BBC finally AXE £30million show Survivor after it tanked in the ratings as series becomes TV's most expensive flop EVER
THE BBC has officially axed challenge show Survivor despite splurging a reported £30million on the reboot. The decision means the reality programme is being seen as television's most expensive flop. 3 3 After the new version tanked in the ratings, there had been speculation that a second series was paused. Now, host Joel Dommett has posted an update revealing that it has gone for good. Former I'm A Celebrity star Joel, 40, said: 'It just shows you how nothing is a given in telly. 'I thought Survivor would be huge. I thought that would be my job for the next 20 years. 'I've done shows and thought that's not coming back and it keeps coming back and then you do something like Survivor, which you think is guaranteed and it doesn't come back.' The format is a huge hit across the world, particularly in the US where it was aired for 25 years. It involves contestants being marooned in a remote location where they compete in challenges to win rations, supplies and rewards, plus immunity from elimination. ITV launched a UK version in 2001, hosted by Mark Austin and then Mark Nicholas, but it folded after just two series. However, the BBC was confident that, more than two decades on, it was worth giving it another go. The latest version, filmed in the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2023 was said to have cost £30million to make. Survivor shock as contestant suffers gruesome head injury in brutal challenge But it attracted an average of only 2.6million viewers when it aired that October. A source said: 'Survivor was given a plum spot in the schedule right after Strictly Come Dancing but totally tanked. 'Execs just can't get their head around why the UK just can't find any love for a format which is beloved around the globe. 'After a year of speculation that the BBC's remake was facing the chop, it's now official. 'It's looking like TV's most expensive flop ever.' However, Joel remains one of TV's most popular presenters and will soon be seen hosting next month's National Television Awards on ITV. He is also part of ITV's new show, Celebrity Sabotage. A dedicated website for Survivor holds the message: 'As things stand, we are not processing or taking any further applications at this time.' 3

Mariah Carey left stunned after her notorious entourage is dwarfed by fellow hotel guest
WHEN pop diva Mariah Carey holed up in a luxury £20,000-a-night suite at a swanky central London hotel, naturally, she believed she would be the biggest diva in the joint. But it turns out a much bigger name ended up coming to stay at the five-star hotel. 5 5 I'm told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky checked in during his trip to London – along with a UK police protection force, a motorcade of blacked-out vehicles and round-the-clock security to keep him safe. My source explained: 'Zelensky's entourage made Mariah look tiny by comparison.' 'She was well and truly outranked on the luxury ladder. 'Mariah is used to being number one wherever she goes – but this time, she was very much the support act. "Zelensky's security detail made it clear this wasn't your average celebrity check-in and he was given the royal treatment during his stay.' Mariah, has been staying at the posh hotel, a favourite of big-name stars including Beyonce and George Clooney, since she arrived in London to perform at Brighton Pride at the start of the month. Last night she played one final UK concert in The King's back garden at his Norfolk estate, Sandringham. Mariah will now head back to her home in the US before she hits the road again to promote her 16th studio album, Here For It All, which drops on September 26. Luckily for Mariah, she will always be the top dog in her own palace. Basement make camp hot seller BASEMENT JAXX headlined the first Bestival in 2004 – so it was fitting they were back to the bill at its family-friendly sister event, Camp Bestival, 21 years later. Frontman Felix Buxton is now a dad himself and he and bandmate Simon Ratcliffe delighted old ravers and their kids with a storming Saturday set of dance anthems including Where's Your Head At, Jump n' Shout and Fly Life. DJ Rob Da Bank's 'festi-holiday' in Lulworth Cove, Dorset, also featured huge sets from Sugababes, Sir Tom Jones and Goldie as well as kids' favourites like Mr Tumble and Blippi – who my nephew is absolutely obsessed with. If you're looking for an introduction to festivals with your kids, there is no better place than Camp Bestival. Next year's event will run from July 30 to August 2. Early-bird tickets are already on sale with a limited-time offer for FREE weekend entry for children under five. See for further details. KAISER CHIEFS are giving the UK more Employment – by extending the 20th anniversary