Braless Lena Dunham embraces Natalie Portman while filming new Netflix rom-com

Daily Mail4 days ago
Lena Dunham excitedly embraced Natalie Portman, whom she teamed up with to co-produce her new Netflix rom-com Good Sex, in Manhattan's East Village on Monday.
The 39-year-old writer-director bared her tattooed sleeves in a $148 GapStudio 'Draped Denim Slip' maxi-dress, matching blue neckerchief, and black Nike sneakers.
Lena - who boasts 3M Instagram followers - shared a snap of her fit on Monday captioned: 'Really enjoying dressing for set and beyond this summer.'
And the 44-year-old Oscar winner looked comfy in a beige T-shirt, grey sweatpants, and white Keds 'Champion Canvas Lace-Up' sneakers.
Natalie (born Neta-Lee Hershlag) hauled a tote emblazoned with The New Yorker and she wore dark sunglasses over her make-up free complexion.
Portman later got into costume as her newly-single character, successful couples therapist Ally, who's caught in a love triangle very similar to Celine Song's recent rom-com Materialists.
The former child star slipped her slim 5ft3in figure into a $2,048 Prada 'Pleated Sablé' shirt, black mini-skirt, $1,115 Jacquemus 'The Calino' ring handbag, and patent leather long-tongue loafers.
Natalie - clutching a to-go cup from Café Chrystie - also wore cat-eye sunglasses and $320 Jacquemus 'The Rond Carré' earrings as part of her costume.
Portman's younger onscreen leading man - a Brooklyn hipster - will be played by Gen-Z singer Role Model (born Tucker Pillsbury) who, at 28, is 16 years her junior.
The Israeli-born, Long Island-raised stunner's older onscreen leading man - successful Manhattanite Alan - will be played by Mark Ruffalo who, at 57, is 13 years her senior.
The four-time Oscar nominee could be seen walking and talking with Dunham as they headed to the set.
'We are about a quarter through our shoot,' the eight-time Emmy nominee told THR last week.
'And as expected, no spoilers here — Natalie Portman is a very, very good actress. It's playing with the romantic comedy form to try to say something about our expectations about relationships, about love and about sex. I think my favorite romantic comedies — whether it's When Harry Met Sally, or Four Weddings and a Funeral, or Love and Basketball — I mean, these are movies that challenge our perceptions about what love is in the era that we live in.
'So that was the goal here, and it's just a joy to be with Natalie, Rashida Jones, Mark Ruffalo, Meg Ryan, and Tucker Pillsbury a.k.a. Role Model. They're all such interesting performers who are bringing such specificity to these parts, and I'm really enjoying my time in the trenches of this genre.'
Indeed, Lena successfully courted rom-com queen Meg Ryan to play a mystery role in Good Sex after running into her at Taylor Swift's Eras Tour concert in London last August.

'I decided, it's now or never, and I'm going to shoot my shot. She couldn't be a lovelier person,' Dunham revealed to Variety earlier this month.
'Shout-out Taylor — thank you for that. She brings everyone together; she makes the world go round.'
As for the music, the Nora Ephron protégée enlisted her British-Peruvian husband of four years, Luis Felber, to compose the score just like he did with her previous projects Too Much and Sharp Stick.
Back in January, Netflix won the bidding war in order to procure Good Sex for an eye-popping $55M.
'I really just want people to sit on a couch with their moms and their besties and lean in,' Lena told Variety.
'I love watching other filmmakers fight for the theatrical-release element — but I don't think this will live or die by that.'
HarperCollins will publish Dunham's second memoir Famesick on September 1.

Darren Aronofsky's 2010 psychological thriller Black Swan - which earned Natalie her Academy Award - is returning to over 200 IMAX theaters on August 21 and 24 in honor of the 15th anniversary.
Portman famously fell for her ex-husband - choreographer/dancer Benjamin Millepied - on the set of Black Swan in 2009 while he was still dating Isabella Boylston.
Last year, the Fountain of Youth action star divorced the 48-year-old Frenchman following 11 years of marriage amid cheating allegations, and they're co-parents of son Aleph, 14; and daughter Amalia, 8.

Author of tell-all Gwyneth Paltrow biography reveals actress' stark response to her interview request

