Highway 560 reopens after fatal motorcycle crash

(File photo/Ontario Provincial Police/X) A fatal motorcycle crash closed Highway 560 in Gowganda, Ont., for several hours, Ontario Provincial Police confirmed Saturday afternoon. The Temiskaming detachment responded to reports of a 'serious' single-vehicle collision on Highway 560 at Fourth Avenue shortly before 9 a.m. The 74-year-old male driver, from Dungannon in the Township of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency crews, including paramedics and fire services, assisted at the location. Police confirmed no other vehicles were involved. Temporary road closure and ongoing investigation OPP announced the road closure just before 11:30 a.m., warning drivers to avoid the area. 'Please avoid the area and expect lengthy closures,' police wrote on social media. The Ministry of Transportation's Ontario 511 Travellers Information service also confirmed the crash and closure about that time. Ontario 511 said the roadway reopened about 3:30 p.m. No detours were listed during the closure. Authorities said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. OPP are asking anyone with information or video footage to contact them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

The crash, announced by Ontario Provincial Police just before 11:30 a.m., has closed the roadway at Fourth Avenue. 'Please avoid the area and expect lengthy closures,' police said on social media. OPP said members of the Temiskaming detachment are on scene. The Ministry of Transportation's Ontario 511 Travellers Information service confirmed the crash and resulting road closure shortly after police.
