Grand Ronde motorcyclist dies in crash with semitruck on Highway 18
A 50-year-old Grand Ronde man driving a motorcycle died June 15 in a crash with a semitruck on Highway 18, according to Oregon State Police. Police responded to the crash at about 7:07 p.m. on Highway 18 near Grand Ronde, according to a news release. Responding officers found an eastbound Freightliner semitruck driven by a 19-year-old from Salem turned left into a gravel lot and entered the path of a westbound Kawasaki ZX-18 motorcycle, the release said. The motorcycle, operated by Joseph Nicholas Grammer, collided with the semitruck. Grammer was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said. The driver of the semitruck was uninjured. The highway was impacted for about three hours while police investigated. The crash remains under investigation. Traffic alert: Highway 99W closed between Salem and Oregon Coast after crash
Highway 99W was closed between Salem and the Oregon Coast due to a crash at milepost 18, Oregon Department of Transportation reported on May 26. All lanes were closed in both directions east of Grand Ronde due to the crash, which was reported at 1:55 p.m. A detour has been set up that uses McDougall Rd.
