Every govt staff should plant at least 1 tree: CS
Lucknow: Chief secretary (CS) Manoj Kumar Singh has stated that every officer and govt employee should plant at least one tree during the mega tree plantation drive on July 9 and also initiate steps to protect it. Chairing a meeting of commissioners and district magistrates on Friday, the CS said UP ranks second in the country for increasing green cover which went up by 3.38 lakh acres between 2017 and 2023. He said that the tree plantation this year is dedicated to 'Ek Ped Ma ke Naam'. Between 2017 and 2021, UP's green cover increased by two lakh acres and from 2021 to 2023, forest and tree cover increased by another 1.38 lakh acres. "To make the campaign a big success it should be ensured that the demand for saplings is met on time. Under this campaign, large-scale tree plantation should be carried out along riverbanks. Extensive tree plantation should be along expressways and highways," the CS said. He added that beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana and families identified under the zero poverty campaign should plant two drumstick trees each.