tour for their debut album. They have played a raft of huge concerts this summer including a set at Glastonbury to celebrate the record, Employment, and will now tour arenas next February. Tickets go on sale next Friday. Red card 5 CARDI B looks red hot in the video for new single Imaginary Playerz. It sees the US rapper wear a string of designer outfits, including this stunning dress, while reclining on the wing of a private jet in New York. She's then seen relaxing on a luxury yacht in Mykonos, Greece – and soaking her feet in champagne in Paris. I'll stick to drinking the fizz, rather than stick my toes in it, next time I have something to celebrate. Perrie is packing a punch 5 PERRIE is hitting him where it hurts in her new music video – by punching a male love interest in the goolies before running him over. My exclusive photos show the former Little Mix star dressed as a schoolgirl on the set of the video for her upcoming single If He Wanted To He Would, which will be out next Friday. She wore a uniform while behind the wheel of a very rare 1969 right-hand drive Mercedes Cabriolet at posh country manor Addington Palace in Croydon, Surrey. And it sounds like things will get pretty heated in the video. A source close to the singer said: 'The song is all about being let down again and again by a man, and in the video, Perrie catches her bloke cheating on her. 'But she gets violent revenge by smacking him in the balls and then running him over in a fancy convertible. 'It's a lot of fun and so is the song – it will get people moving.' Perrie launched her solo career last year with the single Forget About Us but has been quiet for the last six months since she put out her last track Rollercoaster. Here's hoping this single is the beginning of a lot more from her.

The new London hotel that feels like an A-listers apartment with retro rooms and fantastic restaurant
THE July London Victoria is one of the newest hotels to open in the city; their first UK hotel after success in Amsterdam with more plans for Dublin and Lisbon too. Here is everything you need to know. 4 4 Where is the The July London Victoria? Just steps from London Victoria station, you are right in the middle of it all. The July London Victoria is a mastery in transporting you back in time without feeling dated, with laidback funk and jazz playing while checking into the mid century hotel. I was obsessed with the interiors as soon as I stepped in - rich mid century wood, painted ceilings and plush red chairs, all while funk and jazz played overhead. What are the rooms like? Despite calling themselves aparthotel, it felt more likely being in a trendy A listers flat. Each room comes with their own kitchenette, complete with Nespresso machines, tea making and all the glassware above the cooker. Decorated in baby pinks and rich green, I had great fun calling reception on the retro yellow dialling phone. Along with my very plush double bed, the pink tiled bathroom comes with a walk in shower and Marie-Stella-Maris toiletries, a Dutch brand the hotel has teamed up with. Despite being by a busy train station, my room was gloriously quiet thanks to overlooking a quiet street behind - meaning a fantastic nights sleep. What can you eat and drink there? The hotels The Idler is where you can dine all day. Lined with rich red leather seats, green ceiling ans pink trikes bar, I felt like I'd gone back to the80s (in a modern way) thanks to the abstract painted ceiling and mix of artwork on the walls Dinner is a small choice but good size portions affair; My Coppa cured meat and pickles starter was just as good as the whipped butter and sourdough. As tempted as I was by the steak and fish, the fresh tomato linguine with sides of seaweed salty Cavelero Nero and broccoli were a divine choice, as well as offering extremely large portion sizes. And I could hardly resist the chocolate mousse… Breakfast is a choice of continental or hot options such as potato hash and poached eggs. Take the kids too as they dine for free with an adult. Need a late night snack? There is even an on-site deli serving drinks and food to take back to your room. What else is there to do at the hotel? The hotel has an onsite 24hr gym - stylishly decorated in red patterns, albeit slightly sparse on the machines - as well as a cold plunge and sauna. The 24 hour reception is on hand for any questions or help - they happily were on hand when I forgot my phone charger by accident. Otherwise if you want to explore, catch a show at The West End, or hop on a train to explore the rest of the city. Is The July London Victoria family friendly? The hotel has a Family Apartment room which sleeps four, and you can request a free baby bed. Are there accessible rooms? There is the Accessible Apartment room which has an accessible bathroom, and there are two lifts in the hotel. 4 4
