New Hospitals, Flyovers Soon As Delhi Ramps Up Health, Transport Infrastructure

New Delhi: Delhi is ramping up its health infrastructure, with over 1,300 new hospital beds almost ready across four government hospitals, and the construction of seven hospitals with ICU facilities is underway in the city. At a recent high-level review meeting, the Public Works Department (PWD) briefed Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on the status of key projects of the department. "These hospitals are almost ready. Furniture is being installed and fire safety approvals are in the final stages," a senior PWD official said. The new beds are expected to be operational within the next few months. According to the officials, construction of new blocks is underway at Acharya Shree Bhikshu, Dada Dev, Guru Gobind Singh, and Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospitals, where the work was undertaken by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in 2019-20, but could not be completed due to the lack of funds. Additionally, the government is also constructing 11 new hospitals, including seven with Intensive Care Unit (ICU) facilities. At least 13 health centres are being expanded as part of a broader medical infrastructure upgrade. A mix of public-private partnerships and fully government-funded models are being used to ensure quality. Court Infrastructure Projects Lag Behind While health infrastructure projects are showing progress, the administration is under growing pressure to accelerate work on court complexes and transport upgrades. "We've made good progress on health but need to pick up pace on courts and transport. The next few months are critical," a government source told NDTV. Court infrastructure projects at Shastri Park, Karkardooma, and Rohini are facing delays due to technical challenges, including high groundwater levels and pending design finalisations as key reasons for the delay, officials said. On the transport front, the Delhi government has sought Rs 953 crore from the Centre under the Central Road Fund to repair and resurface 400 km of roads damaged by monsoon rains and delayed maintenance. Additionally, the Urban Development Fund (UDF) has requested Rs 1,000 crore to fast-track stalled infrastructure projects, including long-pending flyovers and underpasses. Two major flyovers, at Modi Mill and Savitri Cinema intersections on the Outer Ring Road, have received clearance at a total cost of Rs 412 crore. Both sites are known for chronic congestion, and the government hopes the new structures will ease traffic snarls once operational.

Digital Ministry to propose cyber security enforcement strategy to Cabinet

KUALA LUMPUR: The Digital Ministry will present a cyber security enforcement strategy to the Cabinet, says Minister Gobind Singh. Prepared by CyberSecurity Malaysia, the strategy includes a proposal for a dedicated enforcement agency to implement existing laws effectively. "We need to have an agency that will be able to enforce the measures under the existing laws because if you have measures alone but there is no one to enforce it, then that's going to be a problem. "However, that will be something for the Cabinet to decide as we move along," he told reporters after launching the Asean 5GOT Security Summit 2025 here on Tuesday (July 15). Gobind added that while CyberSecurity Malaysia has the capacity, the Cabinet will be consulted on the decision to empower specific agencies by this year. "We have Cyber Security Malaysia, they have the capacity," he added. He said that various ministries will be engaged over the matters, including the Home Ministry, Communications Ministry, and the Law and Institutional Reform Ministry. "It's important to get feedback from Cabinet. We are also taking steps to engage with the industry and experts. I think that will be very helpful in us shaping how we design our strategies, including towards enforcement, and we prepare the country for the challenge of building a trusted digital ecosystem moving ahead," he added. Gobind also said that his ministry is set to table the Cybercrime Bill 2025 to Parliament in October. Asked about the details of the Bill, he said that the proposed law will be able to deal with cyber threats more effectively amidst technological advances. It was reported that the Bill would replace the outdated Computer Crimes Act 1997.

SGPC demands removal of AI video featuring Guru Gobind Singh by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee

Amritsar: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee ( SGPC ) has strongly objected to an animation video created using AI by YouTuber Dhruv Rathee , which features Guru Gobind Singh and the Sahibzadas. In a statement issued here on Monday, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami demanded that the video be taken down immediately, warning of legal action and urging the govt to take the strictest possible action. Dhami said that the history of Sikh Gurus and Sikh personalities is a sacred and inviolable heritage, and no person has the right to distort or misrepresent it. He emphasised that no film or animation depicting the Gurus or their families can be created, as the SGPC has already passed resolutions imposing a complete ban on such portrayals. The SGPC president claimed that aside from historical inaccuracies, the inclusion of AI-generated visuals depicting the Sikh Gurus in Rathee's video has hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikh community . Such portrayals violate Sikh principles and traditions, as in Sikh tenets, the Gurus, Sahibzadas, and their families cannot be represented in human form or in films. MSID:: 121268938 413 |

DAP and PKR's missing Indian leaders in Ayer Kuning polls

LETTER | With the Ayer Kuning by-election just hours away, the notable absence of key Indian leaders from DAP and PKR - including Gobind Singh, M Kulasegaran, R Ramanan, and Saraswathy Kandasami – in the campaign for their Pakatan Harapan ally, BN, is deeply concerning. The silence from these prominent figures has puzzled local observers, and the reasons for their non-appearance remain unclear. This situation sadly highlights the enduring influence of race and party affiliation in our political landscape. One must wonder if the Indian minister and deputy ministers from DAP and PKR are simply unknown to the voters of Perak, especially in Ayer Kuning. This raises serious doubts about the sincerity of DAP and PKR's commitment to supporting BN's candidate, Yusri Bakir. Could it be that these key Indian leaders within DAP and PKR have failed to establish meaningful connections with the grassroots community, particularly in rural constituencies? The Ayer Kuning by-election will be contested by Yusri, Abd Muhaimin Malek of Perikatan Nasional, and KS Bawani representing Parti Sosialis Malaysia. Pakistan issues over 6,500 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims for Baisakhi festival

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has issued more than 6,500 visas to Indian Sikh pilgrims for the Baisakhi festival this month, the Pakistani high commission in New Delhi said on Monday. Baisakhi, the spring harvest festival primarily celebrated in Punjab and northern India, marks the beginning of the Sikh New Year and symbolizes spiritual rejuvenation, with celebrations centered around Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal, some 45 kilometers northwest of Islamabad. Sikhs are a small minority based in the Punjab region that is divided between Muslim-majority Pakistan and Hindu-majority India, but several Sikh holy sites ended up being in Pakistan after the partition of the Subcontinent in 1947. The annual festival is scheduled to be held in Pakistan on April 10-19, with pilgrims expected to visit Gurdwara Panja Sahib, Gurdwara Nankana Sahib and Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib. 'The large number of visas issued by the Government of Pakistan is a manifestation of our policy to foster harmony and promote understanding between peoples, cultures and religions,' Pakistan's chargé d'affaires was quoted as saying by the country's high commission in New Delhi. 'Pakistan would continue to facilitate such visits to sacred and holy sites.' The shrine in Hasan Abdal is one of Sikhism's holiest sites and it is believed that the handprint of the founder of the religion, Guru Nanak, is imprinted on a boulder there. Baisakhi is also meant to mark the day when Gobind Singh, the 10th and final guru of Sikhism, established the discipline of Khalsa, through which the faithful can aspire to the ultimate state of purity. Every year, a large number of Yatrees from India visit Pakistan to observe various religious festivals under the framework of the Pakistan-India Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines of 1974.
