Expedite work of Sahjanwa–Dohrighat rail line project: DC

Gorakhpur: Divisional commissioner Anil Dhingra on Friday reviewed the progress of the Sahjanwa–Dohrighat new rail line project. In a meeting with officials of the North Eastern Railway (NER), the Commissioner discussed in detail the challenges being faced in implementing the project. Expressing displeasure over delays in land acquisition in villages under Sahjanwa, Bansgaon and Gola tehsils, he directed the concerned SDMs to coordinate with railway officials at the earliest, obtain village-wise land records for their respective areas, and expedite the acquisition process. He also instructed them to submit a progress report within a fortnight. The railway officials were further asked to provide a list of villages falling within the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) area that are covered under the project. Officials said the project will boost the region's development and open up a new route from Gorakhpur to Varanasi and Prayagraj. Once completed, it is expected to create fresh employment opportunities for residents, entrepreneurs and farmers. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). UP govt acquires 600 acres in Gorakhpur for new industrial township

While Gida has acquired 600 acres for the township in the 17 villages, the acquisition process is ongoing to increase the land inventory Virendra Singh Rawat Lucknow The Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has acquired 600 acres in Gorakhpur, the political stronghold of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, to attract investment and accelerate industrial growth in the state's eastern region (Purvanchal). The site has been slated for the development of a modern industrial township under the Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority. The proposed 'Dhuriyapar Industrial Township' or 'Greater Gida' aims to increase investments in Eastern UP, which lags Western UP. Gida Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Anuj Malik said the master plan for the township has been approved, and the land allotment process —spanning two industrial sectors — will begin soon. While Gida has acquired 600 acres for the township in the 17 villages, the acquisition process is ongoing to increase the land inventory. Leading companies, including the Adani group, are interested in setting up their units in the Greater Gida enclave. According to officials, the Adani group was considering setting up a cement factory under the ACC brand. Shree Cement and Keyaan Distillery have also sought parcels for their greenfield projects in the township. The Yogi-led government was also planning to establish an electronic manufacturing cluster within the township, officials added. Once completed, the Dhuriyapar Industrial Township would become one of the largest industrial land banks in Purvanchal. The recently inaugurated 91 km Gorakhpur Link Expressway will also boost the prospects of the upcoming industrial hub. At the UP Global Investors Summit (GIS) in February 2023, the state had secured fresh investment proposals worth ~40 trillion. The state now plans to host the GIS 2.0 in the current financial year. Major private investor, SLMG Beverages, a Coca-Cola bottling partner, was planning a phased investment of ~8,000 crore to expand its supply network, the company's deputy CEO Rahul Kumar said. SLMG holds nearly 50 per cent of the beverage market share in UP, and operates 7 bottling plants across eastern and western regions. The growing network of expressways, airports, proposed logistics and export hubs has contributed to a marked improvement in the 'ease of doing business' perception, thus translating into growing private investment. Besides manufacturing, the Yogi government is also promoting the services sectors, viz. tourism and information technology (IT) sectors, for boosting socioeconomic development and creating jobs.

Farmers prosper as Gorakhpur e-way turns into reality

Gorakhpur: The Gorakhpur Link Expressway has become not only a symbol of fast-paced connectivity and regional development, but also of farmer prosperity. Yogi govt ensured landowners who contributed their land for the mega project were duly rewarded. As many as 22,029 farmers were paid compensation of Rs 2030 crore in a transparent process, laying foundation for a development model built on trust and participation. Spread across four districts—Gorakhpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Ambedkar Nagar, and Azamgarh—the project required acquisition of 1,149 hectares of land from 172 villages. Compensation payments were made through direct benefit transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and timeliness. Of the total land acquired, Gorakhpur district contributed maximum, with 570.73 hectares from 88 villages. A compensation of Rs 1,248.28 crore was disbursed to 1,2935 farmers. In Ambedkar Nagar, Rs 438.04 crore was paid to 4,741 farmers for 297.88 hectares. Azamgarh saw 3931 farmers receive Rs 328.71 crore for 259.25 hectares, while in Sant Kabir Nagar, 422 farmers received Rs 15.26 crore for 20.91 hectares. Govt's farmer-first approach was evident when Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath honoured 500 land-contributing farmers at a special ceremony held in 2020 in GIDA (Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority) area. The Chief Minister felicitated 40 of them. The expressway, stretching 91.35 km from Gorakhpur to Azamgarh, is now set to be inaugurated on Friday. As the corridor prepares to fuel industrial growth, farmer cooperation and trust stand out as the true pillars of this success story.

CM Yogi assures financial aid to patients sans Ayushman cards

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday assured full financial assistance to patients suffering from serious illnesses who do not possess Ayushman Bharat cards. During the Janata Darshan at the Mahant Digvijaynath Smriti Bhawan auditorium within Gorakhnath Temple complex in Gorakhpur on Wednesday, CM Yogi directed officials to prepare cost estimates for such patients to facilitate aid through the Chief Minister's Discretionary Fund. Emphasising that lack of funds should not delay medical treatment, he said the government will ensure the best possible care. He also ordered officials to ensure all eligible individuals are issued Ayushman Bharat cards without delay. 'Get an estimate from the doctor, and the government will ensure you receive financial support,' the CM told a woman at the public interaction. Yogi listened to the grievances of over 200 people and handed their applications to officials concerned with clear instructions for timely and satisfactory resolution. Laying stress on the importance of seriousness and accountability, he reiterated that no genuine concern should remain unaddressed. Reviewing the impact of pre-monsoon showers, the CM asked officials to take effective steps to prevent waterlogging and demanded updates on the delayed Gordhiya Drain project. He also questioned the municipal corporation on steps taken to ensure proper drainage and underlined the importance of maintaining cleanliness to prevent waterlogging. During a review meeting, the chief minister assessed the progress of ongoing projects under Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA), Gorakhpur Development Authority (GDA), and the municipal corporation. He also inquired about the status of the Heritage Corridor project. He instructed officials to remain vigilant about emerging roadside slums, verify street vendors to ensure smooth traffic, and take strict legal action against land encroachers and those involved in unlawful activities.
