The continent on your plate: Best African restaurants in Cape Town

It shouldn't come as a surprise that there are more and more African restaurants in Cape Town. The city features on not one but two lists for the best foodie destinations in 2025. Looking at Google reviews for these restaurants, it's clear that the food is not only authentically African but scrumptious. Spicy or sweet, vegetarian or meat, there's a delicious variety for all palates. Gold Restaurant is clearly a favourite with Capetonians and tourists. The African fusion eatery has an impressive 3600 Google reviews and an average rating of 4.5 out of a possible 5 stars. The menu is a fusion of meals from across the continent. One example is Ndolé, a Cameroonian stew of peanuts, shrimps and spinach. In addition, there's Kandola Balls from Malawi: sweet potato rolled in cheese and sesame seeds. South Africa is also well-represented with Xhosa corn breads and snoek pâté. But it's not just the food that diners come for. Gold Restaurant promises an 'immersive African experience'. The entire set menu is meant to be shared between guests at the table. The venue also hosts lively traditional puppet dances from Mali. With over 1200 Google reviews that average a brilliant 4.5 stars, Addis in Cape is clearly among Cape Town's best African restaurants. The eatery may be in the city centre, but it transports you straight to Ethiopia. The air is thick with burning frankincense and the rich aroma of Ethiopian coffee. Meat and vegetarian stews come with injera, a large fermented crepe. Another popular dish is chickpea dumplings in spicy Berbere sauce. Morocco is the most visited African country, but for those of us not able to fly to Marrakech, there's always the Andalousse Moroccan Restaurant. With an impressive 4.4-star rating from over 600 Google reviews, this eatery is a must-visit. The menu includes a variety of tajines, the traditional Moroccan stew that's slow-cooked in conical clay pots. There's also harira bread, which is pita stuffed with garlic and cheese. While the city may be the continent's southernmost tip, there's no shortage of African restaurants in Cape Town. And at Meeting Point, chefs bring Tanzanian cuisine to South Africa from Moshi, a village near Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Averaging a golden 4.5-star rating from nearly 400 reviews, Meeting Point's menu is clearly delicious. Look out for chapati (roti) served with chicken curry. With Chai tea and mandazi doughnuts on the table, you'll get a mouthwatering taste of East Africa. Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
