Siouxland elementary students gifted helmets as part of injury prevention program
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — With warmer weather comes the resurgence of bicycles, and a nonprofit in Siouxland is reminding kids of the importance of wearing a helmet.
'Gotta Brain… Getta Helmet' is a injury prevention program that educates second-graders about the steps they need to protect their brains.
On Monday at Spalding Park Environmental Sciences Elementary School, the second-graders each received their own helmet to wear.

'If we can prevent one brain injury, we think that's rather special, and we really reach out to second grade students, who at that point in time are riding bikes and skateboards and all that, so they're at such a great age and time in their life to really understand safety,' said Opportunities Unlimited CEO and President Jennifer McCabe.
Opportunities Unlimited has been to 14 schools across Siouxland, sharing the importance of wearing a helmet with students.
