Baker Mayfield Speaks Out on Differences of Buccaneers Play-Callers originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield has been in the NFL since 2018. During that time, he has had nine different offensive coordinators/play-callers to work with.

That includes stops with the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers, and Los Angeles Rams.
Eight coordinators in seven seasons. Insanity.
He is about to work with his ninth on that list. With Liam Coen taking the head coaching job in Jacksonville, Josh Grizzard has been promoted to play-caller and offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay.
With Grizzard having already been in the organization, there's reason to suspect there won't be many changes with Tampa Bay's offense. That may not be the case, though.
During OTAs, Mayfield detailed the differences between Grizzard and Coen as play-callers.
"Liam and I were close in L.A., and he was great for me last year," Mayfield said via CBS Sports reporter Pete Prisco. "Griz has his own tweaks on it. He's handled it well. Things aren't just going to transfer from one season to the next. Nothing we did last year matters. The foundation is there."

There's good reason to believe that Mayfield won't miss a beat with Grizzard. Tampa Bay's offense is among the most talented in the league, with a future Pro Football Hall of Famer in Mike Evans and a 1,000-yard rusher in Bucky Irving.
If Grizzard can keep Tampa Bay's offense humming, the Buccaneers could be set to win their fifth straight division title. And potentially show that while he hasn't had stability in his play-caller, Mayfield can work well in any system.

Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton Nears Return with Rehab Assignment

Yankees' Giancarlo Stanton Nears Return with Rehab Assignment originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The light is finally at the end of the tunnel for Yankees' slugger Giancarlo Stanton as news broke on Tuesday that the five-time All-Star is set to begin his rehab assignment with the Double-A Somerset Patriots. Advertisement Stanton, 35, has thus far missed the entirety of the Yankees' 2025 season while dealing with epicondylitis in both of his elbows, a condition that has made swinging a bat nearly impossible without enduring an inordinate amount of pain. New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Klement Neitzel-Imagn Images It is believed that Stanton was initially injured last season, but the condition did not fully manifest itself until the offseason, when he attempted to prepare for the 2025 campaign. While the Bombers have done well without Stanton in the lineup, leading MLB in home runs (105) and the American League in runs scored (349), there's no doubt that he'll be a welcome addition to a lineup that has not been as imposing as the organization had hoped. Advertisement New York has not yet managed to overcome a three-plus run deficit in any game this season, falling to 0-15 after their 11-7 loss to the Red Sox on Sunday night. That makes the Yankees one of only three teams in MLB to be winless in such situations this year, joining the Rangers (0-18) and Brewers (0-20) in the hapless department. (Stats courtesy of Katie Sharp on Twitter/X). Giancarlo Stanton's looming return should help the Yanks in that regard, as his presence alone will lengthen New York's lineup and provide better protection for those around him. While he may no longer be an MVP-caliber player like he was in 2017 with the Marlins, Stanton has still proven himself to be an asset when called upon in important situations, like the playoffs. In six trips to the postseason with New York, Stanton has a .265 BA, a .994 OPS and was named the 2024 ALCS MVP. Depending on how many rehab games he needs and assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks, an end-of-June return to The Majors could be in the cards for Stanton. Caitlin Clark Had No Words After WNBA's Big Announcement originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is still dealing with the left quadriceps strain she suffered on May 24 against the New York Liberty. Advertisement While she's set to miss her fifth straight game on Tuesday, she reminded everyone why she was among the favorites for WNBA MVP in the four games she did play, averaging 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 9.3 assists. Several hours before Tuesday night's game against the Atlanta Dream, the WNBA announced Clark's backcourt partner, Kelsey Mitchell, as the Eastern Conference Player of the Week. "For the first time this szn, Kelsey Mitchell is named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week," the league wrote on social media. Mitchell has stepped up, especially over the last two games with Clark out. In the Fever's 85–76 win over the Washington Mystics on June 3, she put up 24 points, two rebounds and three assists. Then, in Saturday's 79–52 win over the Chicago Sky, the former Ohio State Buckeye added 17 points, five rebounds and two assists. Bills Fighting So Minicamp Isn't Defined By Ugly James Cook Conflict

Bills Fighting So Minicamp Isn't Defined By Ugly James Cook Conflict originally appeared on Athlon Sports. So far this offseason, Buffalo Bills running back James Cook hasn't been present for OTAs as he searches for a new, long-term contract. Advertisement Set to play on the final year of his rookie deal, Cook reportedly wants a new contract at roughly $15 million APY, and it appears the Bills front office isn't too keen to part ways with that sort of money. Especially since they have already re-signed a host of key players, leaving just $1.6 million in cap space. Still, there are some who think the Bills will try to negotiate a deal with Cook, and despite the running back's absence, we are approaching a key marker in this saga. Bills minicamp. And for ESPN's Alaina Getzenberg, one thing to watch is whether Cook shows up or not. "The running back has not attended organized team activities (OTAs) as he seeks a contract extension, but the team has insisted that Cook will be playing for the Bills this season," Getzenberg writes. "Three other members of the Bills' 2022 draft class received extensions. Cook, 25, is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and though there have been discussions with his representation, the two sides didn't agree. Advertisement "Whether Cook comes to mandatory minicamp will be the next big step in how his situation progresses." Buffalo Bills running back James Cook.© Brian Fluharty-Imagn Images The fight here, for the organization, is to avoid letting this conflict define everything. Can they do so? We will get a good indication of where Cook stands in a couple of days, because if he isn't attending mandatory minicamp, then the franchise can fine him. Additionally, he can show up and do nothing, citing a bruised pinky finger as the reason, and avoid the fine. So there are multiple ways this could go, but for one of Buffalo's most prized offensive weapons, it isn't ideal for the franchise's Super Bowl hopes if a key piece is missing. Advertisement Could Buffalo win it without him? Possibly, but it would make the task harder, and what is also challenging is finding the necessary cap space for the Bills to get a deal done. Either way, this is getting ugly, and if James doesn't attend minicamp, it might get even uglier. Related: Could Bills Pull Off Trey Hendrickson Trade?
