A new historical marker honors Georgia author, journalist, and humorist Lewis Grizzard. The Georgia Historical Society, in partnership with the town of Moreland, dedicated the marker in Grizzard's memory. He was raised in the Coweta County town. Grizzard was a syndicated journalist who became one of the South's most recognized voices and a best-selling author. Eighteen of his 25 books were New York Times bestsellers. Grizzard launched his journalism career at the University of Georgia, and by age 23, he was the youngest executive sports editor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He died in 1994 at the age of 47. Baker Mayfield Speaks Out on Differences of Buccaneers Play-Callers

Baker Mayfield Speaks Out on Differences of Buccaneers Play-Callers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has been in the NFL since 2018. During that time, he has had nine different offensive coordinators/play-callers to work with. Advertisement That includes stops with the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, and Los Angeles Rams. Eight coordinators in seven seasons. Insanity. He is about to work with his ninth on that list. With Liam Coen taking the head coaching job in Jacksonville, Josh Grizzard has been promoted to play-caller and offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay. With Grizzard having already been in the organization, there's reason to suspect there won't be many changes with Tampa Bay's offense. That may not be the case, though. During OTAs, Mayfield detailed the differences between Grizzard and Coen as play-callers. "Liam and I were close in L.A., and he was great for me last year," Mayfield said via CBS Sports reporter Pete Prisco. "Griz has his own tweaks on it. He's handled it well. Things aren't just going to transfer from one season to the next. Nothing we did last year matters. The foundation is there." Advertisement There's good reason to believe that Mayfield won't miss a beat with Grizzard. Tampa Bay's offense is among the most talented in the league, with a future Pro Football Hall of Famer in Mike Evans and a 1,000-yard rusher in Bucky Irving. If Grizzard can keep Tampa Bay's offense humming, the Buccaneers could be set to win their fifth straight division title. And potentially show that while he hasn't had stability in his play-caller, Mayfield can work well in any system. Buccaneers Tight End Confident In Offensive Level Up With Josh Grizzard

Buccaneers Tight End Confident In Offensive Level Up With Josh Grizzard originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offense last season under Liam Coen was one of the best in football. Advertisement With Baker Mayfield orchestrating things, and Mike Evans, Jalen McMillan, Bucky Irving, Rachaad White, and tight end Cade Otton all making plays, Tampa Bay was a force. But now, with Coen in Jacksonville with the Jaguars, it is passing game coordinator from 2024 in Josh Grizzard, who steps up into the big chair to be the leading voice in Mayfield's ear. As OTAs continue for the Buccaneers, Otton is confident that Grizzard can get the necessary improvement out of the unit. "We were a really good offense last year but we still have room to improve and I think he's going to do whatever it takes to get us there," Otton said. Nov 19, 2023; Santa Clara, California, USA; Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Cade Otton (center) runs after a catch against San Francisco 49ers safety Talanoa Hufanga (right) and linebacker Fred Warner (54) during the second quarter at Levi's Yamashita-Imagn Images Granted, improving on last season won't be an easy thing to accomplish with the Buccaneers averaging 29.5 points per game (ranked fourth), and averaging 146.5 rushing yards per game (ranked fifth), while Baker had a career year, throwing for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns. Advertisement If Grizzard can improve on that, Tampa Bay is in the thick of the Super Bowl race. As for Otton, he's coming off a career year, posting 600 yards and four touchdowns from 59 receptions as he stood up amid injuries on offense. He had a three-game stretch of 10+ targets and 77+ yards, along with three touchdowns, before reinforcements arrived. Now entering his fourth season, Otton will look to help Grizzard take what was already a strong offense last season to even greater heights in 2025. Buccaneers New OC Passing First Test in Unique Role

Buccaneers New OC Passing First Test in Unique Role originally appeared on Athlon Sports. For the third time in as many seasons, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a new offensive coordinator leading the way. Advertisement That isn't a bad thing. Tampa Bay has seen both Dave Canales and Liam Coen have found head coaching jobs across the league. In their absence, Josh Grizzard has been promoted to the top offensive role. Grizzard has plenty experience with the current team. He was the organization's passing game coordinator before being promoted to the top job. But ... At just 34 years old, he's one of the youngest coordinators in the game. Despite that perceived lack of experience, Grizzard has clearly gotten the offensive unit to respect him as a play-caller. In a way, he passed the first test needed to be earned for any young coach. Advertisement 'Last year, a big part of what he did was [he was] in charge of our third downs," starting tight end Cade Otton said during OTAs this week. "I just felt like every single week, we were really prepared for all the looks that we would get and just felt confident in our role and what we were going to do and obviously, it showed up in our third-down percentage and I think that's going to show up in the rest of our offense too." Tampa Bay already has one of the more lethal offenses in the league. With Baker Mayfield at quarterback, a collection of top wideouts, a star running back in Bucky Irving, and a good offensive line, the sky appears to the limit for their offense in 2025. Grizzard just can't be the one to hold everyone back. Bucs are not resting on their past success as they look ahead

Bucs are not resting on their past success as they look ahead The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the second-longest winning streak of division titles in the NFL (4) behind only the Kansas City Chiefs (9). The offense led the way in 2024, and they could very easily do it again in 2025, and why shouldn't they? They have promoted their coordinators to head coaching jobs in back-to-back years, and now they have promoted someone internally, Josh Grizzard, who could be next in line. If you ask Grizzard though, the team is not going to be resting on their past success. When he spoke to the media this week, he assured everyone that this team, especially the offense, is not looking back on past achievements. "You can see the hunger in guys to be able to push on into the playoffs and you can tell through the meeting rooms and the questions they are asking and the stuff we are getting done on the field – I would not want to compare to last year - It feels we are even a step further. . .They have been hungry. Nobody is resting on the statistical success that we had last year, because ultimately team-wise and in the playoffs is far from what we are trying to do." With so many players coming off career years, it is easy to project them having a setback in 2025. But when you look at it, several players have chips on their shoulders. Mike Evans wants to break a record; he is tied with Jerry Rice for most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons. Chris Godwin is coming off a major injury. Jalen McMillan needs to prove that Emeka Egbuka will not take his job. Oh, and Baker Mayfield still wants to win a Lombardi Trophy. This is a hungry Bucs offense we will be watching in 2025.
