Ahead of Durga Puja, Kolkata Metro expands with 14 additional services on three lines
With Durga Puja festivities around the corner, Kolkata Metro has announced a significant increase in services across its Green and Purple Lines to accommodate the anticipated rush of commuters. The new schedules, which take effect on Monday, August 11, will see more frequent trains and extended operating hours. Green Line-1 (Sealdah to Salt Lake Sector V) Commuters on the Green Line-1 will see an increase from 106 to 108 daily services (54 up and 54 down). The service hours are also being extended, with the first train now departing at 6:35 am from Sealdah (instead of 6:55 am) and at 6:40 AM from Salt Lake Sector V (instead of 7 am). The last service times remain unchanged at 9:35 pm from Sealdah and 9:40 pm from Salt Lake Sector V. These changes are applicable from Monday to Saturday, with no services on Sundays. Green Line-2 (Howrah Maidan to Esplanade) The Green Line-2 will now operate a total of 134 services daily (67 up and 67 down), a notable increase from the previous 130. The first trains will now depart 30 minutes earlier at 6:30 am from both Howrah Maidan and Esplanade, compared to the old 7 am start time. Last service times will remain the same at 9:45 pm. Unlike Green Line-1, this section will continue to have regular services on Sundays. Purple Line (Joka to Majerhat) The Purple Line is also receiving a service boost, with the number of daily trains increasing from 72 to 80 (40 up and 40 down). The service hours are being significantly extended. The first train from Joka will now leave at 6:50 am (instead of 8 am), while the first service from Majerhat will depart at 7:14 am (instead of 7:57 am). The last trains will also run later, with the final service from Joka at 8:36 pm (instead of 8:15 pm) and from Majerhat at 8:57 pm (instead of 8:15 pm). Metro Railway to run more trains on Kolkata's Green Line, Purple Line from August 11
Synopsis Kolkata Metro is set to boost its services. More trains will run on Green Line-1, Green Line-2, and Purple Line. The increased services will start on August 11. Green Line-1 will have 108 trains. Green Line-2 will operate 134 trains. Purple Line will see 80 trains running. Service hours will also be extended on all three lines. Kolkata, To meet the demand of commuters, Metro Railway Kolkata will increase train services on the Green Line-1, Green Line-2 and Purple Line from August 11, an official statement said. On Green Line - 1 (Sealdah-Salt Lake Sector V), a total of 108 trains (54 UP + 54 DN) will be operated, the statement said on Saturday.. At present, 106 trains (53 UP + 53 DN) are being operated daily from Monday to Saturday on Green hours on this corridor will also increase from 6:35 am to 10 pm instead of 6:55 am to 10 train services will be available in Green Line 1 on Sundays. At present, 72 trains (36 UP + 36 DN) are being operated daily from Monday to Friday on Purple Line. Train service hours on this corridor will also go up to 6:50 am to 9:14 pm instead of 7.57 am to 8:32 pm.

Kolkata Metro to run early trains for UPSC candidates on May 25
Written by Adrija Datta In a move aimed at facilitating candidates appearing for the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2025, Kolkata Metro Railway will operate additional and early morning services on the Blue Line (North-South Corridor) this Sunday, May 25. According to metro authorities, operations on the Blue Line will begin at 7 am, two hours earlier than the standard Sunday schedule. The first trains will depart simultaneously at 7 am from both Kavi Subhash to Dakshineswar and from Noapara to Kavi Subhash. Additionally, an early service will run from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash at 7:20 am. This initiative is expected to ease travel for thousands of candidates heading to various examination centres across Kolkata. A total of 138 train services—69 in each direction—will be operated on the Blue Line throughout the day, instead of the regular 130 services. Between 7 am and 9 am, trains will run at intervals of 30 minutes in both directions. 'The early and additional metro services will provide UPSC candidates with timely, reliable, and stress-free access to examination centres across the city, ensuring smooth and convenient travel on a crucial day,' an official said. The final departure timings of the last trains on the Blue Line will remain unchanged. The last train from Kavi Subhash to Dakshineswar will leave at 9:27 pm, while the final train from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash will depart at 9:33 pm. The last train from Kavi Subhash to Dumdum will continue to operate as per its usual schedule at 9:40 pm. Meanwhile, train services on the Green Line-2 (Esplanade to Howrah Maidan) will remain unaffected and continue as per the normal timetable on May 25. In keeping with the standard Sunday schedule, there will be no services on Green Line-1 (Salt Lake Sector V – Sealdah), the Purple Line (Joka – Esplanade), and the Orange Line (Kavi Subhash – Hemanta Mukhopadhyay). E-W's Esp-Sealdah leg gets fire dept nod
Kolkata: The East-West Metro 's Esplanade-Sealdah section has received the fire safety certificate . In the run-up to the section's launch, 90 services will be operated in the Sealdah-Sector V section on Tuesday instead of the usual 106. The endorsement from the state fire department is a prerequisite for approval from the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS). On April 12, fire inspections were carried out along the 2.6km leg. The CRS inspected the stretch on Sunday. The corridor, also known as the Green Line, now runs in two sections – the 9.4 km Sector V-Sealdah and the 4.8 km Esplanade-Howrah Maidan. The Esplanade-Sealdah section will link the two sections. In the run-up to the entire Green Line's launch, Green Line-1 (Sealdah-Sector V) will run 90 services on Tuesday. Normal services will run along Green Line-2 (Howrah Maidan-Esplanade).
