Lena Dunham's New Netflix Movie 'Good Sex' Includes All Your Fave Rom-Com Stars

Rom-coms are so back—especially when it comes to Lena Dunham's new Netflix movie, Good Sex (debut date TBD). The film will feature major icons like Meg Ryan, Mark Ruffalo, and more—a lineup that's bound to generate buzz. Lena Dunham first gained notoriety for the HBO hit show Girls (which ended in 2017 after a successful six-season run), and she created Too Much, set to premiere on Netflix on July 10, 2025. Needless to say, Dunham knows a thing or two about creating a high-beloved rom-com, so this is sure to be something special! Here's what we know about the extremely anticipated movie. Set in , Good Sex centers on a couples therapist, played by , who decides to reenter the dating scene after years of prioritizing her patients over her love life. Her plans quickly unravel when she finds herself dating two very different men: one a decade her senior, played by , and the other a charismatic 20-something, played by Tucker Pillsbury. The Good Sex cast couldn't be more perfect! The group includes: Mark Ruffalo Natalie Portman Rashida Jones Meg Ryan Tucker Pillsbury Ruffalo's character will be portrayed as a successful businessman in his 50s, while Pillsbury's takes on a much more lax persona—a Brooklyn hipster with artistic ambitions. As 's character, Ally, is thrown into a love triangle whirlwind, she soon realizes that desire can defy logic and that there is no age limit on good sex. But while romance blossoms with both men, Ally struggles to keep both relationships separate and navigate her evolving desires before she risks losing them both—and herself in the process. Rashida Jones rounds out the cast as Ally's sharp and loyal best friend, offering a blend of comic relief and grounded wisdom. This character is Ally's go-to for all things love and chaos, constantly calling out the double standards surrounding aging, attraction, and emotional baggage. Classic vibes—with a twist—Jones brings humor, heart, and some real talk that keeps Ally rooted (or at least tries to). will play the role of the protagonist's therapist. Her casting marks a full-circle moment, as Ryan is synonymous with the American rom-com boom of the 1990s. She rose to fame through iconic performances in three beloved films written by Nora Ephron: (1989), Sleepless in Seattle (1993), and You've Got Mail (1998). Portman and Sophie Mas produce under their MountainA banner alongside Dunham and Michael Cohen through Good Thing Going Productions. Tim Bevan, Michael Sledd, and Michaela Celella also serve as executive producers for MountainA. There's no official release date for Good Sex yet, but we'll update you here as soon as we know more! Tina Fey Explains That ‘Four Seasons' Death and Teases 'Starting From Scratch' for Season 2

[This story contains spoilers for episodes seven and eight of ] 'It's been so fun. I don't know that I've ever been a part of something that had this much of an immediate positive reaction,' Tina Fey says of the last few weeks as The Four Seasons, which she co-created and stars in, debuted on Netflix. More from The Hollywood Reporter John Krasinski Didn't Know Brother-in-Law Stanley Tucci Was His 'Fountain of Youth' Co-Star Until Midway Through Filming Meg Ryan, Rashida Jones Join Natalie Portman for 'Good Sex' (Exclusive) Netflix Is Making a 'Clash of Clans' Animated Series The series is inspired by the 1981 rom-com of the same name directed by Alan Alda, and follows three couples as they go on vacations in spring, summer, fall and winter, with marital and friendship troubles along the way. In a surprise twist, Steve Carell's character Nick — who had divorced his wife Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver) and was dating the much younger Ginny (Erika Henningsen) — died in a car crash in the second-to-last episode, which Fey addressed at an Emmy FYC event on Monday. Fey and her co-creators, Tracey Wigfield and Lang Fisher, had the death in mind from the beginning of the show, and told Carell of his fate when first pitching him on the project, she told The Hollywood Reporter. 'He was like, 'Why does this keep happening to me?'' Fey joked, after Carell's character suffered a somewhat similar ending in The Morning Show, which she admitted, 'I didn't know that when we pitched it, so that's on me. But I dug my heels in.' Of the decision to veer from the film and add in a death, Fey also explained, 'We felt like at the time that everything was sort of grounded and human scale in terms of story, and we were like we do want something to happen, and that is a thing that happens to humans.' Fisher added, 'We wanted this show to really reflect the time in the lives of these people. And when you're in your 50s, it's not like a crazy thing to imagine losing a friend. We wanted this show to have big human stakes, and so someone dying and the group having to come together to deal with that felt right.' The series was renewed for a second season shortly after its premiere, and Fey revealed they started the writer's room last week. 'It's been really nice, we have the same exact writing staff and it's already been really interesting for us to come together and share experiences, not just talk about the previous season but also our own lives,' she continued. 'The writers have been very generous — a lot of what you saw in season one, a lot is obviously from the movie but a lot also came from all of our lives.' She also added that without the movie to provide a template as in the first season, 'we are kind of starting from scratch.' Wigfield noted, 'In some ways it is hard that you're starting from scratch and don't have the movie to guide you, but in a lot of ways the second season of anything is so much easier because you've made so many choices already. We know who these characters are,' adding, 'We set up fun dynamics in the finale. Ginny is pregnant, and this friend group is kind of moving on in the wake of their friend's death. There is going to be really interesting stuff to play and already we're starting to talk about it and it's really exciting.' John Krasinski Didn't Know Brother-in-Law Stanley Tucci Was His ‘Fountain of Youth' Co-Star Until Midway Through Filming

John Krasinski is once again channeling his inner action star, following up Jack Ryan with Apple TV+ adventure flick Fountain of Youth. The film follows Krasinski and Natalie Portman as estranged siblings who team up for a global heist to find the mythological Fountain of Youth. Adding to the family ties, Krasinski's brother-in-law Stanley Tucci — who is married to Emily Blunt's sister Felicity — also co-stars in the film, though that turned out to be a surprise to Krasinski himself. 'I didn't even know he was in the movie until [director] Guy Ritchie said, 'Yeah, Stanley's gonna be in tomorrow,' and I went, 'For what?' And he went, 'This movie,' and I went, 'What?' So that just goes to show you that they're in love and they kept me out of it.' Despite his experience with stunts, the movie also challenged him, as Krasinski recounted, 'Running for a moving train is something that I haven't done before and that was very real. And I love how Guy just sort of told me how it was going to go and he said, 'You're just going to run and jump on that train as it's moving,' and I went, 'Yeah.' And he just assumed I was going to do it, so that made me just do it.' Along with Tucci, the star-studded cast also includes Eiza González, Domhnall Gleeson and Arian Moayed. González echoed Krasinski's experience with the action scenes, noting, 'I had a lot of learning curves in this. I learned a lot of stick fighting, hand combat, muay thai; I really had to expand on different styles of fighting because every single location we really wanted to engage with the style and the visual stylistic sense of each city.' Fountain of Youth starts streaming Friday on Apple TV+. Neha Joy contributed to this report.
