One of the top summer travel destinations in the U.S. is in Wisconsin, says Google Flights
With summer finally approaching, millions of travelers are expected to board flights from Milwaukee's Mitchell International Airport. It's too early to accurately predict this summer's passenger counts, said airport spokesperson Summer Hegranes. However, she said this year should be somewhat similar to 2024, which saw more than 1.7 million passengers between June and August, according to airport data. Generally, holiday periods such as Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day are the busiest at the airport. July is typically the busiest travel month of the summer, said Hegranes in an email. Milwaukee did see a 5% increase in travelers last year compared to the previous year, with 6,316,245 passengers in 2024, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel previously reported. Here's a guide on when to purchase your tickets for your summer vacation, plus a look at some of the top travel destinations for summer, according to Google Flights. Average prices for U.S. flights are usually cheapest around 38 days before departure, with the historical low price range between 21 to 52 days before takeoff, according to Google Flights. Airlines do offer special deals for destinations from Milwaukee, and you can find the latest airfare deals here. The best deals are usually posted on Tuesday, but sales can be posted at any time, according to the airport. 9 Smart ways to save on flight tickets while planning a summer vacation
As school exams wrap up across the country and summer vacations already started, families are gearing up to plan their holidays. But with flight prices on the rise, finding affordable tickets can be a challenge. Fortunately, a few simple tricks can help you score cheaper fares and make your travel budget go further. Here's how: Use Incognito Mode This is a tried-and-tested trick. Airlines and booking platforms often track your search history using cookies, potentially showing higher fares when you return to book the same flight. Avoid this by using your browser's Incognito Mode or clearing cookies before each search. Check airline websites directly by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Ecocity 2.0 - Exclusive Address Off Sarjapur SPA Group Bangalore Get Quote Undo While comparison platforms are useful, sometimes airline websites themselves offer better deals. Many feature a calendar view that highlights the cheapest days to fly within your travel window. Install flight price tracker extensions Web browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge support extensions such as Flight Fare Compare and CheaperThere. These tools notify you when flight prices drop for your selected routes. Use Google Flights Google Flights is a powerful tool that compares fares across booking sites and provides a 60-day price history. It also tells you whether a ticket's price is low, average, or high based on historical trends. Avoid booking on weekends and public holidays Flight searches usually spike on weekends and holidays, often pushing prices up due to higher demand. If possible, conduct your searches midweek to spot better deals. Follow airlines on social media platforms Airlines and travel platforms frequently announce flash sales and special promotions on their official social media accounts. Following them can give you an edge in snagging limited-time offers. Choose off-peak flight times Daytime and early morning flights tend to be more expensive due to higher demand. Flexibility with your departure time—such as flying late at night—can often unlock better fares. Be flexible with travel dates If you can afford to shift your trip by a day or two, you may find significantly lower prices. Many platforms allow you to compare fares across a range of dates to help you choose the most economical option. Use Travel Cards and Airline Loyalty Programmes Banks offer travel-specific credit cards with perks like cashback, discounts and exclusive booking offers. Meanwhile, frequent flyers should take advantage of airline loyalty programmes to earn and redeem points or miles for future flights. This TikTok trick finds the cheapest summer flights (if you know how to use it right)
If you've opened TikTok lately, you've probably seen this viral travel tip: open Google Flights, enter your departure airport, leave the destination blank, plug in your dates and hit search. A map of the world pops up, showing flight prices to everywhere from Chicago to Copenhagen. It's easy to see why this hack is blowing up right now: travelers are trying to book affordable summer trips without knowing where they can afford to go. And this little trick turns flight booking into a fun, choose-your-own-adventure game. But there's a catch — and a way to use it that goes beyond just spinning the globe. Here's how to do it right if you actually want to score a deal. TikTokers often miss this key step: click the date field and choose 'flexible dates.' You'll get a matrix of the cheapest months, weekends or weeks to travel. This alone can cut your flight cost in half. Bonus tip: Midweek departures (especially Tuesdays and Wednesdays) are almost always cheaper than Fridays and Sundays. Many flights that look like deals come with brutal 12-hour layovers or arrive at 2 a.m. Always use the 'duration,' 'stops,' and 'airline' filters on the Google Flights sidebar. This helps you avoid the bait-and-switch pricing that looks great on the map but turns out to be a headache. You can manually test other departure airports — or if you're open to a road trip, try entering a region like 'Southern California' or 'New York area.' Some creators have scored major savings flying out of nearby secondary airports like Long Beach instead of LAX or Islip instead of JFK. Prices on Google Flights can change within hours. Once you find a deal you like, click through to the airline's site and book directly. TikTokers say skipping third-party booking engines helps with cancellations and rebooking — and I agree. Even if you don't book right away, click the 'track prices' toggle on Google Flights. You'll get email alerts when prices rise or fall — no need to refresh 12 times a day. It's the least flashy part of the hack, but arguably the most powerful. This TikTok trick isn't just a gimmick — it's a smart, flexible way to plan a summer vacation around where the deals are, not just where you think you want to go. But if you don't use the filters and flexible dates tools, you're not getting the full value. So go ahead and spin the globe! Just be strategic when you click.
