Terrell Davis likes 'significant upgrade' Broncos made at running back

Denver Broncos legend Terrell Davis knows a thing or two about toting the football; he earned a gold jacket from it. And he's excited about the Broncos' 2025 running back room. "I like it so far," said Davis, who spoke with Broncos Wire at Bank of America's 'Golf With Us' event on Monday. "J.K. Dobbins -- watching him last year and then knowing what he brings -- he's a physical running back; he's a guy that breaks a lot of tackles, gets a lot of yards after contact. So bringing him into the fold was, already in my opinion, an upgrade. "Then you go in and you draft (RJ) Harvey. The potential that he has, he reminds me a little of Darren Sproles; everybody says that, but he's kind of a scatback or you can use him not only in the backfield, but anytime you have a back that has flexibility, you could put them out and run routes, that's a win." Davis went on to say that the 2025 running backs remind him of what head coach Sean Payton did in New Orleans. "We're kind of seeing this team in the image of Sean Payton; and you can look back at Darren Sproles, think back to Reggie Bush, think back to Mark Ingram," said Davis. "You kind of see that starting to re-emerge, or at least the characteristics of those kind of backs. Again, the proof is in the pudding, but I'm pretty bullish on this backfield and I think what it did too was not only bringing those guys (Dobbins and Harvey), just even watching the preseason game. "I know it's a small sample size, but I just felt the energy was different from that room. You see guys now trying to break tackles, trying to get extra yards which we didn't see last year. So pretty encouraged by that, excited to see what happens. I think that room has had a significant upgrade." The Broncos were middle of the pack (16th in the NFL) in rushing yards in 2024, and the team has not had a 100-yard rusher in a game since the 2022 season. If anyone knows what it takes to have success on the ground in the NFL, it's Davis. It's a good sign for Denver's backfield that the Hall of Famer likes what he's seen from the group so far. Davis, who won two Super Bowls in Denver, spoke to Broncos Wire while promoting an initiative to make golf more accessible for kids through Bank of America's "Golf With Us" campaign. Davis earned NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP honors during his decorated career, and he's a member of the league's 2,000-yard Club. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Hall of Famer Terrell Davis making a difference for kids on the golf course

Former Denver Broncos running back and Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Davis was the headliner at Bank of America's "Golf With Us" event on Monday in Ken Caryl, Colorado. "I'm a golfing fanatic," Davis told Broncos Wire. "I love to be able to give back to kids and do events like this. You know they have this event where Bank of America they're partnering with Golf With Us, and it's an initiative which is designed to make golf more accessible for kids throughout this country." One of the benefits from this event is for youth to learn life lessons -- even some life lessons that Davis learned on the gridiron. "A lot of stuff I learned on a football field, I apply in golf, which is really resiliency, man, because this game will test you," said Davis with a chuckle. "You gotta be able to bounce back; you gotta be able to kind of plan things out and then control what you can control. I kind of had that same mentality when I played in the league and it's kind of funny how the same things to apply in golf and not only golf, but in life." For Davis, this event was about providing access to a sport he loves, something that Davis didn't have growing up. "I think the biggest thing (with this event) is just access; growing up in the community that I grew up in, we didn't have access to a lot of things and you sort of have a mindset where it's not -- if you don't have a growth mindset, you don't have access to things that aren't in your daily life," said Davis. "No matter what I do, I try to expose my kids to places that they've never been to, events that they've never seen, sports they've never played. And then, obviously you know whether it's restaurants or golf courses, whatever it is. "I just feel like it makes you not only more well-rounded, but it gives you a bigger plan in terms of your ideas and seeing in life in a different way. For a lot of these kids, this will be the first time that they've ever golfed and probably didn't understand golf, what the golf courses were, probably don't understand how fun golf is. It's a sport for life. Anytime, no matter what age you are, what kind of handicap you have on the golf course, anybody can play." Young People Encouraged To Hit The Links

More kids are hitting the links. According to the National Golf Foundation, 3.7 million young people, ages 6 thru 17, played golf on a course in 2024, an increase of close to 50 percent from five years earlier. One of the all-time greats, Annika Sörenstam, is behind a new effort to help even more young people play the sport. Sörenstam has partnered with Bank of America for an initiative called "Golf With Us." "This initiative is close to my heart because it's a way to help grow the game of golf, and we're gonna do that by giving young kids the opportunity to make golf more affordable. So, by signing up and get(ting).... a yearly membership, you get a chance to play on thousands of courses for five dollars or less. So, hoping that, when they have the access, they get a chance to try it and then fall in love with the sport," Sörenstam says. And Sörenstam says golf isn't only about competing on the course. "If you're a golfer, you need so much patience and, as you know, when you're out in the world or just life in general, patience is really important," she says. Sörenstam also points to discipline, focus and determination, qualities she says are needed both in golf and in life outside the sport. More information on "Golf With Us" is available at
