Erie Zoo hosts Equipment Day

The Erie Zoo held one of its most beloved annual events on Saturday. It was Equipment Day. Massive trucks, tractors and construction equipment were all on display. Kids had the opportunity to get up close, snap photos and explore 15 different types of machinery. Tickets now available Erie Zoo's centennial Mane Event Hali Hartley, the special events manager for the zoo, said both kids and adults love to enjoy this event. 'This event is sort of the kick-off of our summer,' said Hartley. 'It's the most popular event, everyone loves this event, they come every year, so we just make sure to try to make it better and bring more machines each year.' And visitors have just over a week to view their Chinese lantern festival, Glow Wild. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Pet owners will soon be able to honor pets at new Rainbow Bridge Memorial Garden

Soon, Millcreek Township will have its own Rainbow Bridge Memorial Garden for pet owners to remember and grieve their pets that have passed on. Debbie Garcia is spearheading the project with Ruth Thompson of the ANNA Shelter. Two weeks left to 'Glow Wild' at Erie Zoo centennial celebration The project has been approved by Millcreek Township and will be located at Scott Park. The Rainbow Bridge is a symbolic place where pet owners cross in the afterlife to meet up with their pets. People can memorialize their pets by purchasing bricks. All net proceeds will benefit the ANNA Shelter and go towards food, medical care and other essentials. See an increase in bugs? Here's what they are 'It will be a pretty good-sized patio with memorial bricks that we will place. It's going to be a serene place for people to go and reflect and remember their pets,' said Garcia. The memorial bricks went on sale Tuesday. Those who would like to purchase one can do so by clicking here. The project should be complete by October. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. As Rib Fest wraps up, one organizer reflects on rainy day difficulties

The Erie Wild Rib Cook-Off & Music Festival is done and over, but was it as successful as years past? Performance and event manager Kathi Danielson said this was one of the toughest to date, and she has been doing this for 21 years. Two weeks left to 'Glow Wild' at Erie Zoo centennial celebration She said all four days were difficult with the cold and rain. This year, there were more vendors than in previous years, but the weather did put a damper on some of the fun. EMTA reminds riders of upcoming route changes 'It was quite an impact to the event, but I have to tell you that the vendors that come to this event are very well seasoned and they understand that I have no control over the weather and they will be back next year and they are so looking forward to it,' said Danielson. The winner of the 1st place for best ribs was After Hours BBQ. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Erie Zoo kicks off their Glow Wild Chinese Lantern Festival

The Erie Zoo got a new look as a brand-new event kicked off Thursday night. Dozens of families came to the Erie Zoo to check out the lights for the first-ever Glow Wild event. During the day, they just look like statues, but when the sun set, the Erie Zoo transforms into a glowing paradise. Center for Artificial Intelligence opens at PennWest Edinboro 'Beautiful lights, beautiful displays, it's amazing, and it's really nice to come out and see all the animals,' said Clifford Seibel, a City of Erie resident. Thursday night, the Erie Zoo kicked off its Glow Wild show, a Chinese lantern festival bringing hand-crafted, illuminated art to the zoo on West 38 Street. The zoo's events manager said the event has taken months of preparation, and finally the zoo is ready for the region's first ever Chinese lantern festival. 'Hanart brings over 25 employees to help set up all of the lanterns. They also repair and paint all of them, and then we will also have a performance from them. So, it's a lot of work for us to make sure the grounds are clean and ready for them and then that all the lanterns are set in different areas,' said Hali Hartley, the Erie Zoo' special events manager. National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week — A look inside Erie County 911 Call Center We were told there are around 60 different animal sculptures here to represent some of the animals at the zoo. Including our buddy the elephant. We take a walk this way, there's a lot more to see. Everywhere you look, there's something lighting up. This one's been pretty popular, a lot of people coming to take pictures of the swans here, but excitement is high in the Erie Zoo right now. Q: 'Do you have a favorite animal you like to see when coming to the zoo? 'The sand cats!' 'They're cute,' said Oren Henry, who was enjoying the zoo. 'The new otters,' Mika Tripp, another zoo enjoyer said. 'It's cool to see the kangaroos, the penguins, the new otter exhibit is really nice. I love seeing the alligators,' Seibel said. Emergency Operations Center plan loses funding, renovations may be delayed And while guests are welcome to see all the animals they usually do when coming to the zoo, now they can see much more in the form of lanterns, such as a glowing octopus or a shimmering hippopotamus. And the fun doesn't end there, with children invited to a live performance from Hanart every night until Sunday to learn a little kung-fu from the masters. And it's not too late to go down to the zoo and check out the lights with the Chinese lanterns staying up until June 15. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
