Topps launches ‘Gold Logoman' cards celebrating MLB's top award winners

Topps is adding to its growing lineup of game-used, ultra high-end chases with a new Gold Logoman card, the company announced Saturday. Similar to the Rookie Debut Patch Autograph, Topps and Fanatics will collaborate with Nike and MLB for the Gold Logoman cards, which will be created from jerseys worn by the top award winners from each league last season. That lineup includes MVPs Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge, Cy Young winners Chris Sale and Tarik Skubal and Rookie of the Year winners Paul Skenes and Luis Gil. The players will wear the jerseys, which feature a special gold logo instead of the traditional club-colored silhouette on the back, for the entire 2025 season. The jerseys will be authenticated throughout the year with 10 from each player used to create the Gold Logoman cards after the season. Topps didn't immediately announce which products the cards will appear in. ????????????????????????????????: MLB, Topps & Fanatics have partnered on a brand-new Gold MLB Logo Patch award winners — Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Paul Skenes, Luis Gil, Tarik Skubal, and Chris Sale — will wear a Gold MLB Logo Patch throughout the 2025 season. Fanatics will also sell retail versions of all six players' authentic home, away, City Connect and alternate jerseys. The Gold Logoman cards are the latest push by Topps and Fanatics to include more game-used memorabilia from specific moments in sports card products. The trend started with the release of the Rookie Debut Patch Autograph in 2023 Topps Chrome Update, which features a one-of-a-kind patch created for and worn only during a player's MLB debut. These cards have quickly become some of the most coveted in the trading card hobby, surpassing the record sales of Superfractor 1/1 parallels in some cases. The Rookie Debut Patch worn by Skenes, which was pulled by an 11-year-old boy on Christmas last year, is currently up for auction at Fanatics Collect. As of Friday, the high bid for the card was $660,000, including buyer's premium. Topps has also made an effort in recent releases to include more Logoman patches in its high-end offerings — a trend that has been most popular during the ultra-modern era for basketball and football cards, which feature NBA Logoman and NFL Shield patches. Among Topps' new Logoman cards is the logo from the pants Ohtani was wearing when he hit the 50th home run of his historic 50-homer, 50-steal season last year. That Ohtani Logoman is part of the new Dynasty Black brand, which was announced in September and will feature memorabilia from specific moments. Currently up for auction at Heritage, the Ohtani Logoman has a high bid of $176,900, including buyer's premium, with nearly two weeks remaining. The use of gold to highlight award winners falls in line with the recent tradition of teams wearing gold-trimmed uniforms to celebrate World Series wins. According to ESPN, the modern tradition of gold-trimmed uniforms started with the 2005 Boston Sox following the team's historic win in 2004. Ben Burrows is a reporter and editor for cllct.

Individual award winners to have gold MLB logo on their jerseys, some to go into trading cards

Major League Baseball, Topps, Fanatics and Nike are collaborating on a new way of celebrating individual award winners through the MLB logo patches on their jerseys. Debuted by NL MVP Shohei Ohtani during Saturday's exhibition game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Chicago Cubs in Tokyo (pictured above), each of the league's six individual award winners — also including AL MVP Aaron Judge, NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale, AL Cy Young winner Luis Gil, NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes and AL Rookie of the Year Tarik Skubal — will have special gold embellished versions of the silhouetted MLB logo patches on the back of all their jerseys throughout the season. Those patches usually match the color scheme of each team's jersey, so the gold patches will stand out from those worn by every other player in the league. Advertisement The gold MLB logo patches will be authenticated over the course of the season and 10 for each player will be removed from the jersey and put into Topps trading cards the following year. It is not yet known exactly which sets those cards will go into. Fanatics will also make retail versions of each player's authentic Nike jerseys (home, away, alternate and City Connect) with the gold patches that will be sold. 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆: MLB, Topps & Fanatics have partnered on a brand-new Gold MLB Logo Patch program. Six award winners — Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, Paul Skenes, Luis Gil, Tarik Skubal, and Chris Sale — will wear a Gold MLB Logo Patch throughout the 2025 season. These game-worn… — Topps (@Topps) March 15, 2025 This initiative follows the 2023 introduction of the MLB Debut Patch, which is now worn on the sleeve of every player during their MLB debut game and then removed and put into one-of-a-kind Topps cards that have quickly become highly sought after and valuable. After a widely publicized chase fueled by a bounty offer from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Skenes' Debut Patch card is currently up for auction with a high bid of $660,000 and five days left to go. The new Gold Logoman cards will likely command premium values among collectors, as well. This is not the first time gold jersey elements are being utilized in MLB, though. In 1994, the league had a different gold-embellished logo patch that players wore on their sleeve to commemorate professional baseball's 125th anniversary. And since 2005, the defending World Series champions have had gold uniform elements during their home opener. So this season, Ohtani alone will have just a bit more gold than his Dodger teammates that day. The Athletic maintains full editorial independence in all our coverage.
