Cheap flights and free upgrades with expert holiday hacks

Flying on certain days can also help reduce costs. Midweek flights - particularly on Wednesdays and Saturdays - are often the most affordable for international journeys, while Tuesdays and Fridays tend to offer the best value for domestic flights.
Travelling during off-peak hours, such as early mornings or late evenings, can result in further savings.
'By combining smart planning with the right perks and tools, you can make your holiday budget go further - without compromising on comfort or experience," says Andrew Harrison-Chinn, of travel perks and benefits company Dragonpass, with over 1300 airport lounges.
"Keeping an eye on AI-powered travel aggregators that compare flight prices and offer tailored recommendations based on your preferences can help you secure the most cost-effective options.
'Setting up price alerts using tools like Google Flights or Kayak is a smart way to track fare fluctuations and book when prices drop. You might also try browsing in incognito mode or clearing your cookies - some travellers believe this can prevent dynamic pricing based on search history, though results can vary.
"Using a VPN to check fares from different locations can sometimes reveal lower prices, as airlines and booking sites occasionally adjust rates based on your geographic region. In addition, websites like Voyage Privé offer time-limited deals on luxury holidays, giving you access to high-end stays at discounted rates."
He also recommends leveraging loyalty perks and rewards programmes.
"Many credit card providers and banks offer travel-related benefits like airport lounge access, Fast Track services, and more as part of their loyalty programmes," he says.

'Many financial institutions benefit from extremely competitive pricing of services due to the packaging up of products as well as being able to get cheaper pricing due to larger volume of customers.
'Having a relationship with the bank or card provider will allow you access to these packages of products. Should the package of products be relevant to you, say travel insurance, airport lounge and fast track access, hotel, and flight discounts, these are very efficient ways to get more value for less cost on your travels.
"Some card providers even offer spend based rewards when you use their card abroad – for example spend X amount and get a free airport lounge visit – rewarding customers with their preferred behaviours."
Don't forget loyalty points can often be used for holidays or extras, but they can take time to earn.

'Alternatively, there are points-based schemes which take much longer to accumulate, however when you have sufficient points these can be redeemed against flights (bookings or upgrades) or other products and services to achieve significant savings.'
His final tips are for the trip itself: "Don't forget practical tools like eSIMs when travelling abroad," he says.
"If Wi-Fi isn't readily available, using an eSIM can significantly reduce roaming charges and keep you connected without the hefty fees."

Martin Lewis issues important passport warning ahead of school holidays

Martin Lewis was back in the This Morning studio today, as he offered his expert advice during the phone in segment - and there was one urgent warning he relayed about passports Martin Lewis was back on This Morning with his expert advice today (July 22) and issued an important warning to those getting ready to jet off on holiday this summer. ‌ As schools are out for the term, many families will be jetting off for their annual trip - but Martin Lewis wanted to make sure they weren't caught out as they arrive at the airport. ‌ Caller Alan gave the show a call for some passport advice, as he revealed he'd be jetting off to Kuala Lumpur in September and then on to Bali. However, his passport expires in July 2026. Martin revealed he would be fine for the six month rule, but later asked the important question: "Will your passport be over 10 years old on the day you go to Indonesia?" ‌ Alan then revealed that the date of issue was 25 January 2016, with his passport expiring on 25th July 2026. Martin then responded: "None of this is an issue. I don't know the rules for Indonesia off the top of my head - but you've got over six months on your passport on the day you enter, and your passport is 10 years old on the day you enter - you're fine." Many countries require at least six months validity on a passport for entry to be granted - and many Brits have been caught out and turned away from the airport due to this rule. ‌ For those travelling to Europe - many have been caught out by the 10-year-rule. UK travellers were previously able to carry up to nine months from an old passport over on to a new one. But post-Brexit, EU countries will now not accept passports issued more than 10 years ago. If your passport was issued after 2018 - there's no need to worry about the rule, as they are valid for exactly 10 years. ‌ However, if a UK passport was issued before September 2018, it could be valid for up to 10 years and nine months. It means some people have passports that have not officially expired, and are valid for travel in the rest of the world, but not in parts of Europe as they were issued more than ten years ago However, every country is different and holiday goers should visit foreign travel advice for the country you are visiting to find out what the entry requirements are. Martin's warning came after he made a huge career switch up, making his comedy debut last night. BBC comedy series Mandy returned, with Martin making his acting debut. The programme, which stars actress Dianne Morgan as protagonist Mandy Carter aired last night on BBCOne. ‌ As he posted a clip of his debut on Instagram, fans were left in stitches, as they praised the star for his acting skills. "This is literally so amazing. Not only because I love what you do, but also because I am an aesthetic injector myself. It's like my two favourite worlds colliding," penned one, while another said: "Hilarious! How many takes did it take?!"

We encourage guests to enjoy all these treats – and to take away for mid-morning snacks too. "Guests, who are mostly not following vegetarian or vegan diets, tell us they enjoy a break from the full Scottish breakfast when staying at Roskhill. They enjoy discovering Scottish recipes and ingredients, and are particularly taken by our commitment to sustainability, and our ability to adapt to specific dietary requirements too." Now in its 29th year, the AA gongs celebrate establishments that go the extra mile, from meticulous housekeeping and memorable breakfasts to authentic service and unforgettable stays. This year's winners impressed AA inspectors with their individuality, attention to detail, and unwavering dedication to guest experience. They go beyond offering a bed for the night - they offer character, comfort and care that stays with you long after check-out.' Among the other winners were a stunning lochside restaurant with rooms and a tiny inn on a 'secret coast'.
