Seahawks are being slept on, according to 49ers reporter

Seahawks are being slept on, according to 49ers reporter The Seattle Seahawks have not won the NFC West since the 2020 season, as the title has been claimed by the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams over the last few seasons. In 2024, the Seahawks came the closest they have in in several years, narrowly losing out to the Rams based on a 5th tiebreaker in Week 17. Seattle is gunning for the NFC West crown, and only one reporter outside of the Emerald City seems to be taking notice. 49ers reporter Grant Cohen took to his personal Twitter account to mention he believes folks are sleeping on the Seahawks, and we cannot help but agree with him. It remains to be seen if Seattle did enough to actually improve their offensive line. Drafting NDSU's Grey Zabel in the first round should be an immediate upgrade over Laken Tomlinson, and adding a more veteran offensive coaching staff could bring more out of the guys already with the team. But the jury is more than out on if that will be enough to raise the floor for this offensive unit as a whole. Still, the Seahawks are a team that should be considered trending upwards. Of course, as we at Seahawks Wire have repeatedly said, this Seattle squad is rolling the dice on more than a few bets. The Seahawks are gambling their moves will be enough to help them get over the hump from good-to-great, but there is significant bust potential. The ceiling has been raised, but the lower got lower.

Grey Zabel threw first pitch at the Mariners game on Friday night

Part of the fun of being a first round draft pick is being paraded around as a local celebrity during the summer. Such is the case for offensive guard Grey Zabel, who was selected by the Seattle Seahawks at No. 18 overall in the 2025 NFL draft. Zabel has gone from the great plains of Fargo, ND to the Emerald City of Seattle. Safe to say his life has changed considerably in these last several weeks, as Zabel will be experiencing plenty of "firsts" in his blossoming NFL career. Next up on his "firsts" is probably throwing out the first pitch at an MLB game, which he did on Friday night. The Seattle Mariners opened the first of a three-game series against the Minnesota Twins, and the man they picked to ceremoniously kick things off (so to speak) was Grey Zabel, who threw out the first pitch. Things continued well for the Mariners after Zabel's opening pitch. Star catcher Cal Raleigh opened things up with a three-run homer in the first inning, which was followed by Randy Arozarena smashing a solo-shot 377 feet to make it a 4-0 to start. The Twins eventually cut the lead to 4-3, but Raleigh struck once again with his second dinger of the night... a 380-foot blast in the eighth to make it a 6-3 ballgame. Advertisement Unfortunately, that's where the good vibes for the M's ended. Seattle's All-Star closer, Andrés Muñoz, laid an uncharacteristic egg in the ninth. Up to this point, Muñoz had not surrendered an earned run all season long, gave up three to make it a 6-6 game. Painfully, the tying-run was scored with two outs for Minnesota. From there, the meltdown was on. Seattle's relief pitcher, Casey Legumina, gave up six runs in the top of the 10th inning and the Mariners would go on to lose 12-6. This was the second-straight game for Seattle giving up six or more runs in the tenth inning. Over the last two games, the Mariners have allowed opponents to score 16 runs in the ninth and tenth innings. Yikes. Seattle has lost seven of their last ten games, and ss a result, the Mariners have been knocked from their perch atop the AL West This article originally appeared on Seahawks Wire: Seahawks OG Grey Zabel threw the first pitch at Mariners vs Twins game

Seahawks took a new direction in 2025 NFL draft and it shows

Seahawks took a new direction in 2025 NFL draft and it shows The Seattle Seahawks entered the 2025 NFL draft with a clear strategy. Long-time general manager John Schneider is still acclimating to how second-year head coach Mike Macdonald wants to build the roster. Furthermore, offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is the new play-caller, leading to additional changes in how the Seahawks acquire talent. It appears the Seahawks targeted athleticism all throughout the 2025 NFL draft. First-round guard Grey Zabel is an athletic and versatile blocker. Second-round safety Nick Emmanwori put forth one of the most breathtaking performances at the NFL Combine in recent memory. The strategy remained in place all throughout the draft. Sixth-round guard Bryce Cabeldue is a 99th percentile athlete for the position. Pro Football Focus recently made note of this approach. "Seattle focused on elite athleticism throughout the 2025 draft, stockpiling explosive prospects across multiple positions as the franchise transitions into a new era," Dalton Wasserman recently wrote. "Offensive lineman Grey Zabel brings rare versatility, having played all five positions along the line during his career at North Dakota State. Safety Nick Emmanwori enters the league as one of the most dynamic and athletic defensive backs in recent memory." "Tight end Elijah Arroyo brings big-play potential as a vertical threat, leading the FBS with 16.9 yards per reception last season," Wasserman continued. "And at quarterback, the Seahawks added the most athletic signal-caller in the class in Jalen Milroe — a true dual-threat weapon with game-breaking ability. With speed and flexibility now infused into the roster, Seattle is clearly building a more dynamic and unpredictable offense for the future." The Seahawks showcased a shifting strategy during the 2025 NFL draft. Schneider, Macdonald, and Kubiak want to revamp the roster with outstanding athletes. It was mission accomplished, following the additions of talents like Zabel, Emmanwori, Cabeldue, and Jalen Milroe.
