia Eagles superfan King Gillie. The controversy erupted after a viral video showed Gillie taunting Cam Newton for never winning a Super Bowl, a jab that didn't sit well with Manziel, who wasted no time clapping back. Johnny Manziel defends Cam Newton with savage clapback amid Jalen Hurts media drama targeting Eagles superfan During his birthday celebration, King Gillie—known for his passionate Eagles support—was seen holding the Vince Lombardi Trophy and mocking Newton's NFL résumé. 'Cam ain't never had one of these, and I ain't going back and forth with you,' he said into the mic. 'Thank you Jalen. Appreciate you Jalen. Love you Nick. Appreciate you Jalen. Cam Newton never had one of these.' The clip, shared by the parody 'Shannon Sharpes Burner' account on X, quickly made the rounds, drawing attention not only for the statement but for its timing. Less than 24 hours later, Johnny Manziel unleashed a scathing response on the platform. 'Yo King Gillie you may be the biggest f-cking loser on the planet. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like No annual fees for life UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Talking like you've f-cking done anything on a football field. If I see you just know I'm going to slap the f-ck out of you, trust,' Manziel posted. Manziel's outrage wasn't just about football accolades—it was personal. Newton had appeared just the day before on Manziel's new podcast Glory Daze, where both men reflected on their shared past as underdog icons in college football. Newton and Manziel: Heads of the underdog empire In the podcast episode, Newton delved into what made their college football journeys so powerful and similar. 'When you think about Texas A&M and you think about Texas, who's the superior team? Texas. Right? When you think about Auburn and you think about Alabama, who's the superior team? Alabama. We were the heads of the underdogs.' Both Newton and Manziel etched their names into college football history—Newton in 2010 with Auburn and Manziel in 2012 with Texas A&M. Though Newton's NFL career included a league MVP award and a Super Bowl appearance, the mutual respect between the two remains rooted in their college dominance, not just professional achievements. Manziel's defense of Newton wasn't just about a friend—it was about legacy, respect, and reminding fans that greatness isn't always measured by trophies. Dolphins' Tyreek Hill Focused on Being a Team Leader in 2025

Dolphins' Tyreek Hill Focused on Being a Team Leader in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Miami Dolphins have had a tumultuous offseason, filled with trade rumors, disgruntled players, and questions around the team's culture. But, as the team approaches training camp in July, there seems to be some positive spirit coming from Miami. Advertisement After a disappointing and frustrated end to the 2024 season, receiver Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins weren't on the best of terms. However, over the offseason, the two sides seemed to work things out, and Hill has come into team activities with a revitalized mindset. Hill is focused on being a leader for the Dolphins in 2025, a year he believes Miami can accomplish great things in. "This year as one of the leaders, I told the guys, it's time to change who we are as a team. It's time to change the narrative about we are not able to play in cold weather, we are not a physical team," Hill said in a recent appearance on the "Glory Daze" from the Fanatics Fest in NYC (h/t dolphinswire). "So, I'm tired of that narrative. I'm tired of living behind not being able to go to the playoffs and win in Miami, because we got a damn good team. Advertisement "We got a good quarterback, we got a good offensive lineman and we got some good coaches and we got some good people in the community who deserve to be a part of that. So, I feel like this is the year that we change all of that." Hill will be entering his fourth year with the Dolphins after spending the first six years of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs. Hill went to the playoffs every year with the Chiefs. In his last four seasons with the Chiefs, Hill reached the AFC Championship game every year and won two Super Bowls. Hill knows what success feels like from his time in Kansas City and wants the Miami community to enjoy that as well. That will be 25 years without a playoff win if the Dolphins can't accomplish the feat this season. Advertisement "That's something that I talk to my Mom about every day. I take pride in that. Being one of the leaders on this team, I not only want to do it for myself, man, but I want to do it for the fans. I want to do it for the community of Miami, because it's special to me," Hill said. "I don't know, man. It's just something different about me. I just feel different. I just feel like if I don't do it, I'm basically just collecting a check, and I don't want to feel like that." This season will be a make-or-break year for the Dolphins with head coach Mike McDaniel on the hot seat, but their star receiver is going to do everything in his power to lead his team to a playoff run. Tyreek Hill ready to 'change the narrative' surrounding Dolphins