The author of Gwyneth Paltrow 's new biography has revealed whether or not the Goop goddess herself has cracked open the book - and how she responded when the writer asked to interview her for it. Writer Amy Odell, who wrote Anna Wintour 's biography in 2022, is releasing a tell-all about the famous actress that will hit stands on July 29, and it seems like it's going to be juicy. It takes a look at her entire life thus far, as the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and Bruce Paltrow. Snippets from the new biography have already been leaked, and it includes tales from former Goop staffers, details of her late '90s relationship with Brad Pitt, and the end of her friendship with pop legend Madonna. However, it doesn't seem like Paltrow had much to do with the book, nor really wanted to. In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Odell revealed whether or not she had heard from Paltrow or her 'people' about the upcoming tell-all. 'I was in touch with her team over the course of the three-year process, pretty much most of that time,' Odell shared. She explained that she asked Paltrow's team over the course of those three year if the actress wanted to speak with her. 'Right around the time I finished, I got a no,' Odell said. The author also admitted that she had 'no idea' if Paltrow had read the book. 'You would have to ask her,' the author told Vanity Fair. During the interview, Odell also shared what she believes Paltrow's legacy is - at least, so far. 'I think that she will probably be less remembered for her acting roles, no matter how iconic, than her impact with Goop, which I would argue showed the world how much money people will spend and how much effort they will undergo to be well, no matter what science and experts tell us,' she said. The new biography has already revealed a lot, including the reason why her relationship with Ben Affleck ended in 2000. An excerpt obtained by People reads: 'Their physical chemistry couldn't overcome his self-destructive impulses, which may have even included cheating on her.' According to Odell, after the couple broke up, Paltrow, who was allegedly drawn to Affleck's intellect, said, 'I love men, even though they're lying, cheating scumbags.' And it was noted by the biographer, 'Her friends had reservations about him, because he didn't always reciprocate her affection. 'He at times seemed more interested in playing video games with the guys at his house than being with Gwyneth.' Elsewhere in the coverage of Paltrow and Affleck's romance, Odell penned: 'She spoke openly about how much she enjoyed their sex life. She told [makeup artist and her friend Kevy] Aucoin one day that she loved when Affleck [engaged in a certain sex act].' The exes starred alongside each other in two films during their coupling - 1998's Shakespeare in Love, which earned Paltrow an Oscar, and 2000's rom-com Bounce.

Adolescence star Ashley Walters was 'banned from US due to criminal record'

From Top Boy to Bulletproof and Adolescence, it's fair to say that Ashley Walters is one of the shining talents in British acting today. Through sheer determination, the 43-year-old, who was born in south London, has forged a lucrative pathway for himself in the industry. Following the breakout success of Philip Barantini's Emmy-nominated Adolescence on Netflix, which starred Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper, Walters is currently working on an M. Night Shyamalan supernatural thriller called Remain alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. This came after Steven Spielberg's office called him asking him to consider a role in his latest film. However, many fans might not realise that this is Ashley's first ever major role in a US movie. Wake up to find news on your TV shows in your inbox every morning with Metro's TV Newsletter. Speaking to Variety, the actor shed light on his long journey to success and how he was 'basically banned' from America for two decades due to his criminal record. 'Five years ago there was absolutely no chance that I was going to be in this position,' Ashley told the publication. 'I was basically banned from the country. There were visa issues. I had a criminal record.' In 2002, Walters – who was just 19 – was sentenced to 18 months in a young offenders institution for possession of an illegal firearm. Despite having already appeared on a number of TV roles, including BBC's Grange Hill, after his first acting role at the age of 10 in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Walters was known for being in the hip hop group the So Solid Crew. In the end, he only ended up serving seven months of his sentence after promising to focus on acting. He said: 'After a few years of not being able to get a visa, I said to myself, 'Well, it's not going to happen for me, I've got to make do with what I've got and fulfil my career and my destiny here in the U.K.' So I kind of stopped worrying about it.' Taking that advice, he began to build his acting profile, winning best newcomer at the British Independent Film Award for his lead performance in Saul Dibb's Bullet Boy in 2004. Other roles included Speed Racer and 50 Cent's Get Rich or Die Tryin, which was filmed in Ireland. His career then truly began to take off after the 2011 gangland drama series Top Boy, which was pulled from Channel 4 in 2014, but flourished again on Netflix five years later. View More » Now, with numerous opportunities presenting themselves to him in the States, Ashley concluded by saying: 'It's another reason why I cherish this moment so much. I want to do everything I can before someone takes away that visa on my passport.' Got a story? Comedy hailed as 'the best show on TV right now' is cancelled after 4 seasons

A hilarious comedy with a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score has been canceled after four seasons. Resident Alien first premiered in 2021, with Superman star Alan Tudyk leading the cast alongside Linda Hamilton, Nathan Fillion, Michael Cassidy and Sara Tomko. The cult classic sci-fi series airs on USA, and is also available to stream on Netflix in the UK. It is based on the comic book of the same name, following alien Harry after he crash lands in a small town in Colorado and befriends the locals. Unfortunately for his new pals, it turns he's actually on a secret mission to kill everyone on Earth, but is forced to blend into his surroundings by pretending to be a doctor. Although the fourth season is currently unfolding on our screens, TV bosses have confirmed that the upcoming episodes will be the last. Creator Chris Sheridan spoke to TV Insider about the show coming to an end, explaining: 'I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season. 'Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. 'I'm so proud of how good season four is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series.' That finale is set to air on August 8, meaning there isn't too long to wait to see how Harry and the gang end up. Alan reacted to the news on Threads, posting: 'It was a hell of a fun playground to play in. Laughter through the tears:))).' Resident Alien currently claims a 98% score on Rotten Tomatoes – with seasons two and four landing perfect 100% rankings from critics. Heaping praise on the program, Zack S commented: 'The best show on TV right now!' More Trending 'I've rewatched this show many times and it still makes me laugh,' Bildad T agreed. Diana R hailed: 'This is my favorite show by far!! I could and do watch all seasons on repeat. 'The humor and acting are top notch! Looking forward to more seasons!!!' View More » As Elizabeth C added: 'Resident Alien is scifi humor at its best. Sometimes shows like this diminish as the seasons go on, but I was exceedingly happy to see that Season 4 is just as good as the previous seasons.' Got a story?
