Notre Dame sees another Indiana wide receiver Jerquaden Guilford commit to Ohio State

Recruitment still open 100% but it's some programs showing big time love 👀This top 10 and decision might have to come earlier than expected 😳 Unfortunately for Notre Dame, one of its recent teams that have given them problems, Ohio State, continues to do a great job recruiting to state of Indiana. The Buckeyes on Friday won out the recruitment for Jerquaden Guilford, the states top ranked wide receiver in the 2026 recruiting cycle according to the 247Sports Composite . A Fort Wayne native who never received an offer from the Irish, but had scholarships from Georgia, Indiana, Michigan and Ole Miss. You have to wonder why Notre Dame opted not to offer Guilford, as he's clearly good enough to play for them. Maybe it was a fit inside the program, as the Irish have passed on numerous in-state prospects who could have been difference makers. Over the last few cycles, the Buckeyes have won out with Mylan Graham, Ian Moore, Joshua Mickens, and Caden Curry, all top Indiana prospects. In the Irish's 2026 class, there are already five receiver commits in Kaydon Finley, Bubba Frazier, Devin Fitzgerald Brayden Robinson and Dylan Faison. This could very well have been a cause where the Irish liked who they already had in the fold, which would make perfect sense. There is an argument to be made that Guilford's size and skill set was similar enough to Fitzgerald's, which is why they passed. What should worry Notre Dame fans is the fact that 2027 in-state 5-star receiver Monshun Sales could be leaning away from the Irish as well. You can't let a player of his caliber leave the state, even if he is a national recruit. Notre Dame has offered, but Sales social media has been very pro-Ohio State. Hopefully the Irish can win out on this battle, as they continue to lose top in-state prospects to the Buckeyes. WATCH: Recruiting video of latest Ohio State 4-star receiver commit Jerquaden Guilford

In case you missed the news of the day, Ohio State landed one of its coveted wide receiver targets on Friday when 4-star 2026 wide receiver Jerquaden Guilford announced his verbal commitment to the Buckeyes over a hard-charging Ole Miss program. He makes the fifth receiver recruit for Brian Hartline and OSU, and one that seemed to be teetering on heading away from OSU after his announcement was postponed earlier in the month. Guilford was also a former Penn State commit back in December before opening things back up. We like to share a little film of each Ohio State football recruit by mining for it by checking out our friends at Hudl, and we think you'll like what you see with Guilford when you check out some of the highlights from his junior season. He looks smooth, seems to get separation easily at all three levels of the defense, and clearly has top-end breakaway speed and length that could result in significant development once he gets into a program that can utilize his gifts appropriately. Ohio State would seem to fit that bill. Guilford makes the 21st commitment in the 2026 class for the Buckeyes as they look to put the final touches on another top ten, potentially top five recruiting cycle. Boom! Ohio State lands verbal pledge from former Penn State wide receiver commit

Boom! After a series of recruiting losses, Ohio State was given some good news on Friday afternoon when four-star wide receiver Jerquaden Guilford gave his verbal pledge to wear the Scarlet and Gray. Guilford hails from Fort Wayne, Indiana, and is ranked as the No. 50 receiver in the nation according to 247Sports composite rankings. He picked the Buckeyes over Indiana, Ole' Miss, and Michigan. Though his ranking won't pop out to anyone, Guilford has the size that Brian Hartline likes, coming in at 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds with room to grow. Originally committed to Penn State, Guilford decommitted from the Nittany Lions in late February. He caught 35 passes for 556 yards and three touchdowns during his junior year at Northrop High School. During his live-streamed announcement, Guilford had this to say about joining OSU. "Everybody lies, but stats don't lie," Guilford said. "They prove every year that they're 'Wide Receiver U.' I'd love to be a part of it, and I am part of it." Guilford becomes the fifth receiver commit to join the Buckeyes in the 2026 class, joining Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, Jaeden Ricketts, Brock Boyd, and Chris Henry Jr. Ohio State now has 21 total commits in its 2026 class.

Major Ohio State receiver recruiting target sets new commitment date

Four-star 2026 wide receiver Jerquaden Guilford sure felt like a big-time Ohio State lean before his original commitment date of June 27, but things were thrown up in the air when he announced that he would be postponing things. That came on the heels of a reported big push by Ole Miss -- presumably some pretty significant NIL money that threw a wrench into Guilford becoming a Buckeye. It seems as though Guilford has everything figured out now because on Monday, he announced that his new commitment announcement will be this Friday, July 18. According to On3's Steve Wiltfong (subscription may be required), Guilford will announce his college choice between OSU, Ole Miss, Indiana, Michigan, and Tennessee at 5:30 p.m. Clearly, there has been a tug on some heartstrings vs. monetary opportunity, and if it's the former rather than the latter, you like Ohio State's chances to land the No. 68 receiver and 442nd overall prospect in the 2026 class (according to the 247Sports Composite rankings). If, however, money talks from the Rebels in a way we've seen things go down here recently, then maybe things go in another direction. I've kind of given up on trying to forecast these things in today's climate, but there are several crystal ball predictions flooding in for the Fort Wayne, Indiana native, so maybe the universe will restore itself on this one. We'll know Friday evening so stay tuned. Contact/Follow us @BuckeyesWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Ohio State news, notes and opinion. Bill sets rules on sales tax hike

GUILFORD COUNTY — State Sen. Phil Berger, R-Rockingham and Senate president pro tem, is pushing a bill through the N.C. General Assembly to set guidelines on how revenue from a quarter-cent sales tax increase could be spent if the referendum is approved by Guilford County voters in the November 2026 general election. Berger, whose district includes parts of Guilford County, said Thursday that the Senate approved an amended version of House Bill 305 that addresses the referendum issue. During its meeting June 18, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to yet again place the measure before county voters. Voters have rejected the quarter-cent sales tax increase six times in the past 20 years, most recently in the November 2024 general election. While the commissioners have said they want to use the additional revenue to support education, existing law doesn't restrict the use of funds collected for education or any particular purpose, Berger said in a statement. House Bill 305 would specify funds collected through a quarter-cent sales tax increase can only be used for classroom teacher salary supplements, fire protection equipment and services, Guilford Technical Community College and a small amount for municipalities, Berger said. A quarter-cent sales tax increase is expected to generate $25 million annually. 'Voters going to the polls in November 2026 need to know exactly what they're being asked to vote on,' Berger said. 'House Bill 305 now provides them with information so they can make an educated decision. I believe putting strict guardrails on the revenue collected gives taxpayers relevant information and guarantees the funds will be used as promised.' Democratic Guilford County Board of Commissioners Chairman Skip Alston said that he welcomes Berger's initiative. Having the quarter-cent sales increase revenue specified for certain uses will reassure voters and make them more likely to cast a ballot for the referendum, Alston told The High Point Enterprise. House Bill 305 now goes back to the House for a concurrence approval vote. Since the legislation is a local bill, it isn't subject to veto oversight by Democratic Gov. Josh Stein.