As the 2025 NFL season approaches, star Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill said it's time for Miami to change the storylines that surround the franchise. During a recent appearance on the "Glory Daze" podcast with Johnny Manziel from the Fanatics Fest in NYC, Hill commented on the urgency he feels heading into 2025. "This year as one of the leaders, I told the guys, it's time to change who we are as a team. It's time to change the narrative about we are not able to play in cold weather, we are not a physical team. So, I'm tired of that narrative. I'm tired of living behind not being able to go to the playoffs and win in Miami, because we got a damn good team. "We got a good quarterback, we got a good offensive lineman and we got some good coaches and we got some good people in the community who deserve to be a part of that. So, I feel like this is the year that we change all of that," Hill said. Trade talks have encompassed Miami cornerback Jalen Ramsey's offseason. During his podcast appearance with Manziel, Hill discussed how he was gearing up to put the "full court press" on recruiting Ramsey back to South Beach. Hill knows that Ramsey remaining with the Dolphins puts Miami in the best position to accomplish some of the team goals that Hill was talking about alongside Manziel. But, it's also because Hill doesn't want Ramsey to miss out on that moment when postseason success does happen for Miami. "I'm really hoping that we sign Jalen Ramsey back, because he's a great leader on the defensive side of the ball. And just being able to do something special in Miami and win a playoff game after 25 years, I think that's something that he doesn't want to miss out on. "We got to get to that. That's something that I talk to my Mom about every day. I take pride in that. Being one of the leaders on this team, I not only want to do it for myself, man, but I want to do it for the fans. I want to do it for the community of Miami, because it's special to me. I don't know, man. It's just something different about me. I just feel different. I just feel like if I don't do it, I'm basically just collecting a check, and I don't want to feel like that," Hill said. At times throughout the first two seasons of Mike McDaniel's run in Miami, it felt and looked like the Dolphins were primed to turn the postseason corner. But, Miami stumbled through a five-game losing streak late in the 2022 season. And then the Dolphins were without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa in a 34-31 AFC Wild Card loss at Buffalo as Tagovailoa missed the final two games of the season with a second concussion. In 2023, the Dolphins raced out to a 5-1 record and put up 70 points in a Week 3 win over Denver. The Dolphins were 11-4 before dropping their final two regular season games at Baltimore and versus Buffalo. Miami's loss at Baltimore was a laugher, 56-19. Then, at a frosty Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Miami suffered a 26-7 loss against the Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card round once more. At the time, it was the Dolphins' 11th straight loss when game-time temps were 40 degrees or less. In 2024, Tagovailoa's injury absences dug the Dolphins too deep a hole to climb out of as Miami finished 8-9. Now, with 2025 training camp nearing, Hill seems locked back in to steering the Dolphins to a place they haven't been in 25 years.

From packing his bags to glory days: Morgan out to cap amazing season

At the start of this season, getting the ride on an early favourite in a stakes race in town would have been a major moment for Ash Morgan. But then again, at the start of the season, the Newcastle-based Welshman was thinking about packing his bags and going home to the UK as well. Now a group 1-winning, in-demand jockey in Sydney, Morgan will look to add to his 'incredible' season with a sixth stakes victory when he rides Glory Daze in the listed WJ McKell Cup (2000m) at Rosehill on Saturday. All five of Morgan's Australian stakes wins have come this year, after riding Iowna Merc to victory in the listed Canterbury Sprint on New Year's Day. The real turning point, though, came on November 2 when he took Private Harry to his maiden win at Newcastle. The Nathan Doyle-trained colt remains unbeaten in five starts, giving Morgan his biggest wins, in the group 1 Galaxy and $3 million Magic Millions Sunlight, and changing his life in the process. 'It's been incredible,' Morgan said. 'Before Harry won his maiden, I was thinking I might just pack my bags up and go home. Then I won the maiden on him and I thought, no, I better stay a bit longer. 'But there was a time I was thinking that. My daughter is at home, in Ireland, and I'm thinking, what am I doing? 'I was riding plenty of winners, but it wasn't what I wanted to do, but then he won his maiden and there was a reason to stay.'
