Twin Cities weekend: Grand Old Day, county rodeo, Turtle Fest

One of the Cities' biggest street festivals returns this Saturday to kick off summer in St. Paul. What to expect: Grand Old Day, which runs from 9am-6pm down Grand Avenue from Dale to Snelling, kicks off with an early 5K run before the parade begins at 9:30am. The festival itself has six stages and four "entertainment zones" with food, artist markets, sports and family fun — plus a car show and wiener dog races. If you go: Most activities are free, but access to five of the six stages and the beverage garden requires a Music Pass, which ranges from $13-$18 for general admission to $30 for pit entry. Snelling Avenue and St. Clair Avenue intersection closing intermittently

The intersection of Snelling and St. Clair avenues will be closed intermittently beginning Friday as construction in the area wraps up. The intersection will shut down at 6 a.m. Friday, May 30, and open again at 6 a.m. Sunday, June 1, to accommodate Grand Old Day traffic. The intersection will be shut down again at 9 p.m. Monday until 6 a.m. Tuesday, then again from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 6 a.m. Wednesday, June 4, when work is expected to be complete. The resurfacing of a half-mile of Snelling Avenue between St. Clair and Grand avenues began last year and includes building bump-outs and ADA-compliant crossings at all intersections. The work wraps up with replacement of the signal system at Snelling and St. Clair avenues and resurfacing of the intersection and installing ADA-compliant crossings. For the first time, a 'cannabis garden' will set up next to Grand Old Day

Grand Old Day is looking a little different in 2025. It's not back to bringing in splashy national acts to perform along the St. Paul corridor, but it has one of its best musical lineups in many years. It'll also have a "cannabis garden" alongside its beer gardens for the first time in its more than 50-year history. Most of its six stages will have beer gardens, but the Nothing But Canna stage will instead, appropriately, serve THC drinks. The stage is sponsored by Nothing But Hemp, which will sell drinks from its patio next to the stage at Grotto Street and Grand. Representatives for the festival tell Bring Me the News that there will not be any on-street sales for cannabis products, but existing Grand Avenue businesses can sell their existing, legal THC products in-store. The Nothing But Canna stage will feature the International Reggae Allstars featuring Singing Tony throughout the day. Grand Old Day takes place on Sunday, June 1, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. More details can be found at the Grand Avenue Business Association's website.
